The GOOD, the BAD, and the UGLY… at 93,000 miles and in the third year of full-time travel in my 2019 Winnebago Travato 59GL tour the exterior and interior. You hear about the very few major problems. See the four living spaces in this 21' Ram Promaster van converted by Winnebago into a fully self-contained motorhome, a Travato 59GL.
❤️ 2019 TRAVATO GL because:
- Solid construction and materials by Winnebago
- Perfect floor plan for Scott's needs
- Volta Pure3 advanced lithium energy system enables 100% freedom of travel and camping
- 4 living spaces
- Great Room can seat up to 5 people, then convert to bed
- Chef's galley and huge fridge / freezer
- Massive garage storage under bed
- Private bedroom with Murphy bed
- Real, and very large, bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink
- Simple and durable Ram Promaster 3500 van chassis
- Exterior modifications makes my Travato that only one like it
😡 2019 TRAVATO GL because:
- Ground clearance not great until van was lifted
- Galley cabinet could be redesigned for better storage
- Under insulated in walls and probably ceiling
- Water, waste tanks, and Volta battery exposed to elements
- 3 season van, would not perform well in cold climates

Being organized is one thing, being organized on a continuous basis is something else, you've got it covered on both fronts, keep up the great work Scott. Thank You!
Thank you… one has to stay organized. One thing out of place in the van looks messy to me
@@gosmall.livelarge What's the monthly/yearly cost of RV life?
You love this RV. Keep it since it's still in great shape. Wait until the interest rates go back down and save your money for the next one. Anyone who watches this video can see how much you adore your RV.
Appreicate you
I appreciate seeing your organization esp clothes, thank you, good ideas
Hey old friend… you know how you create a video and wonder… does anyone listen?… did they get value?? Well, remember the video you did about forgetting the bathroom code and the tip you shared? I haven’t forgotten that, even though we don’t usually go to a lot of campgrounds that have a lock on the bathroom doors,… this week that tip helped a lot. We checked in to a KOA and on the little handout was the M-code and W-code. Lynn was out walking and didn’t have the code. She called and I gave it to her. I was out walking and ran into the same thing. But. POW!… I had taken a photo of that little handout! TMI… not sure I would have made it without that tip. 😂. Just wanted you to know that even when you don’t think something is helping others… it is! See you soon we hope. Owen, Lynn and Maggie
Thrilled to have you comment here Owen, Lynn, and Maggie 🐩. Very cool that my little tip helped. Looks like you are having fun in your Ekko. Hope our paths cross sometime!
Thank you SO much for sharing all of this with us! It really help us make our decision on the Travato GL.
Brava Brett on choosing Travato GL
Truly comprehensive review of Lily! What a lovely home you have created. safe travels, Scott!
Hi Eileen. Thank your for that.
Still loving on Lily, Scott....thank you for sharing your home and your adventure
Hi Kazoo !!!! Thx for that
Scott - you were the one who got me out of my lovely travel trailer and into my Travato. And I always rewatch your videos; there seems to be something new I learn. Thanks ☮️💜
Hi Donna. thrilled you are our my Audience Friend !
Your organizational skills are inspiring, not to mention your ability to optimize the functionality of your van. Great job! 👏
Hi Liz. One has to be organized in such a tine space I think to travel in comfort
Congrats Scott, on figuring out how to utilize every inch of this super van. Also congrats on paying it off. Oh, what a feeling! Nice video, full of tips. Thank you
Thank you for your thoughtful comment
Scott, thanks for the update on your van. Especially the honest advice on buying again and not 2022 with the changes.
Hi John. You are welcome
Great video Scott! Thank you for sharing your home with us :)
Hi Gary. Glad you liked it
You do great videos, but this might be the best one I’ve seen so far- I’d never do the full-time thing, but dream of being out for weeks at a time, and it’s so great to see what this looks like lived in! Super informative - thanks! Also, the van still looks amazing - speaks VERY highly of the product’s longevity.
Hi Brian. Thank you sir
Great video Scott. Really enjoy the detail and thoroughness.
Hey Idaho!!! Thanks for that.
