Barney reminds me a lot of my father in this. The way he jokingly says „it was me, it was my idea“ or „i played all the guitars“ - again: jokingly. I mean it must be quite annoying to spend time with him but i guess i know where he comes from. this behavious as deep and dark roots. simplest way to explain is to say that people above him didn‘t recognize enough what brilliant ideas he might have had when he was younger. i guess i can really relate to that because having read Barneys book, my father grew up quite similar. I love you Barney and New Order ♥️ your music is a true joy!
WTF, why is everyone in teh comments ripping on this interview calling it boring? Just what do they think an interview is supposed to be? Fireworks and LED lights!?
Next time please get a good host/ journalist instead of a friend of the band. The result of having a friend asking questions is everything is just extremely tame and boring
+Telekom Electronic Beats I sure know Arthur Baker. It doesn't make it any better though. The questions are extremely predictable and you can tell that the audience is also getting bored more and more. It doesn't make a difference is Arthur is "famous" as you point out. He does a pretty crap job at this. And this is coming from a huge New Order AND Arthur Baker Fan , myself. Next time get someone who is able to conduct a real interview. Going through each song like this is just lame. Even the band is bored after a while
This is what happens when you get old. Keep it the way it was. We don't need Bernard the pop singer telling us how long he takes to write a song. Real fans don't care. Keep your mouth shut like the old days, and don't do drawn out extended interviews about one album. A bit of mystery is a good thing whether unintentionally or intentionally. I think they forgot what they used to be like. Is there American idiot there because its sponsored by T-Mobile? Why not at least get any type of Journalist...even if they are just starting out. No kidding young people these days are not getting anywhere, instead you get a bloated biker dressing disco music remixer, instead of people who can put the their music and the album in a cultural perspective.
1.) - The band is almost exactly the way it was, the only difference is that Peter Hook isn't there this time. 2.) - It's an interview. What would you rather they did-stay dumb and quiet and pretend to not know anything? You sound like you are resentful towards Barney simply because he took NO in an entirely different direction after Ian Curtis' death. Speak for yourself. I want to know more about how they produced the music personally. 3.) - The 'American Idiot' is Dance Music Producer Arthur Baker; you know-the same guy who produced NO's songs 'Confusion', 'Thieves Like Us', and 'Blue Monday', as well as Electronic's third album 'Twisted Tenderness'. I don't know if you've ever heard of him? 4.) - You need to wake up and stop living in the past. The music scene has transformed since the 1980s; technology and music trends have changed many times over since then. These guys have too. New Order will never be 'relevant' in the same way they were in the 1980s, because the world is different now. But they've made their mark on music history and they're not resting on their laurels even though each of them is approaching 70 now. No one band is ever going to recapture the glory days of back when they first became famous. If you don't particularly care for their new stuff; that is fine, but there is no need to sour the air for those of us who actually do (I'm 30 years old, and I like Music Complete, and wanted to know a lot more about it).
And Peter Hook and the Light are NOT New Order or Joy Division, when they write new material then he might have an argument, but touring albums to death and not doing anything worthwhile compared to this incarnation is hilarious. This New Order has 3 band members of the original 4, Crooky and the Blight is him and some pals.
@@mikhailpreda Peter Hook & The Light have never claimed to "be" New Order or Joy Division. Peter has always said they are a commemorative tribute band that celebrates and plays the music of Joy Division/New Order. He has also stated that they are not a band put together to write new music. Irrelevant to have 3 of 4 original members when the most notable member whose sound drove both bands is no longer there.

@@NeptuneReturnz I don't blame them after Factory sucked all the life and cash out of them - Factory cost them MILLIONS, not giving them proper accounts for records sold (inc. Been listening to them like crazy lately, love them!!
same
can't believe how good they are
Love Academic also! In fact, love the whole album!
28:08 "Bernard, creativity, it starts with a deadline." I completely lost it there. Always nice to take life lessons from New Order.
31:14 = freudian slip Mr Sumner...
Actually I found it quite entertaining and informative.
Who are bands who inspired Gillian at 30:04?
Factory Floor, Hot Chip, East India Youth
Sparks
“New Order”
Quite.

Imagine if they were to get Bobby Orlando to do a remix!!!! 2:05
Not sure if people still watch this, but... Phil is my uncle, it’s fine if you don’t believe me,
Baywatch! Fucking hell
Gillian still sexy Af!
Af = As fuck
This New Order are very similar to Robbie Williams but without the Mellotron.

+schmollywood it's the famous Arthur Baker, not just a "friend".
Remember Planet Rock, Confusion and many other classics?

I agree there is a lack of tension when it's a friend interviewing though it does permit a more intrusive interview, due to the guards being down.
ZZZZzzzzzz
stupid
Use the search box of TH-cam to find something that is of YOUR personal interest. Thanks. (This tip was free :) )

Looks like a big ego trip for Barney, booooring.

Easy: Enjoy what you enjoy.
New Order is NOT New Order without Peter Hook. Rename the band. Play New Order songs live if you want, but rename the band.
