I love your underwater videos, they are very informative. Thanks for putting this together. I did some testing in my sink. A standard Pompano float will not hold a hook and shrimp off the bottom. It took three large Pompano floats to hold the bait off the bottom. Plan B I used a small pan fish bobber about 2 inches long and it worked fine. This may be why I rarely catch Pompano.

Tony, l appreciate the huge effort making this video.lt is amazing, full of valuable information.
Everybody can get his own conclusions how to rig for the right occasion.
Never forget as water conditions change, everything else changes too.
In more agitated waters your first rig will not be sleeping on the floor and will be flaming like a flag (and will catch).
This video is a wonderful lesson in the book of fishing.
    Great job Tony!
    You did it again.
    Congratulations!

    • @FishGum

The thing I am struggling with is the droppers need to be at varying heights in order to present baits in different areas of the water column.

Well, I was actually able to order some of your FISH GUM today. I've enjoyed using Fish Bites so it will be fun to compare. Best of all it's somethingi else cool for Surf Fishing.

What was your thoughts on using fish gum compared to fish bites?

It is insane to me how much life these videos show us and in water that only appears to be 3-5 feet deep . hope to see more after the break God bless and as always much luck from the TX Gulf Coast .👍

I’m still filming but no editing or uploading for awhile. It’ll be really cool to see what we got on film.

Great job brother. Trying to find these rigs, Wal-Mart doesn't seem to have them. Probably have to go to the bait and tackle.

Unique video. I've seen a lot of underwater camera footage on already hooked fish, as they near the boat. But don't remember seeing any footage of the rig as it awaits strikes. Was this shot in the Florida panhandle? Also, do you think this is a typical amount of fish activity on the beaches you fish? If so, there are a lot more fish out there than I was assuming there were. I've fished for whiting quite a bit over the years and always assumed they were much more aggressive and than in your video. But your video suggests there need to be a lot of fish around to even get one or two fish interested in the bait on your rig. Love to hear your thoughts. Also would love to see some similar videos involving any of the following: seatrout, redfish, snook, sheepshead, flounder, black drum, and yes, even saltwater catfish. Keep the videos coming.

I’m working on other videos for other species! The amount of fish in the water waxes and wanes. We’ve had what’s called June Grass come in pretty heavy in Navarre Beach and the surf was almost a ghost town! The video was shot in Navarre which is on the panhandle. I will be heavily integrating more underwater vids and I think stationary fishing with set rigs gives us the best presentation of what is happening from fish interest to strike. Catfish are like a zombie herd if they are small and are present in the water column from top to bottom.

Ya these vids are just great. Here is one thing I don't get. You always catch the pomp higher up but they are always full of coquina shell are they getting THOSE higher up in the water column ?

    • @FishGum
      @FishGum  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the travel higher in the water column and have a wider field of vision to see the ocean floor. Maybe they root for clams when it’s calm and when it’s rough the clams are stirred up and getting caught in rips and currents at varying levels of the water column.

If you don't mind sharing, what camera were you using. From my research Olymbros is the most affordable but Water Wolves and GoFish cams seem to be of higher quality. I am about to move to Panama (Pacific coast near Coronado) and have heard mixed stories about surf fishing. A camera would allow me to see for myself.
