Hmm Bobby you got the ‘where is an electric car efficient’ thing wrong. An electric car will consume more charge while cruising on a highway or maintaining speed because its at a constant depletion state. An electric car is best at city commutes that has acceleration and deceleration for regen charging. This is why the city and highway mileage for hybrids and electric cars are reversed where city is better than highway. Hope you see this. Cheers!
Agreed. Normally during long distance travel, I will switch to battery save mode for the last 30 km prior to exiting the highway to charge up the battery so that I can use max edrive mode upon exiting the highway.
My brother has a 330e and it suffers from drivetrain issues with message prompting to check soon. The first time it came on, he got it checked and came back without the message, not sure what the diagnosis was but he thought it was fixed. Soon after that the message prompted again. Assuming that it wasn't a big issue since everything was perfectly functioning, he ignored it. I think it was about few weeks later the car just went into a limp mode(presuming, from what I heard) and he had to slowly drive it back home. The next day it refused to start and had to be towed to the service centre. It spent nearly 3 months there waiting for parts to arrive plus the lack of qualified technicians to work on the hybrid system. My brother was at least given a courtesy car but was still pretty frustrated when he was paying for something he couldn't drive. It was eventually fixed and got it back early this year. Last week, surprise surprise, "Drivetrain. Check soon". Right now he is back to driving the courtesy car as if it's his second car. He emailed BMW back and forth expressing his dissatisfaction, claiming that they had sold a defect but all they did was delegate to the service centre manager who's already dealing with the issue. He kindly asked my brother to not email anymore, saying that it's an exercise in vain. So the question now is, what is the proper next course of action? Is it fair to ask for a replacement car? He can't sell it now because it will be quite a loss, if he continues using he may be in a perpetual state of visiting the workshop. Also, any 330e or X5 hybrid owners having/had this issue too? Just to know if this is an isolated case.
Sorry to hear about your brother's situation. If I'm already angry and depressed just by reading about it, I can't imagine how your bro must be feeling after months of endless torment. Whatever happens, I hope that in time, things will work in your bro's favour. The world may not be fair, but God is. Malaysia needs to enact Lemon Car laws precisely for situations like this. If someone buys a cheap or second hand car and it breaks down, it's somewhat understandable. But if someone buys an expensive brand new car and it breaks down, especially when it's still under warranty, then it's not at all acceptable. Malaysia missed their chance to enact Lemon Car laws when the VW DSG crisis happened a few years back. The VW owners protested, but the MAA, MITI, government etc.. didn't bother and did nothing. The damage was done. Now, even when VW has finally fixed their DSG gearboxes (or so they claim), few are willing to buy a new VW today. Nobody wants to deal with a nightmarish lemon car, especially if it's an expensive lemon. It's about time our government enact a Lemon Car law. I noticed that some local groups have been pushing for this for years, but knowing our government, they probably can't be bothered to care about petty things like lemon car laws.
Shaun Lee ...... Thank you for highlighting this.. something to be aware of before making a car purchase....with high taxes here, cars are a huge investment for most ppl.
the problem is, when it comes to anomalies, definitely some will eventually bought a faulty car while some are lucky. Hence warranty is a must. Hope Shaun's brother get to fix his issue soon.
Under the terms and conditions, just in case the unit one buys happen to have problems, the car maker has to honour the 5 year warranty they provide and in their best effort to fix it. Sometimes it's bad luck unfortunately. Buy backs are literally impossible for what i know.
What I learned about my 330e M Sport? Pros: 1. Fuel up once a month Ron97 at RM80+ (40L), daily charge the car with electric bill about RM 55 a month. Mileage on city road and freeway monthly about 1,200km. (Ohh yeah, I always smiles in traffic jams - the savings fuhhh!) 2. Being BMW, the 330e can still drag nicely (sports+, jam your gear knob to the far left and throttle up!), and yes the hand brake is really useful 😁 3. Being a hybrid, if during flooding, turn your 330e hybrid electric mode on when driving through the flood. Don’t worry about water going inside your engine - u r running on electric remember? It’ll work as long as water don’t go inside your gearbox. (BMW is offering an extended 2 year warranty on the hybrid battery. Hybrid owners, highly recommend to get it if you with to keep your BMW hybrid for an extra 2 years) 4. It recharges during driving, so you get extra km of electric power on the road (when on highway, put on safe mode, and run the car on economy - you will get full 5 bar after 60km, or additional 25km of electric power). 5. The M Sport package that comes as standard, ohh yeah the sunroof makes the kids go goo goo gaa gaa. 6. The auto parking assist, convenient for those who normally have problems doing a 3 point parking - just let the car park by itself (I used it only three times-just for show offs 😂😂😂) Con: 1. Probably not the best car to fetch your friend at the airport (battery cells really dwarfed the trunk) 2. The noise 3. Phone charger ports to charge your devices, internal storage spaces is abit of an issue, a lot of internal spaces under utilised. 4. 360• sensors is not 360• camera 5. Unlike Proton voice control, you will need a perfect British slang English to communicate with your BMW Connected (probably the best English teacher to prepare you to speak good Londoner English before your next London trip) 6. Watch out for your aux battery - if it goes kaput, it may disrupt your sensors and drive system. Better drive home then tow your car to BMW. Call them (or your insurance provider) for a replacement car. Your car maybe in the workshop for a week or 2 because of the long servicing queue So far the car really works wonders for me, serves its purpose well as my ultimate family fun dragster driving machine.
Awesome feedback! You are one of the lucky ones with your PHEV working beautifully. I noticed buying and owning PHEVs is a hit and miss thing so far. Those who experienced zero issues with their cars love them to bits. Whereas those who faced issues non stop, really pity them. I was just like you, lucky with both my Volvo PHEVs, both performed beautifully.
I've been with E350e plugin hybrid for about 8 months so far. Pretty happy with it. When I go highway 100-120 km/hr and use different driving modes, generally it gets about 7.5 to 7.7 lit / 100 km or 13 km/lit. When I don't press the acceleration aggressively, it saves more fuel. Need to learn EV modes in order to make best use of fuel in this kind of cars.
What's your fuel consumption like? On my 320i 2016, the best I can get with normal mode is 17km per L and that is on a very relaxed highway drive. On my normal routes with a mix of highway and crawling traffic, it is usually 13.x to 15.x km per L. On my backup car (Prius), I get normally 17km per L to 22km per L for the same driving conditions.
What do you think of PHEV, Bobby? In general. For long term run. After sale services and maintenance for example? Contemplating whether to get a PHEV or a petrol car. Heard mix reviews on PHEV but would like to get your honest opinion. Thank you!
Hi. I’m always curious about the approximate throttle input for the combustion engine to kick in during max edrive mode. Provided enough charge of course.
It's good enough for day to day use. But if you were to bring it to Ulu Yam, you'd be stretching the engine more often than you'd like. And a VW Jetta, Honda Civic Turbo or Ford Focus will be
Hello Sir, I just wanted to ask regarding the plug in hybrid.. any big difference when we charge this car at home in terms of my home electric bill.??? Thank you 😊
Hahaha I am so happy Bobby go green and save the earth hahaha But plz dun be a Prius Guy But lucky your cars guy spirit is still there at the last moment
the savings in fuel will no where come close to the cost of keeping these things running, normal BMW start self destruct after 5 years imagine those batteries and whatever complexity comes with it..not worth the xtra weight ,headache or additional maintenance..
Problem is that we’re driving an expensive and powerful car and getting overtaken by vans, Honda’s Jazz, bicycles and people jogging... I lost count of how many cars overtaken the BMW during this video ...
Everytime I notice blue light glaring from behind, it must be new BMW. Anybody think BMW adjust their light a bit high?I can't imagine how if high beam turned on... Quite selfish ye... If no mirror shading??? mata buta 😖
But it cost more per km to use electric to drive than to use it in a blend of petrol and electric. Tbh, the only one who benefit is earth isn’t it? Cost wise, u save on petrol but u still pay a lot for charging at home. (Talking about house electricity, don’t say public free charging) Can u talk about this or explain?
Chen Wei Han I agree with your standpoint. We usually think about saving petrol. However, let's not forget you are paying more when charging the battery at home, especially your electric consumption hit certain range with much higher tariff. Something that people always overlooked when getting PHEV.
Lowest tariff is RM0.218 per kwh, highest is RM0.571 per kwh. Which means cheapest to charge the 330e will be RM1.25 for a full charge and highest rate will be RM3.25 to fully charge the 330e. It's way cheaper than petrol if for RM1.25 you can travel 20km.
Bobby Ang let's say we use highest tariff which is 3.25. We can get about 1.5L of Ron 95 at current price. A good petrol engine typically can achieve 12 to 14km/l. So 1.5L give us around 18 to 21 km of cruising range. I think it is about the same price as phev. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway just wanted to understand more on the cost before committing to it. I'm using camry hybrid which gv me around 17km/L. Not much different if my calculations is correct
True. But in more and morr countries starting emission free zones, you're either not allowed to enter or you have to pay extra. The proposition is also to provide option. To use a renewable source over a finite source of energy
Bobby Ang that's right. I'm hoping that Malaysia will follow the foot step in near future. By the way, the feeling of cruising in pure Ev simply awesome. Something where money can't buy. I'm looking to upgrade to phev. Guess will take a while before making any decisions. Thanks for this informative video.
bobby said car is not a liability before. why need to consider fuel efficiency and save petrol since car is not a liability. please rethink before giving comments.
You can travel in electric mode longer if u dont use signal
*insert think about it meme*
Hahhahaha epix
Yes because nobody else uses turn signals. Especially in the U.S.