Hi Scott! Watching your video from Redstreak Campground in Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia. We are on our first week long trip since buying our 2019 Travato K. Love your stories and totally relate to your positive experience with Winnwbago. Keep the stories comming!
Hey congrats … British Columbia is a special corner of the world !
Great video. I appreciate your honesty through out your video. You are one the few people to talk about how much the van was and the other financial information. Now I know what to expect, thanks for sharing.
Happy to help
Really a nice home… Thanks for sharing your home with us and the great tips.
Hi Richard. Appreciate your comments sir
You're my inspiration, Scott. I love my 2021G non-Volta. It works for me and I rarely need the generator but I have it when I need it.
Hi T C C … thrilled to be your inspiration. It is an honor sir !
Thank you for this video! I am looking at buying a class B in 2 years. Your detail to information is so helpful.
Glad you find the info helpful Chris
thanks! makes me even happier i have the 2019 59GL
You have a great rig I think that will treat you equally well. Congrats
I’m loving the floorplan of this van very nice set up perfect for two adults and one child.
You are so correct. !
Very helpful. Thank you so much! Peace 🙏
Excellent video; content very pertinent, very well done
Thanks again Scott!
Hi John. You are welcome !
Hi Scott. Rog & Jane watching the replay from a Harvest Host farm in Michigan’s UP. Great Lily tour and update. Glad to hear Lily is stil performing well! You put more wear and tear on her in a few months than most of us will put on in a few years. We call the front seats turned around the living room so count five living spaces in Discovery :)
LOL …. F I V E living spaces in Discovery. Very cool
That wrap looks magnificent…good to see that the Travato is doing well…very informative video…
Hi L M … glad you found it helpful !
Great and informative video! Thank you for posting!
You are well. Thx for wathcing
Love the paint color of this van! Awesome video ❤
Thank you. Paint job is actually a wrap of the van.
Helpful overview and ideas. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Great overview. Delighted the Ram has performed well.
thx Mike
That is the best use of all spaces that I see so far on a class B, I love to modify spaces on my RV to make it more useful and homey, just moved from a 28 foot class c to a 24 foot class c with the Mercedes’ sprinter front, ( feels like moving from a house to an apartment, will go through the modifying cycle again, but this time, no more screw holes and minimum on everything as the storage spaces are not much more than a class B, you have given me lots of ideas, thanks for making such a quality video, will watch the older and keep an eye on new ones,
Hi Yew !
That's a crazy review I didn't even hear it yet just your introduction
Hi Joe. thx for watching :)
It is a good looking van. I really enjoy your channel. Hope your travels go well in 2022!
Thank You James. Appreicate you being an Audience Friend.
I enjoy your videos, Scott. . I love my Tammy Travato, 2017 59G 93,336 miles. I'm with you on the undesirable change to the puzzle bed. I use it often as a guest bed and as my lounge for watching TV. The table with the additional fold-out has seen countless meals and card games. I've made many mods to fit my lifestyle of living in Tammy 4 to 6 months a year since buying her new in 2017. Also, my Travato is my daily driver for 2 years now. I look forward to my next 93,000 miles!
Thanks for sharing your Travato 59G experience. Looks like have a winner of a Van too. !
I have followed you since you got the van as I found you while researching the Travato 59GL. Always enjoy your owner/user insights. As the 2023’s are coming out it doesn’t look like WB will change anything back…I think I might could adapt to some to get the Volta but the bathroom height would always annoy me. I agree that the NP was their best offering. Hope you get many more happy years and memories out of Lilly!✌️👍
Wow Stephen… you are an early Audience Friend. Thank you sir for that. Hopefully WGO will make a big splash at the Hershey PA RV Show in Sep or FL RV SuperShow in Tampa in Jan.
Great video. Helped me a lot. Also you did a great job hosting brotha. Good energy. :)
Appreciate it!
One of your best vids…
Appreciate that Robert !
Thanks! Makes me even happier I have the 20 1959 GL :-)
You are indeed a happy camper !
