While attending a funeral a while back a pastor had us reflect a the tombstone. He said that in between your DOB and DOD is a dash or hyphen, a very small line to fit in whatever you can call a life. Nobody knows how short of a line there will be, so you have to make the most of each opportunity. Make those plans a reality EJ! To start - with Babbel - go to French and Italian restaurants and practice by ordering new and interesting menu offerings by speaking the language. Whatever you decide to do, invest in those experiences before the dash ends at that last appointment date.
Yes to all of this! Get the passport and then go to Jamaica. Learn how to swim, eat all of the food. As a black woman, I moved overseas in my 20s and it was life changing. The world is so big and vast and our little towns and communities keep us in a bubble. Break that bubble ladies and go explore. Also dating overseas was hands down better than any dating I've done here in the states.
I joined the military right out of High School and had the chance to travel all over the World. I have lived in several States and now I can't live without traveling and experiencing different cultures. What you said was so true. We are blessed to have been able to get out of our communities at such a young age.
At my big age of 40, I'm starting roller skating lessons in 2 weeks!! I'm excited. I'm from the country and my parents weren't about to be driving me 30 minutes one way to nobody's roller rink. Time flew by and I never really learned to skate. Now, I can afford my own skates, I live near several rinks, and I want to have fun exercising, why not try it now 🤷🏾♀️? Y'all pray I don't break anything.
I would love to travel more. I had 2 goals for myself (get my drivers license n get my high school diploma) before I turned 50…(turning 50 in November) I thankfully have accomplished both of them successfully. Now I’m ready to hit the islands lol
EJ, get you a passport ASAP and go, see, do! I live for travel. I am a teacher and every summer I am out the door! But be smart- traveling as a black woman hits a bit differently.
When I tell you this video hit my spirit!! 😭😭😭 I don't have a passport, don't know how to swim, never had a professional massage...ugh. 🥺 I truly need to have more experiences, especially after these past two years. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this video. ♥️ I don't know if this was a sign but I'm taking it as such. 🙏🏾
For me it's getting my first driver's license at the ripe old age of 31. I'm not even trying to get a car anytime soon but it's an important skill to have.
Same here. Got my license at 33 at the end of 2020 because I got married and moved to a bigger city. I had to gone head and launch out and it feels amazing. 😁
I'm currently in Ghana for the next few weeks, just posted up on the motherland...I work remotely and love to travel. And since home is where the wifi is, I just go places even when not on 'vacation'. I love that you're opening up this convo.
Ghana is on my list of places to go next!!! I truly wished when I was a remote employee before the "Rona" I had traveled more internationally. Enjoy and live it up!!!
I feel you, EJ. I am tired of existing I want to live. Baby steps like trying something different or exploring new places (e.g., local, domestic, or international). Currently, I am learning Italian with the hopes of visiting or living there for a season. And don't wait for your friends to travel, step out on faith and do some solo travel. Tfs
First off…yes vocals flowing like water. I hear you. Secondly that ad transition was so smooth. This video spoke to me in so many ways. I was just thinking about how I am always letting my job consume me and I really am out here not living life at all. I just hope that one day I get to the point where I am not taking life for granted and actually experiencing it
Start today! You will always have a job, but you'll never be this age again. Even if you never leave this country, there is so much to see: from NY to Hawaii, Alaska to Florida and everything in between. Places like Puerto Rico can feel like another country and you don't even need a passport to go there.
Live your life hun, jobs come and go but we only get one life. Travel and make great memories. There is way more to life then just work work work. Live, give, and show love ❤
In 2019 I went to Paris, London and Versailles. My first time ever out of the country. All I can say is “WoW!” The pages of the encyclopedia, National Geographic and travel magazines I was physically there. It was a dream come true. The other thing is and I mean this with all my heart. If you are going to go with some people VET THEM LIKE LIKE THE FBI! Do not go with people who are not open minded or have an entitlement issue. You are there to enjoy the people and “their” country. EJ go do you and “in joy” yourself❤️
I just LOVE you! Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t be afraid to honor YOU. Your family will be inspired by it. God has MORE for you !! #IntentionalLivingIsKey♥️🥰🙏🏽
I’ve been thinking about learning sign language for a while now. I’m so country that moving from the Sip to Atlanta was a culture shock 😂. I’ve been to the islands several times but haven’t been on a cruise. Agree, anything that makes life easier is worth the money.
My single dad told us "Yall better live. Don't none of yall need no spouse and kids at 22. Eat different foods. See different cultures. Learn something else on the menu besides what you grew up on." It was four of us and we listened. I learned so much about myself as I traveled and had a carefree period. I got my masters, I spent time with different cultures, I lived my life and it made me a better wife and mother. That was my journey. I encourage everyone to do what works for them but I enjoyed every bit of freedom before settling down.
I’ve never really traveled, even throughout just the US. I want to go places, get on an airplane, go to the mountains, go to the beach, go to historical parks and landmarks. I crave it.
After putting it off my whole life by not doing anything about it, this Florida native finally took a day off to see a horse up close in person and I'm going to start familiarizing myself with them and riding! Just the seeing one for the first time was so cool and therapeutic! I'm very glad I did that for myself!
You know what the sad part is EJ? I've done many of the things you say you haven't done and I STILL feel.like have not accomplished much or lived life. Social media had me feeling like I just ain't never been nowhere or done nothing. I gotta do better appreciating the experiences I have had and just enjoy what comes next.
I always order stuff at the restaurants that I have either never tried or do not want to prepare. When I travel I try to eat at the local places and my plan is to retire to Portugal so I do use Babbel and Duolingo to practice. Good for you EJ, Mark Twain said "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness."
As someone who JUST learned how to swim, it’s so worth it and freeing. Girl, i learn how to float on my back and ain’t been the same since! Get into it.❤️

