    US builders should note most 9" angle grinders have a 5/8"-11 spindle thread while metric units often use a 10 x 1.25 spindle thread. Boat trailer rollers, long bolts for same, pillar (Euro usage) or "pillow" (Colonial corruption of pillar) blocks can be had online in most any size ya like. Prospective builders should study both commercial and homebuilt paddock starters for best results.

    This is fantastic. Much simpler than the heavier systems I've seen. And seems to work great.I have a couple of smaller 2-strokes that are kick-start only and I have an issue that makes this difficult. Do you have any instructions on how to make this anywhere?Thanks.

    I just rebuilt my 1970 Triumph Daytona 500, it's punched out a little bit and it's still winter. My bike dislikes winter more than I do and trying to light it up before April or May is and never has been easy. I've got 10:1 pistons n it so it's got some compression. I was thinking how I need to do this as I was feeling like an iron lung would be nice too! I'm no spring chicken but then even when I was, this bike was still nothing you'd want to bump start! Thanks for posting.

    very good idea with angle grinder. no need to buy a motor. One question the speed of angle grinder is quite high , ithink around 8000rpm. do you reduce the speed somehow , if yes how d'you do that?

    • @juniejerant6970
      @juniejerant6970  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speed of my angle grinder is 6000 rpm. This is good since you can start the bikes in a higher gear causing less strain on the starter.

      The 15-amp angle grinder and foot operated "on-off" switch are from Harbor Freight. 5/8" x 11 threaded rod and coupler from Home Depot. 5" boat keel rubber rollers and Pillow Blocks available from various suppliers on the internet. Frame made from angle Iron.

      Thanks.
      Just out of interest why do you use an angle grinder? Can you use a drill instead?

    • @juniejerant6970
      @juniejerant6970  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grinders turn at much higher RPMs than drills and have much more torque. A drill would never do the job! Most drills are rated a 5 amps or less and turn at around 1200 RPM. The angle grinders I used are rated at 16 amps. and turn at 6000 RPM. Because of the high RPMs I can start my bikes in 3rd gear(4 speed bikes)

    Hello, how is this holding up after a couple of years? Were you starting the bike in 2nd gear or higher.I'm trying to understand the load you're putting on the grinder. Thanks in advance. GREAT VIDEO

    • @juniejerant6970
      @juniejerant6970  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Holding up very well. Keep in mind that the grinder turns a 6000rpm, so I'm able to start the bikes in 3rd gear. This reduces the load on the grinder and wear on the rollers.

    Mr. Jerant, I would love to have a copy of any photos, plans, parts lists, and possible suppliers of the parts. I'm too old to kick start my GasGas XC250, but I love to ride it. If I knew how to PM you I would...just don't want my email address all over the internet. You have done a really nice piece of work here. Thanks. Lynn Garner

      Hi,
      The 16-amp angle grinder was purchased at Harbor Freight. The frame is the motorcycle stand also sold by Harbor Freight, but if you can cut and weld you can make your own out of angle iron. The start stop switch was also purchased from harbor freight. The rubber rollers are 5" boat keel rollers purchased on the net. The pillow blocks were also purchased on the net. The 5/8" threaded rod and couplings can be purchased at Home Depot. The distance between the center line of the roller shafts is 11 3/4". Since the angle grinder turns at 6000rpm, you can start the bikes in high gear (4th or 5th) Less strain on the starter. If you want pictures, I need your email. Hope this helps. Junie
