Drugs is spelled wrong and the super loud music in the middle was not necessary.
Other than that it’s a good documentary. Thank you for bringing the issues to light. Be safe out there.

Living in Phoenix, it's sad as hell to realize that the broken lightbulbs guy was dead right. A lot of our homeless population would rather stay homeless than give up the drugs.

@@gokhank795 It's _extremely hard_ if not _outright impossible_ for the *overwhelming majority* of drug addicts to resolve their mental health issues without either first getting sober or simultaneously getting sober while getting proper psychiatric care. The two go hand-in-hand. Frankly, the overwhelming majority of addicts I've dealt with in life just didn't want to do the hard work involved, instead incrrectly believing they can rely on self-medicating with hard drugs to "manage their symptoms" because "those medications don't work" or they "don't like talking to counselors" or they simply don't want to participate in the available programs despite them having proven track records of working for people that are willing to do the hard work involved; and it is _very_ hard work. Many of these addicts symptoms reduce and/or resolve when they get sober _and stay sober._ Many of these people suffer from a form of mental illness called, wait for it... Substance Abuse Disorder; the first thing to do in that case, is get them sober. Imagine that... Substance Abuse _is_ *the* mental health issue.
Plus, Arizona's Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) might be a pain in the ass to navigate from time to time, but they are EXCELLENT about paying for mental health services and medication. The cost of treating someone's mental illness and keeping them sober is MUCH less expensive than letting these people destroy themselves and literally everything & everyone around them.
I say all of this as a former fentanyl/drug addict and sufferer of major depressive disorder, anhedonia, compulsive suicidal ideation, and a shit ton of physical health complications that very negatively affect my existence and comfort, whom has had friends die on the street of OD and even malnutrition, and others who are in prison because they chose drugs and "self medication" over getting FREE, professional help from "the man" and support from their extremely caring families.

I used to live out there in “the zone” or w/e. Everyone just refers to it as CAS, (Central Arizona Shelter Services), because that’s the homeless shelter all the camping takes place outside of. The reason people stay there is because it’s essentially the only place in the valley where homeless individuals have access to basic services, like meals, showers, toiletries, etc.
I can attest to how dangerous it is out there. Its completely lawless. Fortunately, my wife and I only ended up being homeless for about 4 months. Fortunately, through her planning and foresight, we were able to work our way out. And I’m happy to say we haven’t struggled financially in years, and our lives have taken a complete 180° turn. And it sure as hell was no thanks to the city of Phoenix.

I can tell you from experience that the majority of homeless people are scum. Bad people. There are a few that are decent and will work and try to better themselves. Mentally ill face different challenges, and it is not just our homeless sufferers either.
This country is self destructing. Very little moral, or sense of self worth, or belonging. There's a lot of unstable people out there that are very angry, and frustrated. "Normal" people too, but they aren't so likely to act on impulses.

I've worked for 2 different clinics in Phoenix and currently work as an armed patrol officer in all the bad places; the situation is such a double edged sword and there's no right answer that works for everyone. You can't treat the drug addicts the same way you treat the "unlucky ones". You can't treat the gangbangers like the drug addicts. You show kindness to the wolves and they mistake it for weakness and act accordingly. You show brutality and eventually you become like the ones you hate. However there IS a code they live by, that if you are fair and generous yet firm and diligent they won't harm you, but to be fair I wear body armor, a gun, and look like an ex-linebacker. I try to be fair every day but it does wear on your soul the trap they are in. So much help available but most are wolves in sheep's clothing.

I personally know a few of the people interviewed in there. This was the most legit piece of media that I have ever seen regarding the homeless in Phoenix. Absolutely great job. And what that one guy said about the broken light bulbs, that's exactly what it is. The mental health crisis in this state is OUTRAGEOUS. I have been to prison in Arizona four times and I can tell you that that's the rug that you get swept under if you are mentally ill and don't have a family to take care of you. We had a doting grandma who figured it was better to have her druggie grandson stay at her place & take his drugs than being out on the street. His meth lab blew up & started a fire that had an upstairs neighbor have to move out of her condo for weeks having the repair work done. He had all his teeth missing & found food in dumpsters. These are the people the bleeding hearts want to give new free housing to.

