Alright let's take bets how many episodes it will take for Tyler to start backpedaling on all this praise and start justifying why it needs to go ASAP? 😅
My business was flying high back in 2006, and I bought one of these. 3 months later, I lost my contract, which led to me losing my business, and ended up declaring bankruptcy and gave the car back to the dealer. I had 4 small boys and my wife, and I thought my life was over. The dealer owner heard my story, and felt sorry for me, and bought it back from me, for $3k less than I paid. I loved that car. Have fun with it.
Hey Tyler, amazing video as always! Loving the M6 journey so far. To all the BMW aficionados here, let's get real. Is it just me or does the M6 have this dual personality? It can be a luxurious Grand Tourer and a raging beast on the racetrack, all in one. 💎🔥 As for the rod bearings and throttle actuators - consider this comment a third reminder to get those fixed ASAP! 😂🔧
@@burntnougat5341amen!!!!! I have had a few E34's and they all could dance around the racetrack with very minimal preparation....the fat girls sure could dance!!!
As an owner of a 2006 M6, 6 years with it 40 k plus put by me I can say its a great car. Do rod bearings and eventually throttle actuators and its much better than most think reliability wise. Engine sounds magic have long tube headers tune and filters.
OMG I LOVE IT!!!! I love how now you're into collector cars and stuff instead of basic hoopties, please take care of it and keep it and i think the manual swap would be a good choice and if you want you could keep the old transmission on the side 🤷🏻♂️
I have mentioned in the comments of previous e63 videos how much I LOVE this version of the 6 series. The car looks bad ass as it drives by. I LOVE my 645 convertible. It's a delicate flower, but it is what it is.
Love you man. The 645 is the closest I’ve been to car heaven. I have driven a few Ferraris and newer bmws but I’d take my 645 over all of them. Sold it when my kid was born and I couldn’t take care of it like I did before
Why does no big TH-camr buy a 6.1L hemi car? Started making them in 2005, 425 HP, few different options to pick from as for the car, and the bottom end is basically indestructible. One of the biggest hidden gems in the car world.
Love it Hoovie! Great choice! You are a manual swap and rod bearing replacement away from a supercar. (Plus wheel, CarPlay module, KW suspension, exhaust and bodykit)
You are not modifying it by swapping for a manual transmission, you are FIXING IT! Drive Tribe had a M5 Touring Swapped on their channel. Just praises for it!
Your description of the M6 issues and costs for repairs makes me feel pretty good about my bad decisions. I am just daily driving something with an Optispark. Inconvenient and a bit expensive, absolutely, but way better than the 15 things that will total a BMW.
These cars are fantastic, Rod bearings and throttle actuators and these are very reliable. I’ve had mine for over 70k miles now with no issues but tires
If you eliminate the SMG nightmare with a manual the only big issue are rod bearings. Just plan on replacing every 60,000 miles. This is a scaled up F1 motor that revs to 8200 rpm. Throttle actuators can fail but not a big job to change: I replaced my failed actuator and the other side just to be sure and while I was there replaced the injectors.
Another great video! Thanks for making me remember how great my 2007 M5 was. Loved that car was, it was an absolute beast on the track. Put everything in the most aggresive settings and the car would just eat up the track and then go back to normal for the drive home. Got it 34,000 miles and traded at 50,000 after two transmission fault warnings. probably should have kept it. was just and awesome car to drive and the v10 noise in the car at high RPM. Just wow!
Don't we all get those BMW "ding/chimes" that instantly send fear and shock into our minds? Then instead of enjoying the car, you start backing down from 9/10ths to 6 or 7/10ths for fear you'll hear the ding again or the dealer tells you a dreaded stored code needs to be addressed. They are fun cars when leased and under warranty.
Here in the uk there’s a company that regularly manual-swaps V10 M5s and they use the manual box and diff from an E92 M3 which apparently works well. I would assume it could be done to the M6 as well. As the ratios are shorter it reduces the theoretical top speed but is much better suited to the torque of that V10.
Tyler my 335i has thrown a belt.. so what a ya do!? Just parked in the driveway for now.. You have a big heart and it’s good to see that glimmer of your prankster grin coming back! truly big hearts hurt the worst.. You’re awesome and I look forward to many more years of your antics!
You can try getting the European SMG tune, which really does improve the gearbox quite a bit. Also, your catalytic converters are off of your headers so basically you can do cats back and virtually put almost nothing there with the exception of rear resonators and the car will sound amazing and it's not loud inside at all. I did that to my M5 along with a custom dyno tune and it really rolled out.