This video was incredibly helpful. I was going to buy the 59K because of the open floor plan but after watching this video you pointed out many things that would be more beneficial for me if I went with the 59G instead. I would love to have a roof platform somehow to hang out at the beach! Thank you for sharing all your insights. Truly appreciated ❤
Glad it was helpful! Please check out my Staycation video… th-cam.com/video/nLhU1LFau8c/w-d-xo.html
I remember your first meal in the van - fillet o'fish sandwich. I check in once & a while, glad you are doing so well & that you are happy. Your videos are always very informative & pleasant to watch. Keep on truckin' as we used to say in the 70's. PS love your JFK pic.
WOWOWOWWOW Civil Panda 🐼 That WAS my first meal in my Travato GL. Best tasting one I ever had AFTER I rewarmed it in the microwave powered by Volta !
Great video Scott, as usual. I still remember that Europe trip. It was an eye opener.
Yes, S M… those Camper Vans in Spain 🇪🇸 at least were far above most USA 🇺🇸 offerings
@@gosmall.livelarge Same as in Australia greater number of chassis for a Class B
Really enjoyed this video, Scott. We have the 2021 GL, and we sure relate to how you use and enjoy the G model. We also are not at all enthralled with the changes in the 2022 G model, so we’ll be doing our best to hang on to our Maggie Moonpath as long as possible. Thanks again, and hope to see you on the road at some point. Bev and Jo
Maggie Moonpath !!!
Thank you for sharing your experience and suggestions, I think your winnebago still better than last aistrem Ram you show us few hours ago
Hi Andrea. Agree with you on my current van VS the Rangeline.
Scott you have the coolest rolling treehouse man!👍
Treehouse 8” off the ground !!!! Love it. Thank you Marshall.
Love... Love... Love...
Hi Margie !
Scott,
You’ve succeeded in providing viewers with an objectively balanced & tactful assessment of a B van under the unusually heavy demands of full-timing usage.
While mostly convinced an AWD Transit B van is in my future, your insightful commentary has represented RAM, Winnebago and Volta very favorably.
Curious to get your opinion on the van’s insulation envelope.
Thanks for another informative segment!
Howdy. The insulation in my 2019 Winnebago Travato 59GL is terrible in the walls. Ceiling maybe okay. Floor has an 18x18” area that has none. Overall, I am told by other Travato owners the insulation is much better in the newer models. Not a deal breaker for me, but sure wish they put more insulation in the van
Excellent
I did a 18 month review of my Winnebago too. It’s always good to see what time does to your opinion
thanks for commenting Horizon
Thank you for sharing this information
Happy to help
Excellent video Scott. Only had 3 issues with my 2020G. Replaced the Zamp solar controller (under warranty), replaced one of the led cabin lights, and had to replace the passenger side door mirror because it wouldn’t retract, also under warranty. 35,000 miles on the rig and no engine issues. One of the first things I replaced was the bathroom faucet and shower head. There’s is no better way to travel. I absolutely love my G.
So happy for you. Glad your rig is performing well too. You are right about no better way to travel
❤️🎥🚐🤠 Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome. Thx for watching
Awesome!
HI Jamal. Thx for watching and commenting . Would be great to have you as a subscriber
Great job really enjoyed. Looking at a class B now, like the 19’Mercedes with the big rear couch in back, looked at a Rize 18 last week it was too small for me. Congrats on 3 years in the van
Steve, thank you
wow! I have been planning to make my own van. and this is by far the closes floor plan to what i want to make. i have seen so many vans on youtube and they are all pretty much the same . this is really nice. the only addition i would make to this is , is finding a work space where i can fit 4 monitors for my work
4 monitors !!
This amazing. My Navion feels so big to be solo but I carry disaster/rescue gear and I can not seem to visual a downsize but this is ready my style. Thanks for review.
Thx Lake
Great information. We love our Travato 59k. But I think a GL would fit our needs so much better. Thinking we should sell the K and look for a GL with puzzle bed soon. Thanks for sharing this awesome information. Safe travels, friend!
Hi Kim (& Tim). Keep us posted on your shopping experience. My 59GL has performed so well and the floor plan is perfect for me
Useful storage!!!!
Yes Jenny !!
Nice job Scott! Still enjoying your content!
Hi Steve. Glad to know that. Appreciate still wathcing
I have always loved your van and layout!!!! It has everything
Thank you Mary !!!
