After working for 8 hours with the new Studio One Pro 7, (compared with the Studio One 6.4), i can say that by far the BIGGEST improvement, is the ergonomics and visibility ! HUGE difference, to help you see the various "events", and manipulate and arrange them much more easily. Even in the smallest view ( all view window) you can see and move events 500% more easily. So arrangement and composition is much more easy. Also , for those that they have and use splice , its much easier to incorporate a sample in your song. I have tried the rest of the features (global transport , launcher , impact edit view, tempo detection & stem separation) and i can say that although they are very useful , someone will use them from time to time and not always. From the above i found more useful the Impact edit view, which lets you put the kicks, snares, much more easily.
Studio ONE is great but the new pricing is shocking. I like the sound of deep flight one but I use pro plugins from Vengeance which are so much better. Good luck with S7 I am not upgrading.

So far version 7 appears to be a "meh" overall, but especially for $149 upgrade price. "Launcher" basically seems like Cakewalk's Project 5 from 20+ years ago and doesn't justify such a high upgrade cost. As I recall, Cakewalk "of old" also had the ability to simply draw out loops decades ago, so again, way behind the curve here. Deep Flight is probably fine, but not compelling. In my opinion the Stems inclusion had me excited at first but then I realized that it doesn't do guitar. If you wanted to use it to try and remember how you played something you can't. Their biggest update is lying to the user and calling an annual licensing model "perpetual license." Perpetual licenses last the whole lifetime of that software version or, in Image-Line's case, the lifetime of the software itself. Having to renew your license every 12 months is not a perpetual license.
You get 12 months of updates after you last paid $150, after those 12 months you get to keep whatever was released in the meantime unless you pay for next 12 months etc… This is how I understood their pricing scheme. Not sure what happens to bug fixes after 12 months period though
@@FlatTire You don't get them unless you pay. It's the same model Bitwig uses. REAPER uses a similar model, but one license gives you 100 version updates.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino @FlatTire is correct. You don't have to pay again unless you want the updates. That makes it perpetual. And yup, Bitwig does the same. It's fair. Except, I think S1 is charging a bit more.
@@dramadery In my understanding, a perpetual license is valid for the lifetime of that software version. If I paid for a perpetual S1 license, that should give me all version 7 updates. Once version 8 comes out, I have to pay to upgrade to that, otherwise I stay in the fully updated version 7. The only different between this "perpetual license" and the annual licensing plan is you don't lose access to the software if you stop paying. You still don't own the software. There's also another problem this model creates. What if they release version 8 and I don't want to upgrade to that? I am forced to do it because I'd be wasting money if I don't. This is a common problem with Adobe software, where they constantly release new versions of their software where the only update is breaking compatibility with the previous version so you're forced to upgrade your files to the new version.
I think there is a misconception of what a „perpetual licence“ actually is. It is not a licence that provides a lifetime of free updates. It was always tied to the main version, aka v5. If you don’t upgrade you can still run this version as long as your OS supports it. For example I have a perpetual licence for v5. It is still fully functional - after 4 years! But at some point there will be problems, probably with Windows or MacOS, and then you will be forced to upgrade. If, however, you want to benefit from the new features you anyway need to upgrade. I personally don’t like classical’ subscriptions or SaaS services for my music as once you stop to subscribe you immediately loose everything. The advantage of the Plus subscription is that you get access to everything and you can still use the latest S1 version you had once you stop the subscription. So at least a couple of years - which is fair. What has changed is the upgrade cycles, so probably going forward we’ll see annual major updates. And entry price is lowered to attract new customers. Yes, I paid more than these guys but a) I used the stuff and b) new customers and new revenue is the basis for innovation - which is good as well for longtime users. So net net: I fail to see anything evil about this…
Can you directly record into the launcher? that is, can you perform live looping? I am assuming NOT which makes this just a clip and arrangement only feature.
