  • 23-year-old Devika, who was once just a daughter, is now the head of the family, shouldering the responsibility of looking after her six siblings. Both her parents died due to COVID within just 10 days during the second wave.
Devika has five sisters and one brother. The youngest member of the family is her 4-year-old brother. When I asked her how her sisters and brother were dealing with the loss of both their parents, she said she had not yet told her three youngest siblings about it. For now she has told them that they are at the family village undergoing some medical treatment

While commenting on public platforms, please try to raise girl’s morale.. What if this girl is reading your comment?! What if her parents were not actually pursuing a male child but they were having kids only because they love children?! Private hospitals are ruthless because that's a business... That's why every country needs a proper government health care system... Covid has shown that how relying on private hospitals mostly for healthcare is disastrous.. Though Indian government hasn't learned anything from that.
By the way, what doctors told her is right... Covid has no medicine and treatment is only symptomatic.. As she went to the hospital beyond her means, it has given rise to misgivings that her mother didn't survive... But that doesn't mean that she didn't get proper treatment.

@JitzyJT state government is responsible for health but the budget is allocated by Centre. All national health programmes are central. Individual state can do well, but that doesn't mean responsibility for other states are not to be taken. I haven't exactly pointed who is at fault in my previous post so don't make it a state vs centre issue here.
Southern states also have scopes of improvement in great ways. These states also have a thriving, profit driven private health care too that caters most of the people.

Don't be so absurd. Having 7 kids just for a baby boy might not be the brightest decision. But Raising 7 kids is affordable by their parents tho I personally don't like that idea. They were over charged by the hospitals, robbing their savings that too with poor medical facilities. Remember we are talking about 2nd wave, even with the predictions, resources and money, govt couldn't stop it rather It didn't try to stop it. Rallies, meetings, religious gatherings and directly cheating public with false stats. They lost their lives bcz of govt's incompetence. Taking care of people is govt's duty, especially at times like these with all the predictions you need and yet govt left it's people to die. Govt failed at its one and only job and yet you guys have the audacity to blame the victims. Parents decision to have 7 kids is burden to the eldest daughter but they wouldn't have lost their parents in the first place of govt did it's job.

I have already written that people need to get over the obsession of having male child. China was strictly following this policy for far too long and it reached a stage that it started affecting the population negatively. India will need years to reach that stage and after a point this policy can be stopped. But of now population is one of the main problems in india. Although the rich and middle class have started having only 1-2 child, it's mostly the lower income people who are still having many children. They are not even able to give them a good life and just contribute in increasing the population of the country. The same goes for a few other groups who keeps giving birth one after another in the name of religion.

Just imagine what will happen if rural villagers in Rajasthan and Haryana etc are limited to 2 kids. Social malpractices and human trafficking will be rampant. It will further deteriorate the position of women in society.
Yes population is a huge problem and it needs to be dealt with immediately. But this is not the right solution. There are no shortcuts to education, awareness and poverty alleviation. Social welfare and awareness programs must be done on a war-like scale and urgency. There is no shortcut to it. Forcing people will only lead to a string of worse problems to deal with later on.
