We just got this charger for my dads brand new 2023 Kia Niro EV. Our electrician will be here in a couple of days to install it. But it’s a 48 amp hardwire model.
Please keep us posted on how the wallbox works for long term especially during the winter months where you guys live. It failed State of Charge video the deep freeze test for the cable. I want to get a wallbox. I'm down south it gets down to 32⁰ to 23⁰ where I live so I'm hoping that the cable is pliable to movement in the wintertime for usage in the mornings. If you can let's us know in your next videos how its working for you guys that would be great! Thanks for the continued great content.
I just bought one of these. I'm excited to use it but with the supply chain issues it might be a while before I can get it wired up. Mine didn't come with a cable to connect to a wall and I'm having it installed outside anyway.
Hello, checking to see how this charger has been treating you. Have you used it off wifi and can you control the amperage through the app while just on wifi?
@@EVMotoring thank you, I won't have a wifi signal to it so I worry that it won't charge when it needs an update. I was also hoping to only connect via Bluetooth and lower the amperage during the day then increase it while in bed
@@TheJuggernoob1 no, it doesn’t do that but you should be able to set that on your car. It does let you remotely change the speed, start time, and stop time so I used to use all three of those to have it finish right before I leave in the morning so the battery is warm and ready to go.
Looks nice and small but I’m worried about the plastic mounting plate and the rest of the box attached to this plate with two tiny screws. The cables can be very heavy and over time, the plastic plate may deteriorate and crack etc
@@EVMotoring Still a socket has a greater chance of failure with prolonged use. Heat and resistance is your enemy. You will regret it. I am an EE. Any electrician will tell you the same thing.
why set the dial for max amp if the app will do it? Also is there a way to set car profile and tell it to just charge to 90% or do you have to do that in the car itself?
Im in the process of buying a electric car now, and i have no knowledge what-so-ever with electricity. Im getting the Mini SE which i believe can accept 40 amps? If i get this charger and plug it into my 240 outlet do i need to change the ampage or is it pretty much plug and play? I dont want to ruin the car, any advice to help me understand better would be appreciated. Also my garage is most likely out of range of my wifi, i could get an google point to extend the range, but would the app still work if there was no wifi, or does it need to be on the same network?
I use a mesh router system to extend the coverage to the garage/yard. As long as you have a 50 amp breaker, 40 amps of charging is fine. The charger should always be set to 80% or less of what the breaker is.
Does your breaker board have the capacity to replace the 40A breaker with a 50A breaker? If so, you can swap the breaker and set the charger to 40A and, if need be, charge significantly faster.
Are you supposed to use a 40A or 50A breaker on this wallbox. Looking at the wallbox site it seems to say 50A Thanks . Great vid by the way
50 amp

i got the same one. Installed in September. Still waiting on my car though.

Will do! The cable definitely gets stiff in cold temps. I just plugged it in at 10 degrees yesterday
Thanks for the video is there an on and off button like for when your not using it or do I have to take out the plug 🔌 every time
I would recommend having a switch wired in if you would like to completely turn off the unit
Does it have the ability to set up multiple vehicle accounts so you can see what each separate car is consuming?
After having it this long, what are your thoughts on it? Any changes? Getting mine this weekend, thank you!
I just love all the data the unit provides since most EV’s don’t.

I hope you enjoy it! So many great features in the app!
Hello, checking to see how this charger has been treating you. Have you used it off wifi and can you control the amperage through the app while just on wifi?
It’s a great unit! I frequently use the app to adjust amperage so the charge finishes right before I leave for the day.

Joe, can you suggest an electrician to install 240 service in Evanston area?
Unfortunately I do not know of one in the area. Sorry
Can you set a charge limit?
Yes, the app has lots of features including charging speed
@@EVMotoring Thanks for the reply! To clarify, could I set an 80% limit?

It seems like a good product, but only time will tell.
Why not hardware and get 48 amps? Faster charge rate. Less chance of failure point.
My Tesla only charges at 32 amps

I enjoy your videos. What made you buy this unit vs EA charger for the same price?
This unit has adjustable power and tracks energy usage
Can you tell if I can use it outside on my driveway? Thanks
Yes, it is one of the most weather resistant chargers on the market. It can withstand a direct blast from a garden hose

The charge limit must be set on the car itself. I set the dial for the max that my circuit can handle so I accidentally don’t request too much power.

Any issues with your vw id 4
I sold it after 40k ish miles and it was great!

I’m just on a 100 amp panel so unfortunately no. Even at the current charging rate though I still have no problem charging the car overnight
@William Lusby thanks I will look into this
Has this box been reliable long term?
Yes, I’ve been very happy with it. I like being able to adjust the amperage with the app so I can have the charge finish right before I unplug
What if you have to install this in a condo garage with no LTE available.
It also works via Bluetooth
@@EVMotoring I mean for mandatory firmware updates
@@BB0YMatty The Wallbox has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, no LTE. Updates likely come via WiFi.
Does the app can show how much kwh you have charged?
Yes it’s very comprehensive
Can it be hardwired?
Yes it can and the hardwired version can charge at 48 amps (60 amp circuit)
I’m in Australia and my app is very different to yours.
Great video. Thanks!
Enjoyed the info thanks so much
Good information. Great video.
Very nice

With all respect, you didn't install anything. All you did was plug the thing in and mount on the wall.
