Dropped my bike at the bottom of our driveway, waiting for a bunch of school kids to walk past.....laying on my back looking at the sky, surrounded by smartass kid's slow clapping and filming me on their phone's. Best laugh I've had in 41 year's of riding.

Dude that is the worst, but keep practicing and next time you can go by them like a champ and they can see a person who they laughed at making them slow clap on account of how good you are now. Show them what persistence can do. School kids are mean as f. Lol
Lol...I rode America on my Harley in 2009 and then wiped out in Oct in my steep paved driveway on black ice...here in 🇨🇦 Canada. Gods way of keeping you humble!!!

This Jerry Paladino is certainly a great teacher. I'm highly appreciative for seeing his videos. I personally think that all riders regardless of experience should do a course at least every couple of years like this and watch these videos from time to time to become a safer & more skilled rider.
You and Donna are great teachers and demonstrators. You don't just talk the talk, you can do the walk too. Brilliant seeing all the various riders. So many times I've dropped my bike at slow speed. Doesn't bother me anymore, just learn to pick a bike up easily and then just try as hard as you can to learn from it.

I think the most powerful advice you gave here is these skills are perishable. There is a reason professionals practice all the time.
Hi Jerry from Brisbane Australia. I am 76 yo and I have a mate the same age who has been riding years longer than me. I watch your videos but more importantly practice what you teach. My mate hates it when I miss a turn (he likes me to lead). He has to "duck walk" his bike to do a U turn.
I have taken him many times to a vacant parking lot, to try and help him develop some level of skill. He has been riding over 20 years. About the smallest circle he can do is about 50 feet, no exaggeration.
He won't even try to improve. He will just sit there on his bike and watch me practice tight turns and emergency braking. It annoys the hell out of me.
The moral of this story is " you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink"

Stratnut2008. I had a Suzuki Boulevard C50 for two years and two years ago I traded it in for a new Suzuki V Strom 650 XT. I have done 19,000 km on the Strom and I love it. It is a fairly tall bike, very easy to ride, reliable, has traction control and ABS brakes which the Boulevard did not have.
I'm amazed that he has made it 20 years. How many times has he crashed? I would be nervous to ride with someone like that.
Dan Phillips , He has not had any serious crashes, however he has hurt himself a number of times by dropping his bike. At least I have taught him to put his left foot down before he has stopped. He used to put his foot down just after he stopped, and that lead to drops.
I also convinced him to buy a Honda 500 CBX. He is safer on that and he likes it.

The video was really helpful. It helps me realize how much the turn of the head impacts the turn of the bike. I noticed the more severe the turn the deeper the head turn. Keep the videos coming.

Great video, there is so much I should be practicing after watching this. I ride a Vulcan Nomad among other sports bikes, and every time I ride the big Nomad it’s like hopping on it for the first time, so much confidence and skill that I must bring to the forefront, at times it’s like the bike is fighting against me but in actually fact I have not nailed the basics that this video covers. Thanks for reassuring riders like myself that any fear can be overcome with the right skills practice and advice. ✌️

I remember my first day riding, not knowing these slow speed techniques, it was down right terrifying trying to make slow, tight turns on a public roadway. Ever since I started using the friction zone and rear brake, it's like a light bulb went on! Thanks alot Jerry!

Wow. I’ve been riding for two years now. In mfs class they never thought us about using the rear brakes to maneuver, however few months ago after I purchased my big bike found it a little harder to turn and maneuver. I practiced and try to find helpful techniques. Outta the blue I started using the rear brake and it helped a lot taking turns. Then I see in this Channel using the rear brake is a thing! Damn

I'm not a rider at all, but I sure do like watching your videos! Not only are the informative(in case I ever did need to get on a motorcycle!), but entertaining as well! I'm sure the information contained in your videos has helped more than one rider avoid disaster and/or catastrophe! More likely dozens, if not hundreds, of riders! You should be commended and feel proud of that! Cheers!
these instructions are like pure gold. I am still a new rider learning to ride. I have learned an astonishing amount of motorcycle skills in relation to time invested just listening to Jerry and then practicing with my motorcycle.
I had an Instructor tell me about dipping the bike side to side so i could improve my slow riding technique and this helped me so much as i ride a Dual sports bike (road-trail) i like to ride a few bush trails on the weekend, now i feel more comfortable riding fast threw the trails as i can stop fast if i need to doge something quickly.
so it pays to listen when you're being taught.
"Your brain tells you all the wrong things" is also known as "paralysis by analysis". Don't overthing this! Watch without thinking and practice, practice, practice, to develop "muscle memory" and reflex without thinking.
In snow skiing your body tells you to lean back when facing downhill. This will get you injured or killed. You have to lean forward and be aggressive. The brain fights this and instinctively, you go from the "fight" mode to "flight" mode. Best way to learn is to follow somebody at the correct speed and imitate their moves WITHOUT thinking. Your brain will lie to you.

Thanks Jerry for these videos & CD's (I have one) I just' got my Yamaha Venture running, took it for a short test ride and I feel so much more confident in a simple slow speed maneuver, just looping around to back my bike into my parking place at my apt. I am really looking forward to more practice when weather warms up. Well, that & when the Secretary Of State offices open again so I can get tabs..... :(

@@motorman857 I did have a lot of fun and realized some things very quickly. For one, how good I am at the friction zone vs how good I thought I was are two very different things. Thanks to your techniques, I am already getting better but I still need practice.