This video resonates with me so heavily, EJ! Just like you, I haven’t traveled much (foreign & domestic), or what I consider really living and I’m 40 years old. I made this same goal for myself to obtain a passport and start doing the things I’ve longed to do but never really had the financial freedom to do.
If you book in advance, especially during the "shoulder season" (after school starts and before the holidays) you'll be shocked at how affordable travel can be, especially if you have a good travel agent.
@@KV-mz8ro 💯💯💯 that's the coolest thing about cruises, you have a payment schedule, so even if the price seems high, it can be broken up over time to make it affordable!

Yes EJ, travel and explore the world. Also continue to encourage others to live. One thing the last two years has shown, is never take life for granted. Within a couple of seconds the whole world can change and has changed.
My mom hired a cleaning service earlier this year and we're using them again now. I think that it is the most beneficial thing that you can ever do. When I get my own place one of these days it will most definitely be a part of my budget. I think that people make it seem like it's a bad thing to admit that hey you're not the tidiest person. You may need a little help there's nothing wrong with that
Hey EJ, if you want to have a Caribbean vacation experience without needing a passport; try the United States Virgin Islands 🇻🇮. St. Croix has some family friendly options but also couple friendly options too. I am making an effort to travel more and I went to St. Croix last month and was pleasantly surprised by the good time I had.
Hi EJ, I love traveling and plan on doing more. I’m an introvert and very risk adverse but I want to be more intentional about taking more healthy risks. What I mean by that is not allowing my fear of doing certain things keep me from living a full life.
Last year I met a woman who lived in rural Indiana. She lived in the same town her entire life. She worked at the local bank, retired at the local bank, raised her children and her grandchildren were all within 20 to 30 miles of her birthplace. Maybe even less. I believe this world is big enough for people who want to live that kind of life and those of us want to be cosmopolitan.
My mantra all 2022 has been to try new things. I started getting facials once a month, I got my passport, headed on a cruise in less than a week, Vegas in August to see Silk Sonic, big birthday bash and photo shoot for my 40th in October. I’m doing all of things. My pockets are lil light tho 🤕 But I’m so worth it!
Good on you! I finally took a trip to NYC after wanting to for years and it felt like I was truly living again! I underestimated how much not traveling for 2 years would made me feel so unfulfilled and monotonous & taking a trip was just the antidote 😌
Girl, I tell anyone a vacation is going somewhere that you don’t know anyone😂 visiting family in different cities and states don’t count! I love travel, passport expiring next year definitely need to renew. I’m happy you got that taste and want to explore more.
My 17-year old just returned from 7 weeks in France for a language immersion study abroad. That child’s nickname is The Genius and has been since he started talking…at 6 months (but only to family because he doesn’t like peopling🙄🤣). We were unable to speak to him via phone for the entire time he was in the program and he was able to email 1-2 times a week. I’m telling you those weeks were so terrible for me because he’s the child I worry about the most because he has Autism and struggles with being outside of his comfort zone. I was shocked that he applied for acceptance to the program but am so glad he did and completed it. I picked him up at the airport and he has yet to speak English when we speak to him. 😩
I am 53 and I've been learning Spanish for over a year and returned to the saxophone. I plan to learn other languages and instruments as well. I've also been bitten by the travel bug and kicked it off with a weekend trip to Houston, Texas last weekend. I had an amazing time!!! So, I'm planning to travel more in the states as well as to foreign countries. I've been talking about traveling outside of the US for a couple years. Now it's time to just start making plans. Thank you for the encouragement!❤️
I started a garden a few years ago, every year I add something new, I also grow for other people, tomatoes and cucumbers I don't eat, but I bless someone that does. Blessings to you 🙏
Me, too. All I do is work, work and work! I’m almost 50 with no passport and have not been on a vacation in 11 years. This inspired me that I need to make changes ASAP! Thanks for the words of inspiration. I needed this!
Girl, you are speaking my language (no pun intended). I need to get back to this, and thrive! Travel is on my list and I've already started with the taking better care of me goal. 💕
I’m gearing up to take my first ever plane ride. I have been blessed to have traveled all over the US from childhood summer trips to adulthood family reunions. So my husband said it’s time to go outside the US. We are preparing to get our passports and booking our first cruise for next year…wish us luck 😍😍😍

