actually thats nothing special about Greek parents. I mean thats the mentality in all of the Mediterranean, Balkans and generally in all more conservative parts of the world (incl China, Latin America or the Middle East) . Family bonds are stronger and this means more protection but less personal freedom. Safety over independance.
Ok everyone here is the deal. We are Greek parents and we care about our children very much. What you may conclude as controlling, it's really not. We do what is best for our children and all that Greek parenting comes from the heart and not from anger issues. We care so much about our kids and we want their safety that's why we need to know who is who and who is their parents and if they are good kids to hangout with. I also experienced all that as a teenager and not only that, but was getting spanked with the sleeper or a wooden spoon for not respecting authority from my elders.
I got a chuckle listening to this. I grew up with Greek parents and went through all of this and heard all of this and much, much more! I fought with my mother, especially, well into my 30s! But I want to give you something to REALLY think about: As the years go by, your parents will age. And they will need your help with basic life skills and possibly getting around. The caretaker shoe will be on your foot. . My mother developed dementia. She doesn't remember the details of our lives together. She doesn't call me every day, or yell at me, or get in my business or try to control my life anymore. Theres also no more buying me things when she went to the store because she thought I would like it or little souvenirs when she went on trips. In short, all the things you're complaining about are forgotten, including the love for me she had. I actually miss my mother calling me and getting in my business, because she did it because she cared! The phone doesn't ring anymore with anyone who loved me as deeply on the other end. So find things about your parents you like and learn to enjoy those things. Because soon enough, all the wranglings you're experiencing will be just a memory. PS Be proud of our heritage and family values. Your parents keep telling you Greeks are THE BEST. They're right! 😉

These are Greeks living outside of Greece. Those living in Greece, especially in Athens are not very conservative at all. I was an American raising teenage daughters in Athens and I was far more conservative than my in-laws and my sister-in-law and their relatives and my daughter's schoolmate's parents in general. The Greeks were only strict about school and getting good grades and passing the university entrance exams. I did find though that all Greeks are pretty free about giving their opinions though, like her parents.
I was about to say that I am in a total disagreement with what you said but then I looked at the comments and saw that some people agree with you. So I guess that greek parents who don't live in Greece have a different attitude than the parents living in Greece. The kind of attitude that you describe in your video sounds more like what our grandparents here in Greece would do... Anyway you are cute but please try not to pass the message that greek parents in general are "annoying" otherwise you could just try to clarify that this is what your parents do and not all the greek parents. I think you are correct. My experience living in Athens and raising teenagers there for 10 years as an American of no Greek ancestry I found I was the most conservative person I knew. For my daughter who was 13, I was like "this party starts at 10pm? A party starting at 10pm for a 13 year old? I will pick you up at 11pm." I didn't even want to go to the beach if any North Western Europeans were going to be there topless, yuck. My daughter wore skirts of different lengths and I recall my father-in-law asking my daughter if she were a nun wearing a midi length skirt and telling her to wear something more "moderna." My mother-in-law upon engagement of a relative nearing 40 told her not to wait until the wedding to sleep with her finacee to ensure they would be more likely to make a baby. I was horrified.

Come on, of course she is Greek. Here dialogue is very authentic too. She looks a lot like my ex brother in law, a Kritikos, where they have more of the ancient Mediterranean area ancestry. She does not look at all like my husband's side of the family though, many of whom came from Attiki who looked more like the Greeks that came from the north into Greece and brought the Greek language and mixed with the indigenous people. Many of them had light eyes and very fair skin and larger noses. Also, he had ancestry from Asia Minor. Many of them had light eyes and big noses. There is a variety of ways that a Greek could look especially because of mixed ancient ancestry.
