Got to love long warranties like that. Somewhat related: In 2004 I had my 1968 model year Beetle serviced at a VW dealership. When I got the car back, part of the bill read: Replaced crankcase ventilation, cost 0. I asked about it. Turned out, the mechanic they had working on my car, was close to retirement age and had worked at the dealership since before my car was built. So he knew these old aircooled cars in and out, and he'd noticed that the crankcase ventilation on my car was of a type they routinely replaced back in the day, free of cost, as it could cause a major oil leak. Thing was, he had an original rebuild kit lying around in his garage at home, and he gave it to me for free. He just loved getting to work on an old Beetle again.

The engine fan is actually magnesium, and the fan blades separating from the hub is a problem that has been increasingly common lately, I've noticed. Worried that the stock of good fans will deplete pretty quickly.
I had those SBC pumps replaced on two w211s. Not only has Mercedes extended warranty on the pump but almost entire braking system(excluding calipers & lines/hoses). It covers brake pedal sensor, master cylinder, steering angle sensors, pump, pressure reservoirs etc.
There's nothing impressive about it, it's the exact opposite. The brake pump has a shit design and people fought for the warranty. The pump uses an electric motor to build pressure for the system to work. Problem is the electric motor wears out with time and once it does, you lose the brakes other than a slight force onto the front brakes just to get you home, driving at slow speeds. Originally there was no extra warranty on the pump other than the car's warranty. But with all the problems people started having and because it's the fucking brake system, the most important system in the car, Mercedes extended it to 10 years, followed by 15 years and then to 25 years. With the face-lift of the W211 E class, Mercedes got rid of the SBC system. They spent a billion dollars to develop it only to end up using it for a few years on 4 different models (E class, SL, SLR and Maybach). It was a failure for Mercedes.
They did not do that out of the goodness of their heart. A lot of litigation had to happen and i believe a class action lawsuit also. People talk about the decline of Mercedes quality and THIS is the exact pinnacle moment it started to go down the drain. I mean if you design a brake by wire system, why in the hell would you make it have a BRUSHED electric motor on the pump meaning the lifespan is limited. On cars that were supposed to be "The Best or Nothing"!
Though a bad water pump bearing could cause vibration and resuled in the fan's damage, I wonder if the fan went first, lost a blade due to fatigued/cracked aluminum and then when it became unbalanced as a result it put major stresses on the water pump shaft bearings and fan clutch. Chicken and egg I suppose :) (But to choose, I think the fan went first and took out the pump and clutch)
I got a warning from fakebook for responding to a photo someone took of their kid's lunch. They were complaining that it was pitiful when it had mashed potatoes, beef, peas, gravy and a small salad. I said "that's more than I eat for lunch" and got a warning.
I work for enterprise and there’s a customer who has an older Mercedes M-class (2008-2011 I forgot the exact year) that somehow is still under a warranty. The part is on a waiting list and very little of them are released at a time. Mercedes has been paying for the rental for over 250 days now. That’s well over $13000 worth of rental…… That’s just as expensive as buying a used M-Class right now. Absolutely insane warranties
I'm guessing it's the brake booster recall. Mercedes recalled all vehicles using a particular brake booster design because of possible corrosion issues causing leakage and loss of power assist. Literally 2 cars were found with the issue in the entire world, out of many that used this particular booster design, and they decided to issue an urgent recall telling people not to drive the affected cars and providing rentals until the repair is performed... However, there's a few million cars affected, and they are behind on replacement parts. Again... They found 2 cars with rusted out boosters, out of a few million, and they're replacing all of them.
Trust me, when the water pump went bad it tore up the fan clutch and broke the fan blade. When the bearing goes bad in the water pump the ensuing vibration tears up everything else.
It’s good to ask dealerships for these “secret” extended warranties if your vehicle has an issue. I work as a tech at Toyota and we refer to them as WEPs. They cover specific components even if the car is out of warranty. I once bought a dieselgate era VW Golf, turns out it had engine warranty up to 200K. I only found out it had warranty when i priced out a glow plug, it was covered under warranty at 180K
A lot of the newer cars have a backup key inside the fob. You can pop the push start button off and there will be a spot behind it to use that key to start the car
This happens with other stuff too. I had a Minolta XK camera in for repairs in the 90s. For a flat fee, they basically rebuilt it with every part they had lying around. I figure it was at least $1k worth of parts for $160. I sent it to them for shutter replacement.
@@conor7154 Some of the most interesting engines are old.. and power doesn't really mean much. There's a lot more to an engine than just how old or powerful it is.
Did they steam clean the engine insides. Only time I see a head that clean is when it comes out of a box new. How do you disable anti-lock breaks on a break by wire system? Unintentional I'm sure, but there's a Citroen DS in the background - it was from the pioneer of the ball accumulator suspension system - who did it originally on the Deux Chevaux .... cool Hoovie.
Even the xhorse key - if its dead, press the nose of the fob to the start button and it should start. It has an induction loop on the start button that will induce a current to the chip in the key and start it up. Pull your new battery and give it a try!!!

