I worked for Ferrari in Las Vegas when the first two US based media models of the 599 came into our shop. They needed them in town for some promo photo shoots, and they came somewhat incomplete. We had to stick badging and a few other trim pieces on them when they arrived. After a basic PDI, I needed to run it down to our contracted gas station to fill it up for the media team. Man, that car really was something special. In the 430 and 612 era, it was a very sharp car that drove extremely well. I always had a soft spot for that model after that, especially after seeing the media pics hanging in the dealership knowing that I stuck the "Pininfarina" badge on the side myself, lol.
He had the work done at Norwood, which is local to me (Dallas). They're a VERY good, VERY reputable shop. If we had pulled the trigger on the car we looked at a few years ago, they would definitely have been our go-to shop for it. I'd feel pretty solid about anything that you have one of their invoices for.
The 612 is pretty ugly and they still require the stupid belt services. 599 is definitely underrated, v12 better trans, and the beginning of Ferrari’s reliability. (Emphasis on the beginning).
@@theGermanXperience I personally love the looks and they’re a great drive and also, a really comfortable 2+2. I wouldn’t have an early 612 though, a 2008+ car is the one to have, OTOs had uprated gearbox, modern sat nav etc, much improved car

Great choice on the 599. As you said they did sell for six figure mark ups when they were new. They bottomed down to $120k about 5 years ago but they have been climbing back up. Ferrari dealers sell them used for $165k with about 12k miles
I know a guy that owned a manual 599. Said the car was awful and he had to get the trans fixed at least twice because it couldn’t hold the power. Ended up with an F12 and couldn’t be happier. The stick 599s are cool if you want to park one and just look at it.
Love the 599. However, looking at all of the collection I think we are WAY overdue for a driving day where you take each of them out for a drive. We miss them. I know I sure do!
I always did have a soft spot in my heart for these. The classic lines and the throw back grill and sealed beam headlights with round taillights the whole car is an art piece

I love to see hoovie buy cars he loves and he worked hard to get but on the other hand I as a viewer personally love when he buys interesting older cars that have been forgotten or older cars that he fixes up(or gets the wizard to fix up lol)
The picture of Schumacher beside his 599 @ 3:02 just goes to show you how special of a car these are. Truly the pinnacle of Ferrari GT cars one of the best!
Idk, maybe it's just me but for some reason i get way more invested seeing Hoovie buying old clapped out hoopties and fixing them up. Just like ( i can't believe I'm saying this) Samcrack is doing. Anyways, i still like you and the content you make, Hoovie.
@@BiggestSellout Yeah but i like to watch him working on those car's inside the horse stable with some strange rusty tools he's got lol. And tbh most youtuber's dont finish their projects like Tavarish. But i get the logistics behind those projects, especially with the shortage of parts and the leadtimes longer than the Chinese wall.
You're not alone. A lot of these more expensive cars, even if they are the "cheapest" one available, is having me either skip the videos entirely, or skip through the majority of the video to see if he talks about another car. He's losing what original made me subscribe all those years ago, and instead turning into just another luxury car youtuber. Even understanding that the market has changed since he originally started and a lot of the cars he used to buy are also just more expensive and collectable now, I'd still rather see them and am just tired of seeing "cheap" 6-figure cars. It's sad, because he started out with a fairly original idea and genuinely seemed to love a lot of the older quirky cars that didn't get much attention, and now he's turned into just another expensive car collector.
I'd keep this as is as you already have the 456 with the gated manual. Also makes it easier to drive as a daily. Plus the expensive clutch has been done.
I can't believe I'm agreeing with this as a gated manual would certainly make the car better, but I hate to see such an amazing car like that get modified for maybe a $50K bump in value? Like you said, he already has a gated 12 cyl. Ferrari. Why not manual swap the GT500?
Previous owner spent 50k over what he spent on it to drive it 2k miles. Those Ferrari purists are definitely a different breed. Daily that machine Hoovie!

