They work well for the money. I installed these type of Radio’s in 2 Ford Work Vans I own. One a 2003 E350 and the other a 2000 E150. They haven’t let me down at all and it’s been 3-4 years already that they have been mounted in them. Not as good as my Kenwoods I put in other vehicles but I have no complaints.
I don’t know what happened to my second reply here for those asking many questions about installing either this Double Din Receiver or any other brand in one of the later cars built in the 2000’s. Not every car can this radio be installed into without a interface. The interface is required to communicate with the computer in todays cars in order for them to work correctly. Trust me I installed many Car Stereo’s over the years going back to the late 1960’s until present. I mention above about installing this Receiver with CarPlay into 2 Ford work Vans above that I still own. They were easy. Just a factory harness adapter to fit both Vans and a file to the dash and they looked like they were installed from the Factory. No interface required on those 2 Vehicle’s made in 2000 and 2003. I made them also open up with the Ford Motor Company Insignia in the 7” Screen of the Radio upon Start Up not mentioned here. This radio has that Capability and can do other makes. I also installed 4 Kenwood Double Din 7” Receivers. 2 were installed in other Ford Vehicles. One a 2000 Mercury Marquis and one a 2007 Mustang. Neither of these 2 vehicles required a Interface either. They easily connected with a factory wire harness adapter for the stereo to be wired to the stereo wiring like the other vehicles I did then they plugged right into the factory wiring on the vehicle. The last two were also Kenwood 7” Double Din Receivers that I installed into a C5 and C6 Generation Corvette. These vehicles required a Interface to connect and talk to the factory computer. Without a interface they can’t be installed properly in those cars. Hopefully this post will stay up for those who care to read it for their benefit when installing a replacement receiver in their car. My suggestion find out if your car needs a Interface. Usually if you deal with Crutchfield they will tell you online what is needed for your vehicle.

Yeah have the same problem with my 08 Nissan titan. Radio isn't fitting my dash kit I purchase. Might consider doing what you did! Thank you for this video!
There is no impedance mismatch problem just as long as the speaker wires are not shorted together. Car stereos are designed for 4 or 8 ohm speakers. An open circuit will have infinite resistance, so no current flow, so output amplifier is safe.

Purely out of curiosity, I've bought the cheap Chinese radios before from Amazon and Ebay... Their version of "double din" isn't the same as name brands like Sony, Pioneer and Kenwood. So unless you buy the install kit directly from a company in China, you'll always have to modify the part of the install kit that the radio fits through.

Just for curiosity, what was wrong with the factory radio? Mine hates sudden temperature changes, especially heat. Eject doesn't work, and some of the face keys won't work. If I park my car in the shade in the summer, and keep a heat lamp inside if below 20⁰, everything works fine. I keep a towel to cover my dash if I park in the sun and crack my windows.
The display would go out, I would have to tap it 20 times or so for it to go back on, and it would stay for a while. A lot of work to keep a 14 year old radio going..