One problem with that proximity system - it's assuming the issue is a dead battery. If the fob itself is bad (perhaps water got into it), you're going to need a new key and someone why can program the car to it. Might want to have spare keys for all your cars.
Hoovie has destroyed my aspirations of owning and driving almost everyone of my dream cars. I don’t know how much more I can lower my standards, but when I do I am sure 100% Jake, the Motory Notary and Watch JR Go will. destroy those as well
No, that's just a superior design. Once you've worked with that, you wonder why they don't all do that. (The decision to hang the radiator grille from the hood is probably what drove it, but it makes access from the side, better, too.)
A software reset of the SBC to 0 on my W211 is what I had done for about € 200,- years back. Never a fail, and like you said it will not suddenly cease. So when it fails it can always be replaced.
I'd seen a video about that braking system before. Another TH-camr was trying to fix a SL for a person he considered a mentor, got a total rubber runaround from dealers in his area, and was absolutely livid about the whole thing. Despite the sheer folly you experience with these cars, you get me looking at them
im glad you Guys knew the SBC thing is still under warranty. Ive been looking at W211's and ive seen some with the red SBC warning, im hoping they sell them dirt cheap and i can get it fixed for FREE!! lol
I got my E55 fuel pumps and fuel tank replaced under factory warranty at 15 years old. Gotta give Mercedes credit for that. Even the dealership was surprised.
It's probably less noticeable with a multi-blade fan like the one on the S600, but having a blade snap off a cooling fan can seriously alter the smoothness of the engine (it throws the balance out). Will be interesting to see if it runs smoother with the new fan. But, with 12 cylinders and the PCV hose replaced, it may be hard to notice.
I see you have a car like mine a Citroen DS. Can you do a video on that? I didn’t think there were any over there. I’m in New Zealand which has just been devastated by a cyclone.

Extended warranties are quite funny. I recently took our '03 Mercury Grand Marquis in for a replacement L.C.M (Light Control Module), it isn't fun hitting a bump and losing your headlights, and then franticly kicking under the dash to get them back on. It was hilarious to be waiting in the same line as brand new Ford's in for oil changes and other services, and what was even more crazy is a replacement module was sub $200-250, and the dealership replaced it for free, didn't even charge labor. I'm sure not complaining
Proximity keys have nice features but burn batteries. Replace at least yearly and carry a spare battery. Also do not place near computers, the key tries to talk to it and runs itself down.
I can't believe BMW has notified me of a Recall on my '06 530 I. They are going to do a complete replacement on the PCV Valve Heater. At no cost to me.. Outstanding !!
Many years ago, my sister and her hubby got a Dodge Omni. Dodge (only for a year or two) offered a factory 5 year/*unlimited* mileage warranty. Well, they were driving all over the country at the time. They had numerous factory warranty repairs done at well over 400K miles!
Sbc is an amazing, maybe the best brake system ever produces. Incredible stopping force. In an emergency the system knows, wheel speed, stering angle, g forces, how hard and quick you are pushing the pedal. If you are pushing the gas. And so on. When it works it is amazing in my opinion.
The xHorse key has the same feature to where you can hold it near the ignition coil to read the key when the battery is dead. Sometimes they don't fit into the slot (if the car has one) in which case you can disassemble the key and only insert the board.
the irony of the maybach, with it having 2 separate braking systems, you could have a complete failure of one and still be able to stop FAR better than if the same total bomb job happens in any other MB with the system.