@@john91z It comes from driving one. Like the horse in the logo, they have a spirit. They connect the driver to the road & give an experience along the journey. Sounds dumb, but it's actually true. BMW E30, E36, E46 & many M cars, Hellcat, Track Hawk, Jaguar XJR, Bentley's, Aston Martin's, Lamborghini's, Tesla Plaid, Corvette ZR-1's, Camaro ZL-1's, 911 turbo, Porsche SUV's, and so many other cars put their driver into a "feeling" as they use the car. Until you drive one you don't (and can't really) get it. When you drive one, you begin to pick up on it & then before you know it, it all begins to makes sense. For some it's wicked fast, extreme handling, or a Grand Touring experience. For others it's the waves and honks you get while driving it. Still others its the wild repairs and costly dues which you will pay. Being able to drop the top, and cruise around while listening to the song the engine makes when you take off; is your siren-song. When you have that experience, even as a passenger; it makes you accept some frequent & insane repair, maintenance, and even operating costs. $1500 in tires alone just as an example (that only covers one or two cars from my list above) as an annual maintenance issue. Is it a luxury item? Of course.
Honestly, I'd say a 599 with a manual conversion is going to be worth, erm, whatever you paid for the car plus the cost of the manual conversion. Point being, as long as the conversions are available nobody is going to pay a premium for a car that's already had the work done when they can pay to get it done themselves. I guess the best case would be for AMG to stop doing the conversions, which WOULD create a market for cars that'd already had the work done.
Sure, but getting the car converted is a hassle, requires driving or shipping the car to Texas, and comes with inherent risk. For something like this, most people would prefer to buy it having already been professionally done rather than having to source the job themselves.
@@herrbrahms But there is no guarantee am already converted car won't have issues. I'd say buying one of these hackjob garage built cars is arguably more of a hassle than maintaining the stock automatic transmission.
Definitely a premium for them. They don’t have the shop space to do a ton of these and it takes them a long time. Add on the costs to get it to and from Texas and it definitely adds a premium
@@herrbrahms Like I said, the value will probably reflect the cost of the conversion - including the expense of shipping etc. The way Hoovie was talking, though, it was like he's hoping a converted 599 will be valued somewhere between factory auto's and manuals. Gotta say, if I had the cash I'd DEFINITELY get the conversion done. AMG don't produce junk so the conversion isn't likely to cause problems and de-value the car. Also, there's a good chance AMG won't be doing these conversions forever and THEN the value of a converted car is likely to climb near that of a factory manual.
@@SiCrewe You are quite right, I won't expect manual conversions to be available for a "reasonable price" for anything more than 7-10 years. Cars like these will become within 20 years a collectors item to be enjoyed sparingly on paid closed roads or race tracks. They will become what horses have become after the advent of the car, so in that context of occasional driving enjoyment the 599 or any similar sporty vehicle will be more desirable as a manual, at least in the vast majority of drivers. Moral of the story: convert your old 'rrari to a manual as soon as possible.
Expensive Luxury/High Performance Manufacturer ---> Needs to recall the brakes on every car they've made in the last 2 decades. 🤔 You'd think they'd figure out how to setup a braking system before charging 6 figures for their junk.
Congrats on your new perfect Ferrari! As a viewer, however, I get more enjoyment out of your hoopty purchases. Let’s hope this responsible, prudent phase you are going through passes.
Great episode. Tyler is a TRUE organic car enthusiast. Most sports cars especially big V8 and V12’s are not great for daily driven. This car is excellent for a daily commute. Very impressed.
In my days as an agency driver, I regularly worked at HR Owen Sports Cars here in the UK. I got to take a few Ferraris of that era to and from the customers, including a handful of 599. I'd say I only like the exterior 80%. I still find the interior fussy looking, particularly the dashboard, despite the great smelling leather. With that said, the fact that is can seriously haul ass, yet be a comfortable daily driver the rest of the time makes it quite special. I quickly developed a soft spot for it. It's not something I would buy if I had the money, but the 599 is still one of my favourite cars I have driven (which is a lot). The colour of Hoovie's car is very similar to a BMW 5 series I delivered back to a customer one day. The owner commented to me how gorgeous it looked and how much they loved this "unique" colour. Before driving off with the car, everyone at the dealership was commenting how ugly they thought it looked, and who in their right mind would pick such a disgusting colour. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, I didn't have a bag to put over my head while driving it.
