I do believe in spinal health. 65 and i suffer from low back pain, diag as arthritis in the two lowest spaces of my spine. I never know when it will flair up. I’m in very good health otherwise, I workout fairly regularly, not overweight, eat and drink in moderation. I have started my mornings with a routine of hanging from a bar with just my body weight to stretch my back. I am up to about 80-90 seconds. It feels great so I will follow that with these squats.

I'm almost 79 years old. I can't squat that low. "Horror scope" Excellent term.
Spine needs to stretch each day. Keep feet together in Yoga Namaskar for upsurge of energy. I can do 7 with feet together. WOW! Next best is to keep feet in line with shoulders. I got to 21!

@drphilgardner did you have any underlying back issues or just general back pain?

    • @drphilgardner
      @drphilgardner ปีที่แล้ว +16

@@adilabibou About fifteen years ago I pinched a nerve in my back. The doctor told me that there was nothing he could do about it. So, I have lived with a chronic, mild back pain. However, since starting the exercise (every morning - 21 deep knee bends with my hands clasped together over me head) my pain has disappeared. Also, my posture has improved and, instead of being a hunched over old man (I'm 69) I stand erect. I think that the exercise strengthens the back muscles. The best way to explain it is to compare my back with an elastic band, Over time, an old, well-used elastic band loosens and gets flimsy. The back exercise reverses this "loosening" and, as I walk around these days, I feel like my spine (the elastic band) has been tightened and propels me to walk erect with good posture.

I've had a slipped disc (L4/L5) since 24 due to overloading a squat bar to impress. What a tool! Now 54 still have debilitating episodes every couple of years. Though one thing I've always done is random squat sets or always ensuring my hams are resting on my calves if I bend down for some reason. Also I hunker a lot to play with the dog, garden or clean up before my better half sees the mess i made cooking. Squatting as much as you can is in our dna.

I’m 37 now and I don’t regularly workout in a gym, but I’ve found creative ways at work and at home to exercise and even when my wife and I go on shopping trips I enjoy squatting to get items we need as many times as I can. It’s like a cheat code way to get some good, deep squats in. 😅
That said, I plan to start this immediately! I’m excited about this journey.
In conjunction with this learning about how to keep a healthy gut or get your gut healthy helps with intelligence as well!

ok, I never did yoga, but I always said and did is ... cleaning the house perfectly in any corner, from the hidden to the top ones.
I'm 61, and no one can believe how flexible and strong my body stays. I always thought that yoga is more a spiritual way to manage life and didn't go deep on it.
but I still think that all is needed to stay in form and healthy is TO CLEAN PROPER YOUR HOUSE, from below the sink in the kitchen, wher you may have to bend like an acrobat, to cleaning lamps and chandelier stretching yourself to the highest top ...
and it works. and not only it works, but you will also very delighted to see your house very clean.
thank sadguru, it is always a pleasure to hear your explanation.

      Being competitive isn't loving.
You want to prove you are better than him.
That attitude will keep you in lower vibration, and not in a good place.

One of most important excercise to strengthen legs. All atheletes, football players, people going to Gyms etc do it.
If young or quite fit, take weights/dumbells in hands & then do it. Will make legs stronger.

Use to do likely practice because of I got my hip changed to one of titan, artros. Can’t go too low because the transplanted hip can jump out. Didn’t have a clue about these benefits.🤠

The SQUAT -- yes, thanks for the reminder.
BTW: It may be full of horror but it is not a horrorscope -- it is called a horoscope.

Lovely idea - I am 76yo with two hip replacements - will doing partial squats still benefit me? thank you - I cannot go down all the way into a squat anymore - but certainly do what my body allows - hope it will still help.

Any exercise movement is good no matter the range you can do. But squeeze your muscles as you do it. Make sure you've got something beside you for support. There's great channels on youtube for elderly fitness..

How to do that squatting? Please demonstrate it. How do you rise and push up both arms? From the front or the back? Some bending down some don't. Which is correct? Not clear at all. Not clear!