I had a manual 2010 M6 convertible with under 15k miles for a couple years. Never gave me a reliability issue and was the best car I've ever owned. You can't find a car that provides a driving experience like this at a similar price point. If you can find a well maintained lower mile one they can be a great car for the money.
Yeah Hoovie! Killing it as always. Way to go. Would be really nice to see a tribute to the old top gear where they were driving on the beach with this one!!
Had a 2006 6 speed manual E63. Was an amazing car, so fun to drive, absolutely screamed, had it for 3 years 2018-2021, didn’t kill myself, didn’t get arrested, didn’t blow it up, sold it for more than I paid for it, that’s a E63 story made in Heaven. The 6 speed manuals are the only ones to own, don’t buy an SMG.
Have daily driven my e63 M6 for the past 2 years and the car has been flawless. It's really aged like fine wine. As a long time sub, it makes me happy to see one getting some love on the channel. Might pick up a second M6 later in the year because I love it so much ;).
This isn't called the stupidest TH-cam channel for nothing. Congratulations Hoovie on your new BMW. I'm sure there will be much more content from this. You can always LS swap it if it goes too far south. Next level for buying this car sight unseen.
I bought a E64 M6 convertible during the pandemic for $20k w/ 46k miles. Been loving it ever since. Such a bargain due to the overhyped issued, so thanks to all the haters for bashing it.
I’d say swap to a manual once the smg pump starts to give u a lot of issues, but since there was a recent service I wouldn’t worry about it too much, that’s what I did with my E46
I bought my 2007 E63 M6 in Scotland in 2011 my car is like new with 27 thousand miles on it currently. Same colour as your one Indianapolis Red. My car never goes out in bad weather and lives under a cover in a de humidified garage here in Ireland ! I always loved these !
you can retrofit newer idrive systems into these generation bmws in a reversible manner if you want factory car play and a new screen with bluetooth natively speak to your car
I have to admit that I always loved these cars. I live in Jamaica and a reggae artist named Junior Reid bought one new. I saw it on the road all the time. He had a convertible and it was black on black. The sound of that engine and the curves of the design made it one of the coolest cars I saw as a kid. My Grandad had a E34 525i when I was a toddler and my love for BMW grew from there. The V10 stuck with me though. Very special car.
Yes swap it and get a nice valves exhaust for it they sound glorious when they’re unrestricted. I was obsessed with these when I was younger then saw all the maintenance on them and said nope real quick.
I got the small reliable brother of this M6, the 630i Manual. Owning it now for 8 years and this car will never go away. I love it, always wanted the big brother but super happy with the 630i.
You should get the swap kit. It makes it look like it came that way from the factory if you do it right. @Drivetribe did that to their E61 M5 wagon and it looked great!
If I was ever so blessed to have money I would buy a 2000s V10 BMW and just do twin turbo LS swap. They look nice on the outside but I wouldn't want to mess with all that mess
I still remember seeing an E60 for the first time. I was at Tower Records. Man, my respect for the family E39 skyrocketed. However, you are right about this generation of BMW nearly two decades later. These cars have a far more civil design than what we are seeing now-a-days. Fingers crossed that the pendulum swings in the opposite direction.
21k is a good deal for that M6. Let ninja sort it out (just replace everything known to go) and it's a sweet ride. Order the carbon intake manifold for the sound of brilliance!! Love the color combo.
Just a thought...find an early 2000's Land Cruiser, 4 Runner, or Sequoia, fix it up with overland stuff. Then drive it for a few months and flip for a profit.
I loved the design when they came out, still do, aging nicely. Nearly got into a 635d M Sport here in Europe back in the day. Only because I couldn't afford a M6!
Had an '08 M6, same color with the carbon roof. Sold it 4 years ago for 15k. It had 68k miles on it. About 50k miles is when all the problems started. By the time we sold it, it had the entire ABS/TCS system replaced, it was on its 5th battery. Throttle actuators both replaced (do the gear upgrade). Slave cylinder went - new clutch, flywheel. It killed an alternator. It really likes to eat the power window regulators. It was a great car when it worked.
The Carbon fiber roof was standard for the m6. The power button is to unleash the full +500 horsepower. Default startup mode is 400 horsepower. I had a 2010 m6 Silverstone metallic. I miss it soo much! The only major repair I had were the throttle actuators. I did have to service the differential but wasn't too major. All between 45k and under 55k miles. I think the thermostat was on its way out when I was selling it.