I love Hoovie, been a subscriber since he was below half a million and the days of the NSX. I’m happy for his success, I miss the Hoovie that I related to.
What a beautiful car. It's a shame the upkeep is so high on them. But you got one with what looks to be most of the expensive stuff done for now so quite a deal.
Audi’s Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) is an example, which is still optional on many of their RS models, and started with the 2007 RS4. It’s a fantastic suspension system but they do eventually leak and are expensive to replace.
I think a full garage/barn update is well overdue think a lot of us are struggling to figure out what’s still around and what’s left to fund the latest acquisitions!!
I drove a similar spec 599 years ago. It even had the tan/brown leather with carbon fiber and ceramic brakes. The exterior color was Grigio Fantastico or something, but otherwise similar.
I have owned mine for almost 10 years. It is an expensive car to service and repair compared to others I have owned. But a great fast and comfortable Ferrari.
I recently drove a 599GTB and unfortunately the transmission is pretty bad. I thought SMG-II was bad in my old M5. This was worse, and at one point the car almost stalled coming from a stop sign. And this car was from a local Ferrari dealer that had 2 others. I should've driven the other 2, but was really disappointed and decided to focus on finding an FF, instead. Engine is an absolute gem, though. That's where the money is.
When the 599 first came out a gentleman brought it to the Watkins Glen Vintage Grand Prix festival. During one of his laps of the old track he tried to goose it just past Milliken's Corner and the car ended up stalled out at the intersection of 4th and Franklin. Hilarity ensued as the computers could not figure out how to put the car back in neutral and 6 people were involved trying to bump start the car. Would be awesome to see the conversion process to a manual transmission if that's the direction you decide to go down.
I have to add a second comment. This is such a great story and really made me appreciate just how far Ferrari pushed the goals with the 599 of creating a truly great GT car that still let your know CLEARLY you were driving a Ferrari when you wanted to get your rocks off, lol. I had a friend that needed his 599 that he had driven to St. Louis back home to get prepped and ready for shipping out for his European tour a group of them were doing. He had to make an emergency trip to California and the car was dropped at a dealer to hold for him. He calls me up and says, “You are literally the only person I trust to bring that thing back. There are no trucks available to get it back to CT in time. I’ll get you a flight and a ride to the dealer where the car is. Will you PLEASE get that thing back home?? PLEASE!!!???” Well, shortly after calling him a total dork for thinking he, as a truly great long time friend, thought had to say please, I was on a plane to St. Louis. I grabbed the car the following morning with a full tank of gas and headed north to Connecticut. That car was an absolutely perfect balance of comfortable road manners and roaring badass all the way home and never gave even a remote impression that I was going to have any problems at all. I totally understood why he drove that car on long trips so often instead of just flying. The trip was an experience, not a boring drive all the way. I’ve seen quite a few 599 with a lot of miles on the clock and I absolutely get it. You can’t help but want to drive it all the time. The experience is just so fulfilling. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I've always loved the Ferrari 599. I understand its design was controversial at the time and many people hated it, but I've always found it to be much better looking than the previous 575M as well as the F12 Berlinetta that replaced it. It's just a shame so many of them came with that terrible sequential F1 transmission.
I love the 575M Maranello and Superamerica, but the 599 has to be my second favorite front 12 Ferrari of all time. Love the hunkered down hood, raised headlight assemblys, round tail lights, and flying buttress C pillar. Oh, and the heart of the almighty Enzo. Nothing but love.
The 599 is a great looking car, allot of styling Qs that you get on the 812 super fast, but just more dialled down and understated. Great buy. Not so much the cheapest in the USA, but top 10 I’d say.
