I always come back and listen to this song and this time my dream of the existence of a sequel has become a reality. I never thought this day would come.
I played the flute for the past seven years and recently kind of stopped due to many things happening around me. THIS theme did strike right into my heart. I need to start playing again. This whole game is heaven for flute players or basically anyone who likes music.
Oh my, sorry, I didn't see your comment. My flute "talents" are pityful right now - I couldn't join back my concert band two years ago because I had a switch in my work schedule, so I didn't play for quite a while now, and whenever I did I felt like it was too hard for me. It is a gorgeous yet ungrateful instrument, I think that to play it again I would need proper training - my highschool years are "far" behind me now and I wasn't individually coached. Those were wonderful years though and I wouldn't have made it without music. Only a few weeks ago, I took out my flute, polished it a bit only to notice that it's getting old in its case, and thought that I should give it to a young flute player instead of letting it go to waste. I would have lost my mind to get a flute like this one when I was a kid full of dreams borrowing the schools instruments, but I'd need to find the right one to give it to. On the other hand, I've been thinking of getting a myself a piano or a saxophone, which I used to play on much lower levels too and feel much easier and forgiving. Plus, I'm in an appartment now and you can plug headphones in a keyboard. :)
Once I got out of kamiki village I thought everything was going to be all colorful and happy. But then I was smacked in the face with this music and the curse. I was so angry I wanted to end the grey and. Bring the color back
To be honest, now that I'm replaying through the game and listening through the soundtrack, I'm realizing something. There's a lot of flute. I would love to think that Waka is playing the flute for this. It makes me.. Calmer, I suppose.

What I really enjoy in this ost is the way the flute and the oboe talk so much to each other and how in some parts of the piece they sound like they're fusing, becoming one... So mesmerizing...
This game was great at capturing the essence of japanese myth and history and the music was highly immersive each track fit the scene perfectly , I have no idea why this game is highly underrated I loved it has a teen. Remember when you beat the game and had access to the art book and the music tracks? (Sigh) memories
The beautiful, vibrant landscape of Nippon has been tainted by the curse of the dreaded Orochi. Evil now runs rampant, plunging the land and its inhabitants into chaos. The devastation is so great that you can hear its cries for mercy. It's heartbreaking. That's what I feel when I hear this piece.

yes, Himiko's blood is full of Mystic power, nearly on par with Amaterasu's, which explains why He was able to do the same brush techniques as Amaterasu
Listening to this music again after not playing the game for so long (The disc unfortunately became too damaged and the game wouldn't respond after a while) really gives me a feeling of nostalgia. So many memories, happy and sad, all rushing back at once.
My dad bought this game for me and i have play it on ps2 when i was 8 years old and now i got 17, i still love this game and have play it a few times until now, sometimes when i stop playing Okami, this music again appeared in my head, and somehow i feeling sad.. I dont know maybe i remember about my childhood, this game too, thats a very beautiful moment with this game.
Okami is truly the greatest game ever. It has an amazing and unique story, and amazing graphics. It's also truly inspiring. Okami inspired me to learn flute just to play its soundtracks. This is the song I'm learning now.
imagine you're the god of life, and you wake up from a 100 year sleep to the very planes and hills that you once loved and tended to dearly, devastated, cursed and broken. I think it was a *very* purposeful choice to make it feel somber and downcast, instead of eerie
After a bit of reading comments and listening to the music again. The OST is just Amaterasu and Waka, inside their heads, both thinking of the Nippon they so dearly love. Like a deep conversation about bygone memories. I'm glad I got to experience this game, and by extent, this beautiful, serendipitous, and masterfully designed piece of work. I will cherish it as a game that lasted alongside NieR/Drakengard, Persona, the entire ICO universe (including SotC and the Last Guardian), Flower, Gravity Rush, and Kingdom Hearts.
Wow this game came out 16 years ago and im still here appreciating it, my mom bought me this game as a kid and looking back It'll forever be the game i think of when i think of my mom
Memories.... Playing this as a child with a broken disc, this song was one of my most hummed while I just got lost in the world, enjoying every second of it. (If you were wondering, once you got out of Hana valley with reviving it, and tried to bloom the tree in the field, the game just froze. Happens with any guardian sapling from that point too)
The sadness in this song hit me. I've beaten the game quite a few times, but I think what keeps me coming back other than such an interesting game, is in fact the music. It almost gives you a feeling like you feel bad for the place in this part. If you're someone thinking about buying this game, Do as we all are saying and just go play the game for yourself. I'm not one that plays many games and I can't stop playing this one. C;

Bruh I hope we get an Okami 2 (or technically 3 cause of Okamiden) there’s a super high chance of us getting one. All we need is for Capcom to say yes to Nakamura’s pitch :) and we’ll have the original team back together making another Okami game

Okami wasn't just Emile's favorite project. It was his best work EVER. He's had really good walkthroughs but nothing ever came close to this. And unless he does Okamiden nothing ever will.

@DumDum5551 no its the same. this plays for Shinshuu field, taka pass, ryoshima and kamui when theyre cursed. XD half the time, i just let ammy sit really close to the edge of the cursed zones and let the music play. for some reason, to me, this fits the game when Ryoshima is cursed.

It's weird isn't it? I can see myself there helping Ammy and the others despite the fact that I'm just the one controlling her to her destiny. Maybe it's the somber Melody that makes me want to spring in and give it my all to restore peace and quiet to Nippon. Who knows, maybe I'm just weird.
Okami is so pretty. Both music and art style. I love Japanese culture, history and legends. No true gamer can ever say that this game isn't what it is. An absolute masterpiece. Fun fact: Okami is Japanese for wolf. Cool right?

I suppose it could be shinobue if you mean the very high-pitched flute. The lower flute in many themes is shakuhachi but I believe it doesn't go that high.

I think Okami deserved just as much if not more media attention as the Halo and CoD games.
For how unpopular it was despite being Game of the Year it deserves all of the media attention. It's such an incredible game!