I've traveled before I turned 30. But at 29 I made the decision to go on at least one out of country trip for my bday. I have to say, glady, i have not been in the US on my bday for the last 10 years and my original plan of one international trip a year has turned into at least 3 a years. I need the other 2 now to decompress. I've fallen off from the regular things that most are content with when I'm at home & prepare for the next trip. I like to try local dishes. Shark is delicious BTW. I will say I do NOT wait on folks to travel. I'll go solo because I feel like I'd never go anywhere waiting on folks. It's not for everyone but it does work for me (yes I'm a woman). Peace & sanity even on vacay!
Please get a passport and travel, it’s the best thing to experience all avenues of life. I’m truly sitting here thanking god for my travels and privileges. SEE THAT WORLD. Peace from the UK EJ x
I, briefly, lived in another country as a child (thank you US Army) and had the opportunity to take a week long class trip to Rome. I already had a love of ancient history, but to see all these locations with my own eyes.....an experience I will never forget! You will LOVE Italy! I want to travel to my heart's content, at this point of my life.
I've traveled quite a bit, but there are so many more places that I want to travel to. Covid slowed my roll, but praise God, I'm back to traveling now. To me, there's nothing like it. I've instilled the traveling bug in my daughter and I love that she and her friends are not putting their lives on hold waiting for the perfect paying job or man to come along. Life is short and God wants us to enjoy it and Him to our fullest!
U are my lil sis in my head! Your videos are so relatable, down to earth and accurate! The purchasing of swim suits and not ONE of them has touched a pool is me, me, me!! I know HOW to swim (enough to save my own life, but mess around and try to drown round me...). 😳🥺😕
The last year of undergrad our school changed food service providers. The headchef was a black woman. She kept changing the menu and offering different things and many of the students didn’t want to try them. (I forgot to mention this was an HBCU) One day she had some kind of salad with fruit in it and you were supposed to put a savory dressing on it. I had never eaten anything like that and she said just try it and so I had her make me the salad, I slapped some ranch on it and I took a bite. I liked it. I ran back in there to tell her that it was good and she proceeded to tell me that there were so many different culinary options out there and yet Black people, often times, don’t try it. She kept saying in a pleading tone “Just try it. Just try it“. Ever since then I have made it my mission to try something different especially when I go out to eat. It just might be an appetizer. It might be a new dressing. It might be a beverage, or an entirely new dish but for the past almost 20 years I have been trying something different and really enjoying it. I do not have a passport either but I do plan on getting one at some point. Right now we have other financial goals that I want to get checked off before I really put a focus on traveling. But I’m glad you’ve gotten a chance to get out and I’m glad that you want to see more. Hopefully our support can make that happen. #INeedMyMissJackieT-shirt. And I’m with you on that smaller communities and less traffic. Rush hour traffic is unnecessary.

Yes yes yes my family can’t understand why I love my overseas life
At my big age of 40, I'm starting roller skating lessons in 2 weeks!!
Arkansas girl here and I get you. I hope this outlook on new experiences becomes a part of your content.
Same
I am born raised and living fabulously in Arkansas
I would love to travel more. I had 2 goals for myself (get my drivers license n get my high school diploma) before I turned 50…(turning 50 in November) I thankfully have accomplished both of them successfully. Now I’m ready to hit the islands lol
Congratulations to you on both of these!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Proud of you. Keep up the good work 😉
Congrats! God speed and continued success with your endeavors!
Congratulations! So proud of you.
Congratulations Ms Jay! Now treat yourself to a well deserved vacation!
EJ, get you a passport ASAP and go, see, do! I live for travel. I am a teacher and every summer I am out the door! But be smart- traveling as a black woman hits a bit differently.
That’s awesome! Do you make travel content?!
Yes, it does! Dubai was an EYE OPENER!