The MR shock tech was developed by GM, but i doubt the part is exact fit to the C6 vette... as for the C4 suspension, that was done by Bilstein. And was shared with all C4 corvettes from about 1989 to 1996(?). There was a change in the suspension, but the shocks were all made by Bilstein, regardless. IIRC, the C5 used shocks by Sachs.
Tyler you have bought in my opinion one of the finest modern Ferrari’s that can be bought. The spec is out of this world!! Congratulations Tyler!!! Congratulations!!
Something that's been bugging me for years, what's with the huge rug in the garage? To prevent all the tire squeaks and marks maneuvering in the garage?
Shaking my head when he says 30-40 thousand mile is high mileage when I’m sitting in a a 2013 Caprice with 164,000 miles. I wish these high end cars focused just a little more on endurance. But it sure is a pretty car that sounds wonderful, congrats!
That, IMHO, is the problem with investment car collectors - they value pristine examples because they don't buy cars to use them, they're just garage queens. So nobody wants to really drive these exotic cars except for special occasions and even then only for short trips. Then add in the compromises of comfort made for the sake of performance and styling...
Your channel brings me so much joy and so many chilled out afternoons, you deserve a car like that, I hope you find many more rare stallions to fix and road trip with.
In the long line of beautiful Ferrari automobiles the 550, 575, 599 and 612 aren't it. I always thought the headlights completely ruined the look of the front of the car. The 599 GTO was a lot better, maybe a 6 speed swap and GTO conversion.
Awesome addition. You've really stepped up your game over the past couple of years. Garage question. Do you have a lot of drips coming from the cars on the upper rack landing on the lower cars? I'm not sure I'd trust that M5 not to leak on your 355.
Fortunately his lifts are solid across the whole bottom of the cars, so any drip would stay up there, or maybe collect and drop off a corner onto the garage floor if it was a big leak
When I worked downtown a decade ago there was this bright red 599 that drove by my window at 3:30pm a couple of times a week during the summer. Drove towards the hospital in my area - must be a doctor. Gotta be great Living Life Large!
Those invoices from Norwood - I use to know Bob Norwood. He does excellent work. He used to do twin turbo conversions for Testarossas and was the only person (in the world I believe) authorized to make P4 replicas licensed by Ferrari.
It's a good purchase Hoovie.🤑 Love the color combo!👌 And for all the commenters who will write they "can't relate to this car", keep doing your own thing Tyler. 🙂
I always thought the 599 looked chunky, and was not as cool as it could have been. Then I saw a 599 GTO in Austin during F1 week. Omg. Whooooo. They are so great in person.
Really never understood the point of doing a burnout unless it’s while racing a purpose built dragster. Why risk breaking something and taking tread off of expensive tires? Isn’t a burnout just for vanity? Aren’t burnouts much less gratifying if nobody was around to watch?
"$50,000 in service records over the last 3 years." I can't think of a better case to NEVER buy a Ferrari, no matter how big your bank account. I understand Enzo said when you buy a Ferrari you are buying an engine, we throw in the car for free, but for the price of the damn things I'd expect them to be the best, most reliable engines on earth.
I think down the line the definition of “best” shifted from reliable to technologically advanced, making simple reliable engines obsolete and new technologically advanced engines best. Hoovie mentioned this about the 575 quickly being outdated for this reason
I actually came into money recently. And have been looking at dream cars. And for this exact reason I won't buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini (least other then a Hurrican) Ed has to drop 90k to pull the motor from his Murci to MAINTENANCE it. Nope....
Exactly I try and imagine situations in terms of my potential net worth and at what point could I comfortably afford a Lamborghini or Ferrari. From research I’ve done is the budget anywhere from $10k-20k in maintenance alone…
