Dripping in diamonds, atop the Eiffel Tower, like a conquering hero, coming back from 4 years of no singing, health issues, on a rainy night in Paris, the City of Love, a song about love, as the Olympic flame rises. This was an Olympic level performance.

I was so happy to see her yesterday. She was fabulous! I cried when watching her documentary. She’s going through so much. It’s on Prime Video in the US. It’s very hard to watch. I watched the Olympic opening show (retired without a lot to do 😂) and it rained almost the entire time. I’m sure it was miserable weather for the spectators.

This song by Piaf is part of the musical heritage of my country and Céline's interpretation was simply magnificent. I think the emotion has crossed languages and cultures around the world, a song written by a woman (Piaf) for the man she loved (Cerdan) and who died shortly after; Céline's story ties in with Piaf's story (the death of the loved one) which makes the meaning and interpretation of this song even stronger and I admit it made me cry. Merci Céline.

Andrea Bocelli is an incredible Italian singer. He he blind. He was mostly blind at birth but at age 12 he got hit in the eye with a soccer ball (or football for brits) which caused him to go completely blind. He plays the piano, plays chess, rides horses, and can sing/talk in several languages (including English and Italian). Check out more of Andrea after his and Celine’s duet too.

Celine Dion was the only shining moment for me. Much of the ceremony to me was disgusting. However Celine is pure passion and soul. This performance is extraordinary seeing what she has been living through of late. I sat there and just cried....So looked so beautiful and vocally sublime. I keep watching this again and again lol. The Tragic Love Story of Édith Piaf and Marcel Cerdan
Édith Piaf, the famous French singer, had a passionate and tragic love affair with Marcel Cerdan, a world-renowned French boxer. Their romance began in 1948 and quickly became the talk of Paris. Piaf and Cerdan were both at the height of their careers-Piaf was already a legendary singer known for her emotional performances, while Cerdan was a boxing champion, celebrated as one of the greatest in his sport.
Their love was intense but complicated. Piaf was deeply in love with Cerdan, often expressing her emotions through her music, including in songs like "L'Hymne à l'Amour." However, their relationship was not without challenges. Cerdan was already married and had children, which added a layer of complexity and difficulty to their love affair.
The tragedy struck on October 28, 1949, when Marcel Cerdan was on his way to New York to see Piaf. He had taken a flight at her request, even though he initially intended to travel by boat. The plane, an Air France Lockheed Constellation, crashed in the Azores, killing everyone on board. The news of his death devastated Piaf. She was heartbroken and struggled to cope with the loss of her great love.
Piaf's grief was profound, and she channeled her sorrow into her music, making her performances even more poignant and emotional. "L'Hymne à l'Amour," which she had written for Cerdan, became a tribute to him after his death. Piaf never fully recovered from this tragedy, and it marked her life and music forever. Her love for Cerdan remained one of the defining aspects of her life, illustrating the deep connection between her personal experiences and her art.