Me too sis! I want to Live Life instead of just existing 😉👍🏾👏🏾
It was a sign, she's speaking to your heart. You need a respite from everyday life and a new place, even in the same state can do that for you.
For me it's getting my first driver's license at the ripe old age of 31. I'm not even trying to get a car anytime soon but it's an important skill to have.
I got my licence in my 30's as well... Don't look back.. rent cars, buy a car whatever.. but the freedom & flexibility of being MOBILE is amazing.
Sis I’m so there with you I got my license at 23 never really drove and moved to NYC and at 31 too finally feel comfortable enough to rent cars!!
Same here. Got my license at 33 at the end of 2020 because I got married and moved to a bigger city. I had to gone head and launch out and it feels amazing. 😁
Y'all I finally have my license! Passed road test on the first try! 😁
I'm currently in Ghana for the next few weeks, just posted up on the motherland...I work remotely and love to travel. And since home is where the wifi is, I just go places even when not on 'vacation'. I love that you're opening up this convo.
Oh my goodness, that's where I want to live for at least a year🙌🏾
Ghana is on my list of places to go next!!! I truly wished when I was a remote employee before the "Rona" I had traveled more internationally. Enjoy and live it up!!!
I can't wait to visit Ghana!
That's where I plan to travel, Lord willing, next year. Enjoy!!
The gelato in Italy will have you looking down your nose at ice cream like "you peasant" 😂 it's really about that life!!!
😂😂
😂
I feel you, EJ. I am tired of existing I want to live. Baby steps like trying something different or exploring new places (e.g., local, domestic, or international). Currently, I am learning Italian with the hopes of visiting or living there for a season. And don't wait for your friends to travel, step out on faith and do some solo travel. Tfs
Sending hugs ❤I am very excited to put this plan in action and this is confirmation to many of us Enjoy 👑💜🌞
Girl somebody said I know I wasn't put on this earth to work, go grocery shopping, and yell at kids and baby i felt that in my spirit
Just do it. Take a leap of faith.
Second swim lesson today 40+ yo💕💕just do it! Stay open to unlocking new levels in our lives😍 we're Unstoppable .
The best to ever do it! Smooth transition to Babbel.
The Missy part 😂🤣😂🤣 was HILARIOUS!!! She Nailed It 👍🏾
I just LOVE you!

Living in Atlanta, the whole WORLD 🌎 is your backyard! Get down to the airport and GO!

You go girl! Think it and do it. We limit ourselves with our thoughts (or lack of thoughts).

EJ, while getting your passport, get Global Entry! Happy travels!
And CLEAR!!!
Because baby I will NOT wait for you at TSA or in that customs line upon return. See you on the other side sis!!! LOL

Absolutely! It's a must have.
@@thelegacydoctor Does Global Entry cost extra? My husband and I need passports.
Same. I'm baffled by folks who eat the same thing at the same place. What's the point of going out to eat if yr not gonna try something out the norm.
I love you EJ. Treat yourself. From one Arkansas girl to another.
You are me, no passport, never been on a cruise, never been outside of the US, but that's all about to change very soon 🙌🏽
As someone who JUST learned how to swim, it’s so worth it and freeing. Girl, i learn how to float on my back and ain’t been the same since! Get into it.❤️

Congratulations EJ. You'll love traveling and meeting new people. 😊
I rode in my first Uber last month…with other people of course, cuz who was gonna do it by herself?! Not me! 😅 I have also never been to an island, or even a beach for that matter.

EJ you don’t need friends to go to the Caribbean. I go all by myself and I love it!!!! I also go on trips with friends but my vacation, vacation is solo!
Safe exploration and travels!
Hi EJ, I love traveling and plan on doing more. I’m an introvert and very risk adverse but I want to be more intentional about taking more healthy risks. What I mean by that is not allowing my fear of doing certain things keep me from living a full life.
Love this!
Amen sister! Live life NOW!!!
Yes you are!
Love the nod to Missy Elliot’s “I Can’t Stand the Rain!” 🎶Beep Beep, who’s got the keys to my Jeep? Vrooooom 🎶 🤗

You're never too old to be better than you already are!.
@ejspeaks, These past few years I have definitely been saying “yes” more often and it’s been great! I feel less alone and happy. 🤗
You deserve to live. As much as you give out with your personality, God is shining down on you!
Please get a passport and travel, it’s the best thing to experience all avenues of life. I’m truly sitting here thanking god for my travels and privileges. SEE THAT WORLD. Peace from the UK EJ x
Yes! I feel that in my spirit, I want to eat more. Cause watching it on the travel channel just isn't the same.
EJ, would you please get out of my journal. For that girls' trip, you should host one for your online crew (US). Just a thought!
Little Rock, AR here but I love to travel and experience new things.