I've been an avid viewer of yours for several years Tyler and I must admit to being concerned at the change in the value of your content in the past year or so. Although it is lovely to get a view and a (vicarious) ride in a car I will never be able to afford to buy, let alone pay the maintenance costs on, I am increasingly finding there is very little in your purchases that I can relate to any more. Divulging how much "cheaper" a vehicle is because of its milage etc and then dropping figures like a purchase price of $US130k just cannot and does not compare to the markets us average blokes revolve in - or what you used to be into dealing in either. Similarly, modifying the Ferrari with a manual gearbox, you mention the figure of $40k like it's a drop in the bucket and a no brainer. You said you're not into cars as investments, but I suggest you go back through your catalogue and view a few past episodes where you mention this exact thing as the reason you went through with the deal. The dual Lamborghini purchase was one of the first I recall it being said....and its been used often since. Do you remember that $40k is about the cost of a top-end brand new mid-to-large vehicle - even up as far as a top end Audi A3? Most of us consider dropping 40 large on a vehicle to be a significant spend. Similarly, some other vehicles that the Wizard has worked on have had some tremendous bills - most of which a reasonable 5-10 year old family car could be purchased with. I'm glad you can afford it - it is just hard to relate to. I am not jealous of your lifestyle and these are not sour grapes I am squeezing. I am truly impressed in the manner in which you have managed to set yourself up - pretty much for life - at such a young age and all credit to you for doing so. I love the looks of the beasties you have and hope you continue to be able to purchase these high-end vehicles. However, sounding grateful to your viewers in one sentence and then waxing lyrical about the beauty and exquisite finish of your newest toy in the next, just don't jibe in my opinion. These types of vehicles are not able to be purchased by the masses, whereas what you were videoing several years ago, they did. I understand that as the channel grew, so did your ability to engage your passion for more exotic vehicles. This is perfectly understandable, but at what cost to the channel when these expensive trinkets are all that we see? The channel's focus appears to have changed and it seems to be more about the money than the car and its life in your hands nowadays. I'll continue to watch in hope your focus returns more toward to your humble beginnings and I do hope you understand that I'm not being nasty, but trying to point you back toward what drew me to the channel in the first place - your sense of humour, your love of hoopties and the wheeling and dealing within that end of the market. If you choose to stay in the price and exotic segment you are in currently, well, I suppose the season is over and I will move on. All the best.
I would agree, its great seeing them grow, but when they get big and rich, they lose the essence of what, hat made them fun in the first place. I can think of a couple of channels like that.
yea I agree, he's like it's only 130k, I'm like damn. Even with the Bentley bentayga he bought, he said the cheapest and it's still in nice shape around 100k. That's like me saying, look I got this cheap lamborghini hurcan for only "160k"
Hoovie's formula never gets old. I couldn't click fast enough when I saw the 599. Always been one of my favorite Ferrari's. Congrats Hoovie!! Keep em coming
I love your videos and I am a long time subscriber but Ferrari parts and maintenance prices are simply ridiculous. There is no way on earth they can justify their prices for components, especially as they are not particularly well built… It’s a blatant rip off!
yeah how does a 2010s car with 30k on it have AC problems... sticking switches... and then the ferrari fanboys go buy replacement switches for $$$ which will just have the same problem. A fool and their money are easily parted. Then again, as long as you dont think of Ferrari as a car company, but rather as a racing team which hustles stupid rich people so they can go have fun on the track, its a lot easier to swallow. Italian Robin Hood "We rob from the rich... so we can race at the weekend"
Ferrari is a business. The parts costs what most of their customers can easily afford. They'd be stupid to make them cheaper and lose money just so they aren't called a "rip off" by us peasants who will likely never own one anyway.
When you want to go fast reliably with a brand name like Ferrari you pay the price. Remember this isn't a Kia putting about at 3500 rpm add 5000 rpm and 3 times the cylinders and you get an idea why it's so much money to maintain.
It's a status symbol for Wall Street types whose success is often fleeting as they tend to get dumped when the market tanks like the stocks or cryptocurrencies they sold at inflated prices
To be honest. I also think the V12 Ferrari cars, excluding the LaFerrari, the FXXK and the Enzo, are underrated and i also think they are the best Ferrari cars, despite a few ones being pigs. To be specific. The best ones are from the Ferrari 456 to the 599. Also taking part are the 330 P4, 512 S & M, the 365 GTB4 and the F50. Those times when the V12 still was the norm for Italy