Great car, glad to see it getting some appreciation. The SMG is actually really good when you learn how to use it, for instance some say to lift ye thorttle shen shifting, but really you shouldn't as it confuses the computer (it learns your style). Always drive it in manual S5 mode too. If you can, before the swap to a manual transmission, try turning off all traction control as you can then out the transmission into S6 mods. It is brutal and loads of fun! Good to see some understanding about warming these, I drive mine under 3krpm until it warms to 75°c and then I'll use all the RPMs. Treat it like you would any exotic engjne and it makes sense.
This is a beautiful car. I do feel like this will gain in value given enough time. It will never be a viper, but the M6 badge does hold prestige. I've got a more modern 640i, and it's a beautiful car. Well fast enough, huge, comfy. I love it.
Beautiful car I have a 2007 with 208,000 on it so as long as you stay on path with the maintenance you’ll have plenty of awesome drive time on this vehicle. This is by far my most favorite car to drive.
I owned a 2007 Silver-Gray over Black M6 Coupe which I purchased as a CPO car. I drove it for two years and really enjoyed it but quickly came to the conclusion that I did not want to own it out of warranty. It remains the best sounding car I’ve ever owned and my (then young) daughter used to love going thru the Addison toll tunnel where I would wind it out in 2nd gear with the windows down.
I vote for the manual swap. I did a swap on an 06 M5 (car was reviewed in a 100percentjake video with his corvette). Worst part was finding the factory parts! Wiring diagrams are available via newtis and part numbers via realoem. Used a transmission out of an e92 m3 and had to have the driveshaft modified. Driving a V10 car with a 6 speed manual was well worth the effort in my opinion.
Just got a Silver 645i Convertible, black interior and with the M6 rims. Coupe is cool, but the Convertible is the best looking version. The car is unreal, looks like nothing else and the quality and ride is crazy good. One of the best cars ever made no doubt. You feel like a king driving this with the top down.
I LOVE the rear design and presence of these cars overall. When I rarely see them they always have a legit head turning ability like a much more expensive supercar.

As for the rod bearings and throttle actuators - consider this comment a third reminder to get those fixed ASAP!

Agreed with the title. Not just the M6 though, I bought a 650i recently and can't get enough of it. Great car.
Sold it when my kid was born and I couldn’t take care of it like I did before
Agreed, I’ve never driven one but they look iconic
Why does no big TH-camr buy a 6.1L hemi car? Started making them in 2005, 425 HP, few different options to pick from as for the car, and the bottom end is basically indestructible. One of the biggest hidden gems in the car world.
Love it Hoovie! Great choice! You are a manual swap and rod bearing replacement away from a supercar. (Plus wheel, CarPlay module, KW suspension, exhaust and bodykit)
And throttle actuators.
Bodykit? Ugh....
16:00 your still not in that fastest shift mode. Press DTC once and then you get a 6th shift mode that becomes available.
These cars are fantastic, Rod bearings and throttle actuators and these are very reliable. I’ve had mine for over 70k miles now with no issues but tires
You might want to check out those shells, you might not like what you see.
@@ChrisPatrick-q6k shells ?
Tyler, all bmw’s you should warm up till the temp gauge “floats” and then drive it to temp before slamming the gaspedal
I agree, this design wasn’t that bad. The 7 series is iffy, but these weren’t too bad imo.
Not as horrific as the newest 7 series for sure
As Jeremy said, the designer died right as he got to the back of the car.
The Bangle Butt on this model looks beautiful. Chris bangle finally got it right with this model
Definitely put a manual in it Tyler, what a beautiful car
I had a 2004 6 manual also, i loved that car, great gear and throttle response
@@kgiv3763 yup, start up, put in M mode and turn off traction control, then smiles for miles. Hahaha
These look so cool. Those taillights are so advanced for the time. Absolutely beautiful at night, and super distinctive!
Well, look no further than Sreten at M539, his manual E60M5 is now his favourite car, even topping the E39M5 which was his diamond.
Have daily driven my e63 M6 for the past 2 years and the car has been flawless. It's really aged like fine wine. As a long time sub, it makes me happy to see one getting some love on the channel. Might pick up a second M6 later in the year because I love it so much ;).
You need to push the m button on the steering wheel iirc, when they're not in M mode they have 400 hp and in M mode 507.
This isn't called the stupidest TH-cam channel for nothing. Congratulations Hoovie on your new BMW. I'm sure there will be much more content from this. You can always LS swap it if it goes too far south.
