I once lost my small purse in a NYC transit bus while traveling, some time in 2014 or so and was surprised to receive a telephone call from a Guyanese bus driver, telling me he found my purse in the transit bus!!! He duly returned the purse with my things in it.
Just got back from Guyana and loved it! I forgot repellent one day and came home with about 20 huge bites all over my arms and chest! Never forget repellent when in Guyana.
With it's oil money wealth one would think or hope the Guyana government will spend some money on addressing the crime & safety issues. Concerns over personal safety is a major obstacle to attracting visitors, tourists and , businesses wishing to invest. That being said, Guyana's crime issues are quite similar to a host of countries, some just as bad, some worse. Every country have their seedy areas, even those pushing their safety records. It is up to individuals to use common sense & what this gentleman says makes a lot of sense. He is not giving the country a bad name, he is advocating caution - Do's & Do not advice.
How many foreigners and tourists, actually, get robbed in Guyana? Not many! But that is not to say you can’t. Unfortunately, you just cannot be flashing your jewelry, money, cellphones and etc. out in the open. Local Guyanese and Guyanese coming back to visit or on vacation are the main targets of the robbery, crimes and other legal activities that happened in Guyana. We are the ones that got to more careful than any foreigner or tourist. But it is, also, a fact that your stuff will be stolen if you don’t keep it with you at all times in Guyana.
Eh heh yuh done know!! I'm born and raised in the US but My family is from Guyana South America I've been there 4 times in my lifetime and the experience up there. I recommend to people do not go to Guyana and showing off your money and jewelry because you will get looked at as an easy target it doesn't matter if it's daytime or nighttime!! 🌏🚦

Guyana is safer than big cities in US America. There's almost never random homicides the problem being mostly domestic disturbance between people who know each other, suicides and drunk driving car accidents.
No, I loved Guyana and felt relatively safe, but Georgetown specifically is not safer than my country’s big cities. America, NYC included, is safer overall.
@@sayitloudblcknproud I've lived multiple places in NYC and around George Town. In NYC you can't even stand near train tracks because of how many people were intentionally pushed. When the country has the largest serial killer and mass shooter population it only makes sense. The safest places in America are all the small isolated towns that exist.
Love your content on Guyana. There isn’t much information out there so all of your videos have been super helpful. I’m headed to Guyana in August. What is my safest option for getting to my hotel from the airport late at night?
Guides..? what guides ?? Those are probably your best chance of being robbed. Bottom line is that you cannot trust anyone, not the taxi driver, not the guide, not the police.