I would not recommend an aftermarket radio without it.
@@retrotechandelectronics well what's it actually called? Like what would I search for specifically lol thx for your quick response btw
If I have a manual civic would the camera work
it would work on the backup switch I would think when in R
@@retrotechandelectronics yeah. I was able to get it to work.
Where can I get the wiring harness adapters and antenna adapter for my pontiac g5?
I see them on Ebay and Amazon.
What i like though was your detailed oriented explanation and installation tricks. I was impatient and tried trimming the din kit with drammel and did a awful job. Well lack of patience. Thank you you learned a few tricks i being a DIY guy👍🏻😎
Glad it helped
What is the adapter wire called that I need? The one that plugged into the factor clip and to the radio? Probably a stupid questions but I have no idea what I’m doing here
Its a control module with an interface cable, I believe I called it out in the video.... Its not optional for this car.
Mine turns on goes to radio screen for about 2 seconds then shut off? I have only Black (ground), yellow (B+ power supply) and orange (Parking) connected. Any thoughts? I would really appreciate some help. Thank you for the video.
I found that out the hard way.
Seriously i have just got one of these and been searching hours for the fitting of even basic stuff and the one i bought came up!!! Amazing ha ... sounds thick but do i take the old harnesses out ?? im no good at this and have nobody to help me, its going in an off road discovery
2 things! I want a leather or vinyl boot for my emergency brake handle, I dislike the massive plastic piece!!! I have a 07 G5 & when I installed my 4G wifi cd/DVD/mp3 & every other option 2 din, it was a nightmare finding a interface that works! I went to Crutchfield & their pac 3 kept shorting out, I ended up getting a Walmart interface but, None of the dabs system works! No turn signals or indication chimes but, the radio works! What interface works (radio & dabs) on 07 models?????
I posted the interface in the video.... Thats the only interface for such a setup.
@@retrotechandelectronics Your Cobalt is a 08, my G5 is a 07...07 & 08 have differences from the 06 & older models! (Automatic transmissions from older models will not work!) Anywho, with the Scosche GM13sr (2004-up GM 11-Bit Lan sterio interface), Does everything work properly, the turn signal ding, & all other notifications from the BCM & the dabs unit? I Purchased several! One from Crutchfield, & 2 others from the internet, then after all had their issues, (the cheaper unit from Crutchfield) it did work but, it would short out constantly, I meant to return it but, working nightshift Nothing is open when I get out of work so, I kept forgetting to return it....ended up getting a interface from Walmart but, the chimes from the dabs unit, do not work! Another issue that I am having is, the radio not shutting off with the key/opening the driver door! I know the basic wiring kits w/out a interface come with a separate power wire to run to the fuse box. Does that scosche have a switched power out? I must manually turn my radio off or run the battery dead.
@@retrotechandelectronics Are you saying, thats the only interface that works properly on the 07 & up Cobalt, G5, HHR, Ion & Vue? Because, there are many interfaces that claim to work on these vehicle's & I tried several! The cheaper unit from Crutchfield did work properly until I made a turn, I should take it apart & find the short but, I will order the Scosche gm13sr. I wish I would have seen this video much sooner, Could have saved 💵!!!
My only question about the radio itself is, is it Bluetooth as well??
Yes it also has bluetooth, though ive tested it, i never use it.
Hey man. Another question. Do you know if it has xm radio as well?
i've been waiting for this tutorial that shows how to run the wire for the camera through the lisence plate, thanks
No problem!
Thought about getting this unit, but it only has FM radio but no AM radio. Gotta have my talk radio.
I get all that through 5g now...
Just got your comment . Thanks . About to choose a radio and probably go with Walmart again .
Glad I could help
Nice wiring job very clean work👍
Thanks 👍
this was damn near the best how to video on youtube. exactly what i was looking for. thoroughly enjoyed this video, thank you sir!
You're quite welcome.
How did you connect CarPlay with your phone, mine just says connecting...
Is the config SET to autoplay?
Nicely done 👍🏼😎
Thanks
thanks for the video, do you think that in a cobalt 2006 ls have to do the same procedure.
If the 2006 has the same centre console, it should be similar.
Hi question what Is that computer box called or computer harness called I've been looking for it to get my radio installed and I don't know what that part's called The little box in the video
I’m fairly certain the model was mentioned in the video
I got the same unit, but for some reason it resets every time i start rhr car on the radio at thr 85.7 and it start doing that annoying no signal sound, does anybody have any fixes for that?
Did you wire power correctly, sounds like ignition and batt are crossed.
@@retrotechandelectronics i used the same wires from.the old stereo just plugged them into the new device since it fitted
I did mines but for some reason my carplay music works but i can also always hear an extra station of the radio in the background
Interesting, never heard that one before. Check your grounding.
Does your key fob work still with the new radio
I do not have a fob, old school
Hey, I am not the smartest of people, but i have a question about the soldering part, im looking at ebay at a gm13sr and it has rca cables, is that normal? and radio harness would best kits2102 radio harness work? i have no idea what i am doing
Does the info center still work after the installation?
Yes.
A lot of work to keep a 14 year old radio going..
great install
Thanks.
Can u link the harness
which harness the digital box?
@@retrotechandelectronics nevermind I got everything wired in but thank you
