    “it seemed like a good idea at the time” is New Order’s subtitle. Brilliant interviews by Pete Tong these.

    One of the best gigs I’ve been to, Jodrell Bank, “love will tear us apart” was the encore! The crowd went mad, a girl next to me was sat, On her dads shoulders about 5 singing every word! I congratulated her dad!

    New Order have such a reserved, down-to-earth, sophisticated image it's trippy to remember that they have a long history of being club-head party animals. But I suppose I've been naive with the Hacienda and all.

      WTF?!"This guy"=Bernard Sumner is not trying to erase Peter Hook from history.Not at all. Do some more research!He decided to leave in 2007 and you want Sumner to talk all day long until he collapses about how great Hooky was and still is?Do people spend precious time for the rest of their lives talking about the qualities of their exes?Don't be ridiculous,Hook is still (in the) history and will always be.Nobody is erasing him as a musician,nobody is trying to erase him!I wish,instead,somebody would erase the amount of tears Gillian Gilbert/Morris shed whenever Hooky said/wrote nasty and ugly things about her after he left.Ask Stephen Morris about it how Peter did hurt and "bite" Gillian like a mad dog with his greatness.And he did some cruel things to all of them even when he was still in the band.What's all this endless shit with Hooky seen as the Jesus of New Order,crucified by Bernard and the others?Many people feeling sad because Bernard said in this interview "Peter Hook,our ex bass player and a roadie called Terry." Hook is New Order's ex bass player,Tom Chapman is New Order's bass player for many years.Can't all these people see the reality,desperate trying to see Hook instead of Chapman?And Terry Mason was one of their roadies indeed.

      I wouldn't say I 'knew' Ruth Polski, but met her many times when she stayed at The Columbia Hotel back in the day, a hotel that had its fair of share bands, musicians and music industry types pass through its doors. Without doubt she was one of the most pleasant, down to earth and unpretentious guests. Her death was indeed sad.

      I worked at London Records in the mid 90's, worked on "Regret" and spent time with Hooky after a Duritti gig, pre-release of The Best Of? Hooky was 'ow do we meek soom fookin mooney?' I said, tour this album, he said 'never gonna fookin 'appen!' Toxic back then, and a bloody shame! He mentioned that to me also

      Nobody ever said "It's not New Order without Gillian!".
      A bit unfair, I would say. And in all seriousness, Tom Chapman is actually a very talented bass player. Sure, not as charismatic and extrovert as Hooky, but Tom plays his part very well.

      I am definitely going to buy Hooky's first book and Bernard's book, to make some kind of fair comparison.
      If I recall correctly, Hooky wrote two books already, but that second book has to wait.
      There is even a German translation of Barney's book, but although I am a German fan, I will not buy it, simply because it kinda distorts the whole experience of reading it for the first time.

    He's forgot about the party underneath the Hacienda after New Order's G-Mex gig in December 1988. Fantastic sound system [sounded better than the one in the actual club] a strobe and a smoke machine. Mike Pickering and Mike Prendergast as MPsquared DJing. Started after the gig finished, ended sometime the following morning. Proper early acid house action.

    New Order's music is really important to many, Including myself. Bernard Sumner is of course is a critical part of the story and I will always hold him in high regard, but, if there is one thing that comes across is that oh my goodness he holds a grudge doesn't he... not referring to Peter Hook as Hooky (like everybody in the world does) or acknowledging what he brought to the New Order sound and calling Terry Mason just a "Roadie" when he was so much more involved with the history of the band than that seems really very petty and demeaning, it's like saying that Stephen is just a drummer or Gillian is just a keyboard player and as for Tom and Phil, they are just hired hands.
    Hooky says in his book (the one we don't discuss) that Barny acted like it was his band... looks like he's right.

    He "wanted a yacht" is what he said in another interview about what he wanted out of Joy Division\New Order and the late great Tony Wilson gave them a club instead. I'm 100% with Tony Wilson - he MADE them in the first place by putting them on TV and promoting them. Tony Wilson was a poet - a real one who instead of using words made his visions real and in the process he put Manchester on the map on the world stage. None of them have done that bad out of it - all are well known and part of the legend that Tony Wilson helped to craft from a bunch of working class lads on the make.

    I bought Technique on CD, my first NO album in that format, when it came out, and I played it, played it, played it. One of the best studio albums from NO, imo. Oh, yeah, in 1990, as an American tourist visiting Manchester, I was turned away by "security" from entering the Hacienda, with a "sorry, mate, not like that (how you are dressed)". Nearly 60 years old and still so immature about accepting the shortcomings of others. I feel sorry for the remaining three in that light. It remains one of the reasons I think they will all be dead before the group's possibly make the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Until then it is actually Faux Order.

      It's a conundrum for me. I've never been a fan of Bernard Sumner and kind of despise him but the whole New Order sound, their place in modern culture, my personal love of and experience with their music, and of course the Joy Division roots, firmly plants New Order as an important piece of my personal life.

I heard from many like you, the once think they know everything but they don't know any shit, only stupid people act arrogant don't forget that.

    • @BenniRoR
      @BenniRoR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, just start insulting me for no fucking reason. This could have been a cool, nice conversation about a great band, but no: you have to make this into a fight. Of course.
      Why am I stupid for liking these songs? Does that make me a bad person? Why am I lacking the wisdom to comprehend which songs are good and bad? So you are a wise and old man who is cunning enough to tell which songs are likeable and which songs should be despised?
      "I heard from many like you, the once think they know everything but they don't know any shit, only stupid people act arrogant don't forget that."
      And what does that even MEAN? I heard every album from New Order, from Movement to Music Complete and I pretty much liked every album they ever released. Do I have to ask you first wether or not I am allowed to like a song?
      And why the heck am I arrogant? I just made a list of songs that I find hard to dislike and now I am arrogant?
      WHAT?!

    • @jakecolburn8946

Have you heard that good saying laugh the one who laugh the last, and last the laugh belongs to me. People like you trucking me to other channels all over the youtube, you know that is the job of CIA, who else does that beside CIA? After all that what do you want me say, why in the world dick heads like you will do that following me to other channel;s and leave nasty comments? Do you have any explanations for that insulting me in other channels?

    • @BenniRoR
      @BenniRoR 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You know, I expected this kind of answer. You probably didn't even read my whole comment. You are just full of hate. But that is always the case with the fellow Hooky-lovers. Go on and keep on clinging to the old times. I enjoy every aspect of New Order.
      But answer me a couple of things:
      -Why am I a smartass?
      -When did I track you on TH-cam? I never fucking met and I never saw you on TH-cam before.
      You must under some kind of heavy psychological condition, or maybe you mistook me for someone else. I don't know.
      And what do you even mean by: "if smart asses like you had little wisdom you could have found New Odor long ago"
      I listen to New Order since a couple of years now. When did anyone ever say anything about the time he has been listening to the band? Not once.