Rockford Winnebago Motor Homes is fantastic! I was there Saturday looking at the 2023 Ram chassis Travatos. Adds $20K to the MSRP! That, and the floorplan change to the GL is why I would go for a Wingham!
Green… good for you checking out Mick and WMH Rockford team. Still so happy I b ought from them.
Excellent Video.

considering living in this fulltime. Subscribed. Eager to learn.
Thanks Drive for joining the GSLL Community. Eager for your van travel dreams to come true
So cool
I pinch myself everyday. thx for wathcing
Good video presentation; I think all these Pro Master chassis are the basic same so the only difference is the house part which each manufacturer is responsible for. Guess it is just finding one that has a layout and quality that you can live with.
I think you are right Jerome
Your van looks great! It's too bad they don't still make it. I think it would work for us best. We have been looking for one that would work as good as this looks and we would buy it in a minute. Thanks for sharing...
Hi Mike.
Great video, Scott! Making us feel pretty good about our ‘21 GL NPF ☺️ Having a great time in central Virginia with liberal use of the A/C 😂
Hey you 3. Yeah, pretty sure you have the best Travato GL ever !!! Hot 🥵 everywhere. Thank Gawd for A/C and Volta lithium 🔋!
how quickly does your battery drain with the AC? I just bought a 2022 59KL. just testing it in the driveway it seems to run the volta system down pretty quick. I don't see us making it through a full night.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I really like the living space area, and the fact that you can get another bed out of it.
I really want to build my own and I was pretty sure that you could get a bathroom over the wheel well and a bed beside it. SO so glad to see this design actually works. Im not a fan of the layouts where you walk in the sliding door and face the bathroom. No one wants to see that.
Great points you make
Great tour! Wish my wife agreed I could afford one.
Thanks Saint Byron !
I'm with you completely on the changes to the G
The best choice today (besides my 2017 custom Frankenbago) would be that 2021 Nation Park Edition....
In fact I would be VERY tempted by a low mileage newer van....I wouldn't change a thing 😉
Hi Cathy. And you know a thing or two about making changes !!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Maybe Winnebago is improving! Good to know, THANKS for the info!
Hi Erin !!
@@gosmall.livelarge 👋🏽
Wow 93,000 miles, I have a 2018 K model. I only have 34,000 miles on mine. It's my daily driver but I don't live in it. I absolutely love my K model. It suits my lifestyle. pulling over in a rest stop or in a Walmart parking lot and just getting in the back and laying on one of the twin beds watching TV that's what I like. Only problem I have had with mine is the Onan generator needed a new coil installed other than that no problems with my Travato.
The only nuisance I have with the Travato are the push buttons for the drawers, all of them are worn out and they do not keep the draws shut.
I screwed some L brackets next to each one and that keeps them shut.
Thanks for sharing Pat. Cool to know your 59K is your daily driver. always nice to have you bed, fridge, and toilet with you wherever you go.
New dad here, hoping to get this someday for my wife, kid(s) and I. A man can dream...at least I know it's well made thanks to your review!
Hi Brian
Thanks!
You are welcome e
Hey, all areas where there is sealant should be inspected on the regular... Especially since you are always in the elements. Recently saw a video of an RV inspector, and she pointed out just how easy it is for teensy cracks to appear where there is sealant. Great video btw
Great point!
so this is my second time i’ve watched this video - so well done! Question based on this video and all the new class B vans out there - what would YOU buy based on your experience - thanks so much!
Stay tuned
Nice review after 4 yrs! I like the data like mpg achieved. Could you do a future video on tank management? EX: do you travel with water tank full or less like 1/2? How long do you normally go before emptying & what was the worse unexpexted experiences? 1st video I've seen talking about the # of flushes in 4 yrs too! 🏆 Thanks!
Great questions you ask. Please for the answers in this week’s video released on Sunday night at 5:40 PM CT.
I just found your videos and enjoying your reviews. I'm still in the research process and pretty sure I will go with a Class B. I keep hoping to find something with no LP, with a black tank and possibly a gas or diesel generator, though I am not convinced about diesel yet...
My current vehicle is a Ford Transit Connect which I love but also find the Pro-Master very appealing. The wrap you have done is amazing!!!