I'm 41 and been riding 10+ years and only took the BRC-1 course. I NEED to take the BRC-2! I'm a pretty good rider in general but I know there are some improvements I could make with a class like this. Plus who wouldn't want that extra discount on your insurance? Love the videos!

I remember back in 70's when my dad was a bike mechanic, some guy brought in a raked out chopper that was just crazy long, looked like you could barely do a u-turn with it on a divided 4-lane highway. I wonder if any old school bikes like that could stand a chance on a course like yours.

I think buying the videos that Jerry has on his website, and practicing BEFORE you take the live training, would make the live training go much better.
I almost took the test on mine but decided to take the test thru abate I still make mistakes from time to time but getn better u turns r still a little hard for me especially sharp turns
When I did my Advanced class, they put a cone right in the middle of the Iron Cross and that gave us 2 ways of running that setup. Either like they do here or weaving around the middle cone for each leg. It was pretty fun. The one thing that class taught me was to use the rear brake (aka "drag braking") and give it some gas and then use the clutch to control the speed. It took me a while to get the muscle memory, but man, is it ever effective.

Great video as usual. Like you said, these slow speed skills are perishable. I can do a U turn and slow speed swerves and hi speed and such. But not as good if I took your class and practiced two or three times a week. I know that I can improve and I have been riding for ten years, never took a class. I still consider myself a rookie, even though I ride in all weather and lighting conditions. I watched your videos on TH-cam and practiced on my bike for 30 days straight, two hours before and two hours after work everyday. When I got my license after that thirty days, I let my slow speed skills lapse. I would like to call you sometime and see if you do courses near Atlanta, Ga. if not, I will make the trip down to you hopefully this year. I am a big fan and would like to meet you and your wife.

Literally everyone drops their motorcycle at some point. Could be while wheeling it out of the garage, could be at a stoplight. EVERY RIDER WILL DROP A MOTORCYCLE.
Yeah.. I dropped my bike for the first time a few days ago. Just riding it backwards down my driveway in neutral to get it to the street, and my pant leg got snagged on the wear peg and it plopped over on my leg on the incline of the driveway..that was a pain in the ass to tip up, wheels at the high end and seat towards the low end of the driveway. Least nobody saw it happen
I taught several people how to ride throughout my 45 years of riding and I told them all , that it is very important to be able to lift EITHER leg , high enough to clear the gas tank so if ( when ) you drop or slide your bike down , you get your leg out from under the bike before it hits the ground !
Never trust crash bars to save your leg .
Always tell friends and people I meet. There are two types of riders, those who have been down and those who are going down. You'll always be in one of the two categories. It happens to us all, unfortunately... ride safe and God Speed.

Some people hate to see others learning and improving their riding skills. It makes them realize how bad their skills are but worse, they know they'll never seek any training because they are lazy.
Or it could be the click bait title. What were the three techniques? Look where you're going. Ok I get that. Have some speed. Ok. Brake? When and how much? That's something I don't recall from my class but I may have just missed it. I could use some specifics on that. It's fine on a closed circuit to say don't straighten between turns but I'm not liable to have that in real life. Some specifics on that wouldn't have been out of line either.

Well, many decades ago I was riding my Yamaha trail bike after getting a new rear tire fitted. I did U turn and ended standing beside the bike as the back tire slid out from under me. Yeap, always remeber that new tires can be slippy for the first few miles.

Coming from the off road and sport bike world, I’m
Uncomfortable with slow Speed maneuvering on a full dressed bike . The weight gets in my head , and I know it’s no different . Just keep with the technique !
I find that when you make a tight turn, it is best to pull the clutch and keep the engine RPM up. Regulate your power to the ground by modulating clutch slip. This way you have an unlimited amount of power available, and are not depending on the ability of your engine to come off idle with enough torque to bring your bike up. I always drag BOTH brakes. Two fingers on the front brake, while griping/turning my throttle with the 2 outer fingers. Same with the clutch. This way I have a tight grip on the bars with both hands, yet have full control over the levers.
Second trick is to sit/hang off the bike in the opposite way of the turn. This leans the bike over further, which makes it turn tighter. From a riding position, I can turn tighter than you can turn the bike with the bars full lock. With a Goldwing, I can easily make a U-turn in less than the width of 2 parking spots.

@@BigBlok502 I'm an expert rider. Not an expert editor but, I'm getting better. The video's I charge for, are all filmed and edited professionally. Editing video is much more difficult than learning riding skills.

I live in California and I saw some one today on a sportster with ape hangers way higher then his shoulda in calabasas
A buddy and I rented Road Kings at Eagle Riders, San Francisco. I asked my buddy if he'd ever ridden a Harley, and he said "nah, but i've been riding motorcycles forever. They're all the same". So, after he finished up his paperwork and loaded himself and his girlfriend on the bike, it was pretty darned funny to watch him drop the bike and his girlfriend before he even left the parking lot!
Very interesting. I never went to motorcycle school. In 1978 that class came automatically with the driving class. I thought maybe I should go to school, just for technics but someone told me that if I go and fail, I will loose my licence. Don’t know if it’s true but to me, it has no sens because this class is acquired and can’t loose it unless a trafic violation. I forgot to mention that I’m living in Qc, Canada