Interesting to me that so many homeless just totally EXPECT to be cared for, like children, everyone else is supposed to do everything while they loll around in addiction and point out to you what you should do next for them. Not understanding that so many of the people they are asking from, are barely keeping their own lives together!! They complain about rent....that they don't pay, not getting the fact that rent is high and huge and hard for us too!! That we struggle to buy groceries and do without things, and STILL drop a buck to them. I'm so tired of being seen as rich and comfy when it is not my reality at all. I face most of the same shit as they do, just choose to educate myself, be careful with any money I do have, use coupons and sales, and generally try to be self aware. But self awareness and self respect can't come to you in a government check or be provided to you by anyone but you!

Do you seriously think anyone chooses this life? Count yourself fortunate that you’ve never had to deal with mental illness or trauma alone with no one to turn to for help. The help these people need is either not available to them or they are incapable of seeking it out on their own. Drug addiction is what happens when they have to find some way to cope with their terrors or their trauma or their mental illness alone. You know there was this one homeless man that lived awhile back. He hung with the low people. The addicted, the sick, the troubled. No matter what their situation, he did not turn away or condemn a single one. He was ridiculed for who he hung out with. It angered the ‘normal’ people because he told them they should reach out and help their fellow citizens. That it was wrong to discard them like a piece of trash. They felt so self righteous when they killed him but then this happened…
Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,f you did it to me.’
41“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Keep your opinion to yourself about that b/c I don't want to hear it. I can care about what I want & I care about cats. Four of'em are in the room w/ me NOW

I live in Phoenix. I was homeless for 2 years when my landlord doubled my rent during the Covid BS. The City of Phoenix is the most useless municipality I've ever been to. The city employee's that are supposed to be working on the homeless have contempt for everyone that is homeless. I never expected much from Phoenix. It's blue. That's all I can say. It's blue...

Exactly. Vote blue and this seems to be the result. 😭 We had a very slim margin though in the last election I believe so maybe there’s hope and everyone will vote.

I lived in Tempe/Phoenix from 2004 to 2013; it was alright then. It was a beautiful place. I hate to hear of all of this homelessness down that way. Its still a beautiful place despite these issues.

I worked downtown Phoenix starting 1978, there were homeless people living on the streets back then, if you tried to help them, they would stalk you, screaming profanities, exposing themselves, it was terrifying having to walk to your parking garage after working overtime. I worked downtown for 15 years; it never got any better although the number of homeless were slightly less back then.

Sometimes, I want to tell these people that the government is not their “nanny” and that no one owes them anything. The government doesn’t have money. It only has the money that it gets from taxpayers. As a taxpayer, I pay plenty. No amount of money is ever enough.

Yeah, so let's just GIVE it to the thousands of illegal immigrants coming across the border & set them up for free & leave our own on the streets. I hope nobody in your family ever becomes homeless.

Jeez. Was there from 2009-2012 and felt pretty safe. Was downtown Phoenix or Tempe every weekend, went to all the metal shows and punk bars, etc. I know stuff happened, it was in the newspapers. However, I enjoyed my time there. I don’t think I could ever go back. Not to mention you can’t even buy a crack shack for less than 300K now. Sad, it was such a happening place with promise

if you wanted to help homeless , you'd be working with those who are not addicts to get them signed up for housing. . there are plenty of those that aren't addicts and want off the streets. Or ARE addicts and want treatment. .

Almost EVERY comment is about how great your Doc is and the amazing soundtrack…. How FKN sad- 1 out of 10 comments actually commented on the “Issue at Hand”.. That alone scares TF out of me! I live Close to that shit hole and no matter what TF the neighboring business or homeowners try to do to help anyone homeless they do not want to leave that lifestyle! But yeah the soundtrack is cool, good job- 👏

Like come on, what do you expect? It’s a well made piece of content, so people express that they recognize this
You think the problems shown in the video are going to be solved by random people that live in random places all over the world making TH-cam comments? We should be writing essays hypothesizing about tactics to battle these issues? Or reflecting on the societal issues that lead to it?
All that would be well and good, but just cause people aren’t writing novels about these problems doesn’t mean they don’t recognize the reality. But it doesn’t affect them directly, so they don’t have detailed opinions to express about the roots of the problem