Totally correct…it’s very inconsequential if you already have 6.5…the update is nothing much at all, if you are a new user it’s leaps ahead, obviously…don’t but the hardware as it won’t be supported for long either, I was stung buying into the eco system after buying the series lll 32 S mixer, then to be notified it won’t be supported very long…yep and I’m moving slowly now to selling this desk…and other peripherals along with it…
It is more of a collection of functions in a single package than an update, Splice is an extension, stem separation is an up-to-date update, the rest of the functions are minor. V7 looks like a fix for their past mistakes, it's good that it's all in one place that's true but... what did the boys from Presonus do for a year?
I tried Studio One a few years ago and I just didn’t mesh with it so I’ll probably never try it again but $200 isn’t that bad for a DAW, if it works for you that’s cool, who cares what others think. I’m sure people think I’m insane because Logic Pro is MY main DAW (I also dabble in Cubase & Bitwig also).
That's a lot of question to answer! I"ll do my best. If you have the backing track on your computer, and want to play/record over it, all you need to do is drag and drop the audio file onto new track. Then on a different track, have it set to record your microphone and during recording, you'll hear the backing track. If you're looking to write or create the backing track, then you need to record every single part onto their own tracks and mix! For further or deeper detail, jump into discord and ask the community there! discord.gg/S84G4ejBcj
They should've done things like adding Mid/Side EQ on Pro Q. It's been way more useful with the dynamic EQ feature but that silly workaround in S1 sucks so of course I'll use a third party plugin. I don't care for Splice and paying for 149 bucks just for a VST I have tons of via Kontakt really isn't going to sell this to me. Maybe there will be like a Day One patch 😂 where tomorrow they add in lots of useful stuff but I highly doubt it. Also I still think that to all of us Pro Users 149 bucks for an "update" is quite harsh especially if you've already payed 340 bucks for the pro version. Nah. I'll wait...
The price for longtime users is not fair. I already paid like 600-700$ for all possible upgrades, and now new users can just buy it for 199. Why not make it just an update for v6? Why do I need to buy a whole new program, basically? I love the DAW, but people behind it look for easy money from longtime users. If I stay on v6 it will never update anymore, right????
v6 may only have stability improvements for a little longer, but more attention will be towards v7 and the future, while also addressing things from the past. If there nothing making you say “I need this” then stick with what you have. I know some top level mixers who still have/use old Protools machines because they didn’t need anymore updates and/or a plugin isn’t compatible with new builds. That’s the great thing about the world we live in, we are not forced to purchase!
So you want to pay one price, and get everything they add or improve in the future for free, for eternity. Got it. Now go to work, but don't ever get paid again, for eternity.
In all honesty, I think everybody needs to understand that this is substantial. All of these features are going to improve workflow, help us all with sounds, and overall just expand capabilities beyond compare! The new pricing is understandable, as there will be 4 major flagship updates per year according as to what they’re saying. That is AWESOME. And you don’t HAVE to pay it. You can wait until there’s an update that’s useful to you, then pay the price and have updates for a full year on top of the one you wanted. This is revolutionary! And including presence xt editor as well as the new virtual instruments, studio one is about to get wild! I’m excited to see the progress and new directions. Thank you for this lovely video overview!!!
I suspect Splice subscriptions are about to take a big jump 😂 That stem separation thing is going to make pirating really easy. Karaoke track producers are gonna love it 😂😂
New feature number 2... hmm I could be wrong here (please someone with knowledge on this feel free to confirm this or correct me on this) but I'm pretty certain that that exact feature existed in Logic Pro 8 back around 2007? I could be wrong, I don't think I am though as that was the last version of Logic I owned P.S. not meaning to be negative with this comment, I'm just genuinely suprised S1 doesn't already have this feature (I'd assumed it already had). S1 is a fantastic DAW though obviously.