Next level for buying this car sight unseen.
Nice to see you back at it, Tyler. This might be an OK purchase!
With all the leaks.... I don't think he should wait.
hes in it for the money not the drive. might sound rude of me, but.... i would drive that gearbox til it died and then swap it.
I bought my 2007 E63 M6 in Scotland in 2011 my car is like new with 27 thousand miles on it currently. Same colour as your one Indianapolis Red. My car never goes out in bad weather and lives under a cover in a de humidified garage here in Ireland ! I always loved these !
This is a future classic for sure. And has good mileage. Mint condition! Don’t touch it, keep it as it is.
you can retrofit newer idrive systems into these generation bmws in a reversible manner if you want factory car play and a new screen with bluetooth natively speak to your car
I wonder which v10 is more unreliable, the m5/m6 with the v10 or the audi s6/s8 with the “Lamborghini” v10
BMW oil leaks come from the factory as standard,I’ll give it to ya fella that is a mint example 👍😉💪
I’ve heard the manual is not that “well matched” to the V10. I believe you can also swap the DCT from the M3 which is probably the best option
Yes Tyler this is a wise man. listen to his words. All of us want you to do the swap, it will be a way cooler car!
If I was ever so blessed to have money I would buy a 2000s V10 BMW and just do twin turbo LS swap. They look nice on the outside but I wouldn't want to mess with all that mess
@@jorgey4 I’d be over here making the V10 bulletproof if I had all the money in the world.
At best with the SMG its a 20k car. Not rare or valuable. So go ahead and do manual conversion, exhaust upgrade, Eventuri intake, etc.
@@jordanseay216but not all the $$ = LS3 swap send it 😊
I still remember seeing an E60 for the first time.
A manuell swap is gonna be insane!
Just a thought...find an early 2000's Land Cruiser, 4 Runner, or Sequoia, fix it up with overland stuff. Then drive it for a few months and flip for a profit.
That would make too much sense.
Sounds like you had one big issue that was never diagnosed or rather misdiagnosed until the end. Hate that even BMW mechs couldn't find the issue.
@@TBendez Yeah some electrical/electronics problem giving other issues for sure it sounds like. Especially alternator and battery is fishy...
Difficult and expensive to own, absolutely, but man, what a special engine.
None are left because even the car knew it should put ITSELF out of it's future misery. An out of warranty BMW is an endless money pit.
It doesn’t look too bad, but for the money I think I would look at other options.
take a shot every time Hoovie says "Bangle butt"
This is a beautiful car. I do feel like this will gain in value given enough time. It will never be a viper, but the M6 badge does hold prestige. I've got a more modern 640i, and it's a beautiful car. Well fast enough, huge, comfy. I love it.
I love how Johnny knows hoovie well and was worried when he saw another bmw
Would love to offer a replacement boot lid, taking the line of the rear lamps, maybe a vague boat tail…… it would hammer the boot capacity, but……. 🎉🇬🇧
Beautiful car I have a 2007 with 208,000 on it so as long as you stay on path with the maintenance you’ll have plenty of awesome drive time on this vehicle. This is by far my most favorite car to drive.
Hoovie i think i just had same issue as you went trought.Your videos and your positivity are actually helping me a lot to get trough it.
Love me some Hoovie!
Looks like a Buick LaCrosse and Pontiac Aztek got together and had an odd looking baby.
Mr. Hoovie is a master of one-handed camera control. The way he can talk, and then zoom in to the car all the same time.
It certainly has style, things always changing. Best wishes on the outcome
I'm sure you know how rare the wood trim is. Nice spec
carninja is such a cool and calm dude. respect
Put a exhaust on it, if it is straight pipe then it’s insane. If you dont want insane just dealete the mufflers
And do a resenstor dealete
Amazing selection of cars Hoovie. Best car collection ive ever. Watching your new cars is like Dreams come true to me.
Keeping all original parts and Ninja doing the swap and perhaps videoing it answers a couple of the few big questions.😎
The E63 M6 was my uncles attainable dream car for a long time and he got one a few years ago, 50k miles and super clean and he loves driving it
Just got a Silver 645i Convertible, black interior and with the M6 rims.
Ninja is a man whose work will never be replaced by AI, for what I like to believe are very obvious reasons.
I’m surprised nobody has designed an aftermarket trunk lid without the huge lip.
prediction - hoovie fixes this, drives it twice, parks it until next spring, fixes it again, then sells it for $30k
