Just to say that I absolutely love your vlogs. You are such a lovely couple! My husband and I are planning to sell our business in three years and to also have our own narrow boat built, like you did. (Otherwise we’ll argue over which boat to buy)! So you are of particular interest to us and we love love love your boat. We want ours to be light and airy too. I have a thing about spiders so old and a bit dingy wouldn’t be right for me.
My next comment is to all my follow followers of your channel..... I just want to remind everyone to always let the ads run through. Our lovely foxes don’t get a penny from an ad that’s been skipped. It doesn’t cost us anything and if we’re mindful of ‘not skipping’ then every little bit helps. And if we want our lovely vloggers to keep vlogging then we know what we have to do. Same with the thumbs up, hit it on every vlog! Subscribing is really helpful too. I try to back all of my favourite vloggers, I don’t want to lose them. Our youtubers deserve so much more for all of their hard work, (you have no idea how much hard work and research etc goes into a vlog). I value youtubers far higher than these greedy overpaid celebrities on mindless mainstream tv! So come on everyone... let’s show our handsome foxes some 💕 xxxx

You’re so welcome, and thank you for your reply! We are indeed extremely excited, but it seems so far away! Wish I could just fall asleep for the next three years...I honestly am wishing my life away! Oh well, never mind. I just keep telling myself that as time goes by, the business should just hopefully keep growing so that the money pot in theory should be a bit bigger, But we would sell up tomorrow if we could ! Oh well, We will just have to watch you two lovely guys having all the fun for now. Xxxx

Cobble (or cobblestone) are the rocks that used to be used for ballast for ships when they didn't have cargo to carry. Without cobble, the top hamper would be too high and cause the square-rigger sailing vessel to either list or turn turtle. Many ports had roads that were paved with cobblestones when there was a large imbalance of trade, so they arrive loaded with cobblestones and leave with cargo, so they made good use of the cobblestones by paving the streets. Many American port cities had cobblestone streets (really rough roads) because for many years, we shipped lots of cotton back to England and other areas.

Firstly, just Incase I haven’t said it; beautiful narrowboat.
Second, rough day at work. In a terrible mood and felt truly knocked down emotionally until I checked TH-cam and saw that you’d released a new video. Total turn around! Flopped on the bed and started watching! Lovely videography and dazzling drone work. Colin, you have a knack for conveying historical information in an interesting and eloquent way. What a nice gift. And kudos to the steely-eye steersman, Sean. Navigating a craft that’s 7 or 8 times as long as it is wide through narrow, twisting waterways and tunnels without doing damage. Well done skipper!

I don't know what you mean it's 4 p.m. it's just after 8 a.m. I had to watch this before I headed off to work thanks for the morning smiles. Like a lot of things people forget what the purpose of the canals were originally for. How many millions of tons of cargo we removed on those canals? Even today the most efficient way of moving cargo is by water.

Love watching these, I’m catching up on oldies I missed. I imagine cobble hurling is the same as road bowling, but with cobblestones instead of cast iron balls. So this guy goes into a butcher shop on the Yorks/Lancs border and asks for a pig’s head, so the butcher calls in to his assistant in the back, “one pig’s head, Fred”. After a while, the customer says “can you make that a Lancs pig’s head?”, and the butcher calls out “Take the brains out, Fred!”.

You're right about the industry, the muck and the brass. People nowadays think narrowboating is about floating slowly through the green countryside, but the canals were built to provide the infrastructure for the Industrial Revolution. Roads were hopeless then, and the railways were still 60 years off. The canals connected the country, especially Brindley's Grand Cross. It was all coal and iron and limestone, cotton and pottery. It must have been a very hard life.

Cobbles, most of the roads and street around the mill towns were cobbled, squarish pieces of stones, or sets. The nicks between the sets were filled with ash or similar with tar sealing the top of the nicks. When we were kids if we had a cold our mother would get us stand near the tar waggon and breath in the hot melted tar fumes, supposed to clear a cold. Still here at 80 odd so it didn't do us much harm.

One of the benefits of your vlogs is gaining a better appreciation of the various parts of your wonderful country. It brings them more to life for me. I've read about Hannah Hauxwell who lived in North Yorkshire and I've also enjoy TheTaxiDriver's channel as he walks through your various countrysides. With all these sources of information I'm delevoping apretty good feeling of what life must be like there. Thanks.
One thing I've wondered is whether your boat has anything like "bow thrusters" that would allow you to turn the front of the boat easier. Shaun makes it look so easy. I notice he is always looking out on both sides and the front. Good captaining Shaun! Carry on you guys.

Looking forward to your vlog on the scenery of Yorkshire! This tunnel episode reminded me of the first time I ever had to take our boat up the canal on my own , my husband was in a play ! Maiden voyage following some friends. When we came to the Islington tunnel they reassured me by saying just follow us we’ll guide you ! Pah ! I entered the tunnel and couldn’t see a thing , their boat blocked the light at the end of the tunnel and I ricocheted from one side of the brick s to the other ! Not exactly a scenic route or one that inspires confidence, anyway am still here!

I love the old mills,Martin of course keeps my viewing time busy there, but to preserve them in today's world means, gasp!,going into flats or offices etc. And I like how you cover the canals into Liverpool, Manchester etc. These areas have a hard working and yes gritty history, but that is the point.
