      Memory cards / Cartridges has always been the superior technology. Sturdier, and it is able to pack more data and uncompress it at higher speeds.
      Game industry decided to abandon it because production costs tho, discs are cheaper.
      But since this is a very optional accessory, and also a custom SSD, they can compensate the cost of production with the price and by not making too much of them.

      The next gen games will only run off the new NVMe storage, either the internal or the expansion.
      Older generation games can run off traditional external, and in terms of value for money, is recommended to do so.
      However to make the most of that limited fast space for the newer games, you can transfer them off to your traditional external hdd, it will store them, just not run them directly.

      On the Linus shaming himself video, he said that using ssd will decrease the size of games bc before in HDD when reaching for a texture in a scene developers had to put multiple times the same code for the game to be able to show the entire scene. Now with ssd the game has nearly instant access to any texture or figure and therefore there is no need to duplicate multiple times the same thing.

Before a 1tb would be another brick on your desk and now more reasonably is a wallet sized card... however the read and write speed of an nvme is crazy fast! I actually like being able to use batteries like that. It allows you to just quickly swap batteries in the middle of a long play session instead of having to stop to charge or pick up another controller. Plus, if your rechargable batteries lifespan come to an end, you can just buy more and switch them in. Unlike other solutions that have a Lithium-Ion battery you can't easily replace.

    • @teejaytv3821
      @teejaytv3821 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me the problem isn’t that you need batteries for the controller because it’s honestly a good idea
      That way you have different options on how to power your controller
      The problem is that it’s 2020 and we still have to buy extra things just for our controller to work
      PlayStation has had a built in battery since 2006 there’s no reason why it’s 2020 and the Xbox doesn’t attest come with a play and charge kit

    I really hope that when gen4 pci-e nvme SSD's start dropping in price those expansion cards will too, no way in hell would I pay that much when the price of just the expansion card is the same as my 2tb one S.

    • @dizzer182
      @dizzer182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a PC gamer, the price of the card is very reasonable for the performance. You also don't need that expansion card to store your games on. You can use an external for all Xbox One and older games. The Series X games are the only ones that require the new NVMe storage to run off of.

    • @420Cris
      @420Cris 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dizzer182 currently yes it is, but in a year or two pci-e 4 SSD's will likely start dropping in price the same way M.2's did after they were on the market for a while, if the expansion card doesn't also get a price drop then PS5 owners will be paying significantly less for storage expansion since it just uses standard pci-e 4.0 SSD's. I know that not all the games need to be stored on a fast SSD, but in that year or two time there will be a lot of games for the Series's and they will likely be pretty big with how large games have been getting, I have a 500gb dedicated games ssd on my PC and I can literally only fit 4 games on it because they're so damn big, imagine having a series S and after you install 5 games you have to either settle for slower speeds on every other new game you want or cough up $200 to install 10 more games (obviously excluding small indie games).
