🥱 ... Yikes, that was brutal (the games, not the vid). I'm older than you fellas and even I would be bummed if I was stuck with pre 2000 games. Seeing all those old games made me appreciate the development and evolution of board games post 2000.
There is certainly development in the hobby worth being thankful for but some of the games are still legitimate games I would look forward to playing.
I like you pointing out that these lists are not actually all that great haha I think I was pleasantly surprised after we made our lists. But you are right these games pale in comparison to games that came out even ten years into the new millennium!!
Wow. Top 5 kids games. That's cool. I think I've heard of 2 of those.
6:16 - I had the original Survive! back in the 80’s! Believe it or not, the art and components in the reprint you played are much nicer! The original had very thin island tiles, the wooden whales were just dark blue wood Whale tails, the people were short plastic arms and heads with a wide base for the number on bottom, and the boats were just boat shaped cardboard chits. However, it was always a quick, fun, mean game. (I always liked grabbing tiles under my own people and hoping a boat was on it, only to wind up feeding that person to a shark or a whirlpool!). Do think the reprint updated some rules and added the dolphins.
It is fun no matter which way it comes. It think the dolphins came in a little expansion pack… if I remember correctly…

I will say that Yahtzee is one of the best of those mass-market games from that time. And I forgot about Cosmic Encounter! That should have definitely made the list.

I prefer modern board games, and I'm an old fart. It took me a while to get into this hobby because I didn't know how awesome board games have become. When I was introduced to games 2010's, I was pleasantly surprised (and hooked).
What were some of the games that got you hooked?
Champions of Midgard, Grand Austria Hotel, Caverna, Raiders of the North Sea
@@jacobramirez5974 That seems like a pretty steep learning curve for someone getting into the hobby but those are some great games. I think since 2010 board games have definitely gotten heavier and more complicated, whereas before 2000 there weren't any really complicated games unless you were deep into wargames or Warhammer or something like that.

Yes, I think games in general are way better on the whole now! But some of these games laid a strong foundation :)
