Wow, People in Guyana Are Fun! (

  • For a very long time, I had looked at the map of South America and wondered about those 3 tiny countries at the top -- the countries that no one knew even existed. One of those countries, Guyana, actually had a huge immigrant population in New York, where I'm from. It was the only English speaking country in South America, they said. It was a country of unspoiled natural beauty, they also said. With the world slowly reopening again, I knew I had to go. Guyana is not rich, but with it's recent discovery of oil, that will be changing very soon. But I was there for the people.

Very Cool Tommy. I was just going to send you a message to suggest Guyana. If you're still there I have some friends in Georgetown who have the first hotel (Takutu Hotel) in Lethem up north in the Savannahs and near the Amazon at the end of what used to be considered the worst of all worst roads in the world. They are great hosts and can provide some fun and historical Guynese perspectives. Call the Takutu Hotel and ask to be put through to Morsha, the owner and she can set you up with some personalities and adventures. Her family is well known and connected and she used to be an attorney for the President and Prime Minister and would love to share more about Guyana.

I also know someone who Knew Jim Jones and flew the first flights into Jonestown after the massacre who has some dramatic accounts. The dynamics of the the Afro-Guyanese, Amerindian, East Indian, Chinese, British and Portuguese cultures and history include unique aspects of interdependence and even political incursions and a small scale race war.
Morsha and others can tell of when a paramilitary group of insurrectionists from Venezuela flew in and attempted to claim the area and commit genocide in the process. She and her family fled their hotel and hid under weeds in the river to avoid being slaughtered.

ANOTHER ONE from Tommy. This is a great informative vlog that I always look forward to. You have now shown us Guyana, its location, people and food. We would all like to know more about the place and how the Indians ended up there. Everyone so far seems to be very friendly.
Its is surprising to see that you are so famous that even the local smart kids know who you are.
Keep up the good work and we cannot wait to watch the next clips about Guyana

Hey Tommy! I hope you don't mind but I've posted support for your channel on my FB page. I've binged watched ever episode since discovering it. I've traveled outside the US ( nowhere as much as you) and, at one point,, lived in Iceland for over a year so I completely agree with you on the benefits of such an experience and how beneficial it is in understanding yourself and others. Your approach is unique and I'm enjoying traveling vicariously, along with you! Most of all, I believe you represent the heart of an American like me so well in your travels! So, yeah!..... thank you for that! Safiri salama!

I has beaches but the water is brown and muddy because of all the silt deposited from the numerous rivers flowing into the ocean from the Amazon. The interior has nice rivers with clear water.🌴

Definitely not unknown it depends on who you ask... not many people are interested in learning about others places due to circumstances. I've personally had friends visit my family

    • @mentox6592

@@merlin8996 I had heard about Guyana before, but hadn't the slightest clue what to expect from it. I think if you ask a lot of people worldwide most people wouldnt know Guyana compared to other better known South American countries. While there are ofcourse people who know about it, most people still don't. And that's why I love Tommy his videos, he educates us about stuff most people don't know.

My Mum is Guyanese, so yes I have heard of Guyana. Guyana is already rich (they have a wide range of resources and one look at the land and you see the lushness and fertility of the place).
Oil will just raise it's international profile.

@@turnip5359 It's so sad. Guyana has an abundance of many things, but the Chinese economy has a voracious appetite and can eat Guyana, Suriname and the entire Caribbean for a snack.
Guyanese government shouldn't be so willing to sign off on large tracts of land.