Welcome to Go Small. Live Large!! Thank you for watching
Well if I ever can afford one now I've got a good idea what to look for. Several times a year I'm reporting an off road race
and this would allow me to be there Friday night so I could get the kids that race on Saturday. Then would be right there
for Sunday's race. Not to mention having a great way to take trips to the coast and other places. Thanks for all the
information.

Don't we know
Really love the GL floor plan. Honestly the best camper van floor plan I think I’ve seen. Really wish the GL had a pop top option. Will likely be getting a Solis because of the pop top option.
Thx Dime !
I have a 2019KL and also love my van. I don’t live in it but it has done remarkably well in all my travels. Love the Volta. I can never have a generator. I tell people that the twin beds are actually a lounge and they aren’t a bed until you go to sleep.
Lounge until bedtime. Love it!!! Volta all the way :) Any plans to attend the Volta Campout in Aug in MI? voltapowersystems.com/volta-campout/

Interesting and informative. I have subscribed will be catching up. Was thinking about full timing in a small fifth wheel until I saw this. I am currently living overseas, and this platform would eliminate the need to purchase a trailer plus a tow vehicle.

Howdy Norman Rana! Thanks for your nice comment. Will try to put some daily expenditures in the #Vanlife Routines videos. Good idea
Great video not a Winnebago owner but a Thor bvan owner for almost 2yrs not a full time. I think bvan really only great with it’s agility not comfort. My next rig will be a b+ or c.
Thanks for sharing. Many comprises for traveling in a Van. Congrats on your 2 yr with your Thor Camper Van !
I have 42,000 miles on a 21 foot Promaster. 11,000 this last winter driving all over Mexico. Speed bumps and potholes dirt roads and beaches. Front wheel drive is excellent for the turning radius and ease of parking in narrow streets. Use of the ESC button to lock the front wheels in soft dirt gravel or sand. As a platform ( mine is a custom professional build) the Promaster is leagues ahead of complex and expensive all and four wheel drive vans that require experienced off roads drivers to exploit the extra capability.
Such great points you make !!
@conchscooter How do you consider lockable FWD (2 wheel drive on the same end of the vehicle) better than 3 wheel drive which you can acquire from an AWD, spread out between both ends of the vehicle? This makes no sense to me.
Granted, having a tighter turning radius is always welcomed, and the lighter weight and better fuel economy when not on slippery roads or off road.
But better than AWD that can give you 3 WD (or better through traction control braking), simply isn't possible.
I look forward to the days (although not holding my breath they'll ever arrive) where you could spec a van like yours, but with lightduty motors at each rear hub, designed for less than 5-10 mph max, that run off a very simple, light, affordable 2nd 12 volt lead acid battery hooked in parallel with the Promaster's under the hood 12 volt battery. The motors could simply be the same as your average high amp starter used to start any V8 engine. They're torquey, light, reliable and very affordable. Combined with your EGT FWD system would give you true 4 WD which could get you out of most hangups you encounter offroad or on a graded slippery driveway in the winter. A system like this would add no more than a $1000. And if it caught on and was produced in larger numbers (I assure you, word would spread and it would be opted for easily 90% of the time, even if for resale value and desirability) then its cost could easily be less than $1000.
Safe travels 👍
@@user-3tf67bk46u better only in that I have no interest in rock hoping my way across the globe. Less expense less complexity and sufficient capability to take me where I want to go. Four wheel drive is a consumer status symbol 90% of the time: the ten percent who are out there using it spend more time talking about travel and less about machinery.
Hi Scott, I love your channel. I learn so much from your videos. In one of them you said you had an air conditioning squealing noise. Was wondering where you took that to get repaired as I’m having the same issue and the place I took it to replaced my power steering pump and it didn’t help with the squealing. TIA in advance.
Hi Kathy. Gald you like my videos. The chassis pulley squeal is so infrequent I am certain the Dealer Service Dept would say they could not replicate the problem and send me on my way. Am keeping an eye 👁 and ear 👂 on the situation. More as things develope
Hi Scott, thanx for being our go-to guy for the best Class B info out there! I do have one question, do you know if the "G" awning windows can be installed to replace the OEM sliders?