Love how Tyler justifies the maintenance costs. Makes sense if you have the $$
The fact that he is trying to justify those costs ..almost like he will say.. but it's a Ferrari..To me it makes you wonder why anyone would buy one.

Congrats on your new perfect Ferrari! As a viewer, however, I get more enjoyment out of your hoopty purchases. Let’s hope this responsible, prudent phase you are going through passes.
The gear box on that car is a piece of art, please do not change it. The sound in acceleration going thru gears is beautiful.

Lc500 is on my car dream list too
What a beautiful car. It's a shame the upkeep is so high on them. But you got one with what looks to be most of the expensive stuff done for now so quite a deal.
GM developed magnetic ride suspension, the first sports car to use it was Corvette, and now Ferrari and all sorts of exotics use this technology.
An absolute bargain.
Also 996 turbo , insane performance for the money .. that's a hoovie car
I drove a similar spec 599 years ago. It even had the tan/brown leather with carbon fiber and ceramic brakes. The exterior color was Grigio Fantastico or something, but otherwise similar.
The spec on this 599 is so good! Lovely!
That's my all time favorite Ferrari.... My god hoovie congratulations

I have owned mine for almost 10 years. It is an expensive car to service and repair compared to others I have owned. But a great fast and comfortable Ferrari.
Lucky. I am but a lowly peasant whose dream car (that I do infact own) is a mk1 Golf
The angle when he first gets in his garage is giving me R35 vibes.
Shout out Hoovie you one of the realest to do it
When the 599 first came out a gentleman brought it to the Watkins Glen Vintage Grand Prix festival.
I love this car, one of my favorites all time! Would cruise that car around the country if I could, with a smile on my face.
Why mod it? You'll own it for a year, drive it a couple of thousand miles, and then sell it. Looks great on the inside.
Nice car, lovely location
You are probably the only TH-camr thay I could watch everyday.
Love all your videos man!
The F12 is the most beautiful modern Ferrari. I don't really like the 599/612 design.
Sweet looking ride! Feels like it's sporty, high quality, and wants to be driven rather than babied.
The 599 was the very last V12 Ferrari you could get with a manual transmission
Something that's been bugging me for years, what's with the huge rug in the garage? To prevent all the tire squeaks and marks maneuvering in the garage?
Probably for at least some sound control. It echoes pretty bad in there.
It's decorative. He's pretending to be fancy.
The rug really tied the room together.
Then add in the compromises of comfort made for the sake of performance and styling...
i love seeing how much you love this car bro its so awesome to see how far youve come

Great car with amazing spec. Congrats Tyler, loved the Diablo but this is just better

Agreed. It's ridiculous. Spend all that money only to have 50K in repairs? Bizarre. These things are basically lemons.
I actually came into money recently. And have been looking at dream cars. And for this exact reason I won't buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini (least other then a Hurrican)
Ed has to drop 90k to pull the motor from his Murci to MAINTENANCE it.

Exactly I try and imagine situations in terms of my potential net worth and at what point could I comfortably afford a Lamborghini or Ferrari. From research I’ve done is the budget anywhere from $10k-20k in maintenance alone…
@@MrMrbrianbechtel Wise ! If you dont want your money any more !
That's like me saying, look I got this cheap lamborghini hurcan for only "160k"

yeah how does a 2010s car with 30k on it have AC problems... sticking switches... and then the ferrari fanboys go buy replacement switches for $$$ which will just have the same problem. A fool and their money are easily parted. Then again, as long as you dont think of Ferrari as a car company, but rather as a racing team which hustles stupid rich people so they can go have fun on the track, its a lot easier to swallow.

@@MikeKayK sad, but most definitely true 🤷🏻♂️
When you want to go fast reliably with a brand name like Ferrari you pay the price. Remember this isn't a Kia putting about at 3500 rpm add 5000 rpm and 3 times the cylinders and you get an idea why it's so much money to maintain.
It's a status symbol for Wall Street types whose success is often fleeting as they tend to get dumped when the market tanks like the stocks or cryptocurrencies they sold at inflated prices