From 2004 -2008 I delivered new BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Yes that 12 cylinder is impressive. The Maybach dealer check in / inspection process was something like 4 hours as they would verify each feature. Once they signed for it. It was theirs. While waiting at a Porsche dealer the shop had a cayenne 8 cylinder on a device that had pivots. The engine was on this device and the heads were on pivots from the engine. Never seen that since. The Germans are very creative with their tools and devices to aide in engine removal . It was under warranty but the cars was over 6 figures new.

I had those SBC pumps replaced on two w211s. Not only has Mercedes extended warranty on the pump but almost entire braking system(excluding calipers & lines/hoses). It covers brake pedal sensor, master cylinder, steering angle sensors, pump, pressure reservoirs etc.
Hoovie is single-handedly repopulating the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance of 2052.
😂
I’m very impressed with the after sales services from Mercedes Benz, covering these items still under warranty.
For what you pay, the entire Maybach should be under warranty for 25 yrs, not just the goofy brake system.
The best or nothing.
It becomes less impressive because you have to utilize it all the time since their cars are so unreliable.
How did Hoovie get a TH-cam strike? He kept talking about bleeding, resetting and replacing his balls.🤣
Wizard showing his rear end didn't help matters.
That was a public service about responsible men getting a vasectomy. But to quote South Park’s Cartman, TH-cam Suck my B….’s.”
Thankfully the (drive)shaft underneath is pretty girthy so at least that'll stay stiff

Glad to see something is going right for a car in your fleet!
That engine would make a stunning coffee table. That’s about it
I would imagine they would be great engines if you were filthy rich and money was no object

How do you disable anti-lock breaks on a break by wire system? Granted a mahbach probably has lousy skid and slide properties anyways, but you can probably do some interesting things dropping individual wheels with the air shocks......
Sweet!!! And look at the V70R!!!! I have an '04 with 235K miles on it. And yes, she's a manual with the "space ball"!!!! And I see that the air bag has been replaced under the recall. I hate that I took it in for the recall because I had to give up my special "R" air bag. But hey, better safe than sorry. Right? 😀
In Australia, a 2003 Maybach 62 had an RRP of $1.15M that equates to about US$790K. You'd think a 25yr warranty would be the least they could do.
I feel your pain, I recently had to replace the wiper blades on my 2015 Honda!
SBC warranty is for 25 years! Signed by a 2003 SL500 owner.
Lucky north american customers, this warranty does not apply in Europe, otherwise my fried SBC pump would't have totaled my W211

Reminds me of the story about how when we captured an intact German fighter built near the end of WW2 and the hard silver solder joints on the engine plumbing was sanded and polished. Even losing the war came second to German over-engineering. They just can't help themselves. And it will always be their downfall.

The Maybach was NOT “over-engineered”; it was, like a lot of German cars, UNDER-engineered. Their despicable lack of reliability indicates incomplete engineering.
I has a 96 totota 4runner I bought in 1998 with over 300k miles and it blew a head gasket. It was under recall for that issue and to my surprise they replaced it free

That's actually really cool you can get it done at the dealer.
For free.
One problem with that proximity system - it's assuming the issue is a dead battery. If the fob itself is bad (perhaps water got into it), you're going to need a new key and someone why can program the car to it. Might want to have spare keys for all your cars.

Reliability: When a car company designs it’s hood to open all the way, question it.

Another TH-camr was trying to fix a SL for a person he considered a mentor, got a total rubber runaround from dealers in his area, and was absolutely livid about the whole thing.

im glad you Guys knew the SBC thing is still under warranty.
Ive been looking at W211's and ive seen some with the red SBC warning, im hoping they sell them dirt cheap and i can get it fixed for FREE!! lol
The facelift W211s got rid of the SBC
Love the W140.
The blue leather in the Volvo is absolutely beautiful.

That S600 has a super clean engine. Previous owners were fastidious on the maintenance. Very good to see.
Had this type of thing with a few cars.