Good question. My guess is yes, but would be pricey probably. maybe a dealer servcie dept can verify for you
Check out The 2023 KL. love it!
Glad you like the Travato KL …
I recently watched a documentary on people that live to be over 100, they all drink. You're nowhere near 100 so you're going to be on the road for a long time brother! Have fun and I hope to encounter you out there one day soon!
Alcohol, key to a long life !! Never knew :) And all things in moderation, right!?
What a good and useful, credible, helpful video. Very impressed. I wasn't a Ram fan before but I'm much more impressed than I thought I would become. You mentioned details that few if anyone else ever covers. Like the Ram being the widest, the Ford being the tallest and narrowest etc. All excellent info.
Your tire life sounds too good to be true! Probably needs a clarification..my guess is: stock tires went so far, then you bought the KO2s (I think you said?) and then at 70k miles you bought your 2nd new set of KO2s? Which would be 3 sets so far at 93k and these look good still. You're obviously a gentle driver but you actually drive quite a lot. I'm guess you're getting 17-18 mpg? You might even be exceeding that, except the 3" chassis raise might have cost you a couple mpg? Plus there is a chance the outside circumference of these more aggressive looking tires are greater than stock. If so, that would make your speedo read a bit slow, actual miles probably greater than 93k, and make it look like you're getting a bit better
Edit..no, probably make it look like you're getting'fewer' mpg than you actually are. If there is quite a difference in tire circumference and you didn't have this change entered into the van's electronic management, then you might want to be careful going through some small towns where tiny over the speed limit donations help pay the local bills.😳
Super review, well done, will look for more updates from you for sure. (great to know about the 2021 or earlier tip). Too bad we couldn't duplicate your $108k in today's world though. What do you think a similarly equipped new one (with your Coleman upgrade) would cost today, pre tax?
Safe travels 👍🙏
Thanks for your nice comment. check out RVtrader.com for vans and prices
Hey Scott, thanks for this video. It's really nice to see how you've arranged things. Especially the liquor cabinet! 😂 I use the same area for mine. I was stumped for wine bottles until I swithed to the Costco boxed red wine for those occasions.
I am curious however why you would not consider the embassy traveler duo (old name, I know. What it it now? SSL? I mean, totally stealth when needed and AWD (not that YOU would intentionally go to snow! LOL).
Hi John. Glad you have placed a liquor cabinet in your van!! Embassy RV makes a very fine Camper Van. However, they do not build a floor plan that is even close to mine. For that simple reason their offering would not work for me. If you are considering Embassy, be sure to tell ‘em Scott sent you !
The only items that are big and bulky in the van are the whiskey bottles! lol
The floorplan change for '22 is such a salient point, and appreciate you being candid. I get the change feel/look/entry perspective, but you point out utility around the jump seat that makes a lot of sense. The added floor height for the bathroom, that's a strange one, all in the name of a gravity drain? Positive note: the tapering of the bathroom wall to add 4 inches of width near the murphy bed pillow area, that seems like a good call.
Related to the used 59G model years (2014-2021), any feedback around avoiding the early years?
Great points you make Scott. Don’t know enough of early Travatos, except some came with diesel engines. I personally prefer gasoline
I love how you were able to incorporate your faith in the van. We have a rosary in the rear view mirror but this is a great idea. (Image of Jesus on one of your walls)
Agree with you. I really like the 3-dimensional element of the Sacred Heart of Jesus protruding into my space. Visually very compelling and breaks up the “hallway” nature of the space.
@@gosmall.livelarge yes!!! I love it!
Is that Tattooed Chef riced cauliflower I see in the freezer? I have two bags in my home freezer. I love to get the Costco fajita chicken strips, chop some strips up into little dices and cook it with the Tattooed Chef. Add some dark soy sauce from GSF foods and it is Sooo good!! and Quick to make...Your coach is about as lived in and personalized as it can be...Great job making it your own...
Van CHEF liberty!!! Thank you sir !
I did like your video. I want one of these. I love your BIG FRIG. I do thank you, sorry I was sarcastic earlier.
Thx Laura
Scott, You should order a Starlink!
Hmmm…. Sticking wi my trusty Verizon jetpack for now. I’m not very good at being an early adopter.