Personally, I prefer an alternative option to Logic, not a copy of it. The upgrade cost has devalued current versions and you only get 12 months support? Unless users will receive maintenance updates (i.e. fixes) outside of that period, it's an absolutely shocking way to treat existing customers. I don't care for feature updates, but I do care about being able to use the software beyond 12 months! Appreciate your video though! :)
Thanks and good to see your excitement. I've been enjoying your content for years and good to hear your report on S1. After being a S1 fanboy since ver 2.x, I had lost faith in FenderSonus. However with 7, It liooks like they are listening to producers (a bit). I know mixing and engineering is their bread an butter, but they lost any creative edge that they had. Now they need to bring some real innovation to the table. The (not really novel) launcher move is a step in the riight direction, but only a baby step. As to the pricing, still confused on how that will work. If you can get a perpetual license with all needed UPDATES (security patches and serious bug fixes) and then opt in or out in any given year for all the cumulative product UPGRADES (all updates should alreacy be appleid to the system) then they might have hit on a nice mix of support and evolving upgrades. Their messaging (that I've seen) does not help clear things up. Even at this momnet when I'm on the Upgrade Page of the website, it does not describe what I'm signing up for. So close..... Thanks!
I loved Studio One up to now, but the direction they seem to makes want to rethink that.... it seems S1 is targeting mainly EDM creators, not pro audio.... that's very disappointing. I don't care one single bit for samplers, loops, Splice etc. And then that "upgrade" price... 149 for existing users.. that's just really not okay. Worst thing is, new users pay 199 and it's even free with a new Quantum HD interface.... thanks for your gratitude Presonus.
Its really sad that studio one is going after the low end market.. the "Beat Makers" and the "loop kids" they still won't create or fix the features that real musicians and film composers need.. Totally missing the boat. But hey go after the low talent crowd for an easy buck and flashy quick production, no talent tools.
like everything with Studio One... none of the updates are anything people actually wanted. The good features are in the raw state, often abandoned, some are never finished or developed to the useful level. And the VST and VSTi are pretty bad. Yes, they work. But at a mediocre level.
The launcher is to me a new name for the scratch pad? It is the same? Even the look from Sesame Street is too baby toy look a like. Events need to have sharp edges. Dont they? Totally Beatmaker look alike.
Hate the toy looking curved events.... WHY? And the demos are totally useless... unless you want to listen to some bubblegum rap or you're interested in binaural and Atmos. The fact that it's now got a new sample loop player but still has no scrub tool tells you where Presonus and music in general is sadly heading. 🙁
you can loop a clip with "D" already....come on......its much better then pointing little mouse arrow and dragging..WHy is everyone so happy about that loop option?Stems separation is okeeey...global tranpose is okeyish and tempo detect is good but it's really very minor and disapointing update really...midi edition/musical tools are still pretty baaaad.
Hi, I don’t know if anyone is willing to give out a copy of studio one license for free as I am in great need of one and can’t afford it at the moment, I don’t want to use cracked softwares anymore as I don’t get to enjoy the full benefits of original software. Anyone please?????

So net net: I fail to see anything evil about this…
I love it just love it
Can you directly record into the launcher? that is, can you perform live looping? I am assuming NOT which makes this just a clip and arrangement only feature.
Even so…Bitwig would allow you to do this, and then you can use the DAWproject file to open it in Studio One for mixing
@@TeslaOsiris he didn't ask about bitwig though
@@Gang-25j I was detailing a workaround for what he’s is wanting, my guy.
@@RomellAlaman yes you can 👍
Ain’t Deep Flight One the same as Lead Architect? Love the new features anyway ❤
I tested Studio One 7's stem separation function against that of Logic Pro 11. With the material I used, Logic had much less artifacts.
Totally correct…it’s very inconsequential if you already have 6.5…the update is nothing much at all, if you are a new user it’s leaps ahead, obviously…don’t but the hardware as it won’t be supported for long either, I was stung buying into the eco system after buying the series lll 32 S mixer, then to be notified it won’t be supported very long…yep and I’m moving slowly now to selling this desk…and other peripherals along with it…
Would be nice if Studio One offer amp profiling own amps.
They just implemented features taken from Bitwig and FL-Studio. Genius.
Can Splice audition the sample with your reference playing?
It is more of a collection of functions in a single package than an update, Splice is an extension, stem separation is an up-to-date update, the rest of the functions are minor. V7 looks like a fix for their past mistakes, it's good that it's all in one place that's true but... what did the boys from Presonus do for a year?
Counted the cash, probably.
Obeyed their Fender CEO’s orders…
How much does this program cost
$199 for new users or $149 upgrade from previous versions!
How to make a simple backing track for a tenor sax I mean jazz and blues?