Hey Bobby, I bought the 330e 6 months ago, largely due to your initial review. No regrets, thanks for the great content.

When petrol reaches RM10, Tenaga Nasional will also increase gila-gila.
Respect the Myvi!
Can you please do a review on BMW X6M??!!
good review ,,nway im wondering if the price drop worst than 328i ..? and why should bother about fuel hen u can afford 250k worh car ,
What about the cost of charging the car's battery though? always wondered if it is cost efficient enough to replace fuel option in the long run
Hi. I’m always curious about the approximate throttle input for the combustion engine to kick in during max edrive mode. Provided enough charge of course.
Hi Bobby, like your review! Can do a review on 318i? always wondered if the 1.5l cyl engine is powerful enough for the bimmer
It's good enough for day to day use. But if you were to bring it to Ulu Yam, you'd be stretching the engine more often than you'd like. And a VW Jetta, Honda Civic Turbo or Ford Focus will be
faster
Hello, what mpg do you get with combination of both electric and petrol hybrid? Please let me know
U mean kilometer per litre.
Bobby do you still own this car or already sold?

If you can, please review the jaguar f type r. Just for shits and giggles 😆
Problem is that we’re driving an expensive and powerful car and getting overtaken by vans, Honda’s Jazz, bicycles and people jogging... I lost count of how many cars overtaken the BMW during this video ...
this car has no problem accelerating. he's driving slow to preserve the battery and enjoy the ride