You can use Studio One version 3 😂
That's a lot of question to answer! I"ll do my best. If you have the backing track on your computer, and want to play/record over it, all you need to do is drag and drop the audio file onto new track. Then on a different track, have it set to record your microphone and during recording, you'll hear the backing track.
If you're looking to write or create the backing track, then you need to record every single part onto their own tracks and mix! For further or deeper detail, jump into discord and ask the community there! discord.gg/S84G4ejBcj
How to make a simple backing track for a tenor sax
The Zelda reference warms my heart
I was thinking of you when I said it!
GREAT VIDEO THANKS.
Why didn't they at least update the GUI?
ill wait for next update.. not into things for hleping copy/work existing audio into my music.. trying to stay orginal
There is literally nothing in this update but bloatware garbage.
@@TimTalksAudio "while also addressing things from the past."
That might be believable if they did that at all for this shit update.
So you want to pay one price, and get everything they add or improve in the future for free, for eternity. Got it. Now go to work, but don't ever get paid again, for eternity.
@@davidnika446 So you want to pay twice as much for half?
Karaoke track producers are gonna love it 😂😂
I really love the new features of SO7! The price is absolutely allright. If you want everything for free - use audacity.
New feature number 2... hmm I could be wrong here (please someone with knowledge on this feel free to confirm this or correct me on this) but I'm pretty certain that that exact feature existed in Logic Pro 8 back around 2007?
I could be wrong, I don't think I am though as that was the last version of Logic I owned
P.S. not meaning to be negative with this comment, I'm just genuinely suprised S1 doesn't already have this feature (I'd assumed it already had).
Man, this is an AWESOME update!!! So glad to be using this DAW! This is awesome content! Thanks!!!
Glad you enjoy it!
Update is NOT worth it….if you are a new user , oh yes u will love it….try being 12 years loyal with presonus from the start…
Guys. Its $150. Say you're not an actual engineer without saying you're not an actual engineer. Pay the few dollars and quit crying.
Biggest DaW Update of 2024 …. Behahaahahahaha!
Thanks!
They took a lot of things from Cakewalk in this update.I am sure other DAW users will see similarities also.
yeah, but cakewalk had them over ten years ago...
Can you freeze busses yet? If not. Hard pass.
The launcher looks like it’s only for making beats with loops and midi instruments. Not real music.
There's that word again... Loop! 🙄
So still no sampler like in maschine
I own 6 pro and paid for it I should be able to upgrade to 7 pro for FREE FREE . Brand new people just pay 199.00 how is that cool.....NO BRO
South Africa first
no one care, stop going too every video posting that goofy shit man.
nothing new 😢
Awesome updates! Thanks for this video
A lot like logic
one can only hope they have the production stuff logic has. their synth, alchemy alone is amazing. it already comes with 70 GB of libraries.
Presonus 7 in one word... Loop! 🙄
This is really a big mistake 😂
Its really sad that studio one is going after the low end market.. the "Beat Makers" and the "loop kids" they still won't create or fix the features that real musicians and film composers need.. Totally missing the boat. But hey go after the low talent crowd for an easy buck and flashy quick production, no talent tools.
Oh now I’ve got to hear your music 😄

f..k Studio one 7, they don't care about us me too
Looks like an absolute nightmare to work with compared to Logic or Performer. Way too many DAWs out there right now…
like everything with Studio One... none of the updates are anything people actually wanted. The good features are in the raw state, often abandoned, some are never finished or developed to the useful level. And the VST and VSTi are pretty bad. Yes, they work. But at a mediocre level.
Are you kidding?
One synthesizer and an outdated stem splitting algorithm?
People stop thinking that you get everything without having to pay for it!
This is, by far, their absolute worst update yet.
Wow. Studio One 7 is awesome and will continue that trajectory. So many complainers. Leave and go to Pro Tools or whatever already. Good riddance.
Hi, I don’t know if anyone is willing to give out a copy of studio one license for free as I am in great need of one and can’t afford it at the moment, I don’t want to use cracked softwares anymore as I don’t get to enjoy the full benefits of original software. Anyone please?????
