    I could go skin my own alligator and make my own strap for less than Omega charges for theirs. I know that Omega does have nice classy straps and that's the price you pay for the best but it's still just a piece leather. But now the counterfeit Omega straps are everywhere and they have all the hallmarks of the original authentic ones. Good upload!

    I've had a couple of straps from the supplier you mention in Germany.
    They were to fit a Breitling and a Speedmaster with original deployant clasps.
    The quality is excellent and personally I find them equal if not superior to the OEM straps.
    Plus their customer service is second to none.
    Thanks for posting this I enjoyed it.

    For me the Speedmaster is not about dress style straps and clasps. I'd rather wear it on a more tool-like vintage looking leather strap with a simple buckle. Though I guess some of the coaxial versions are a bit more dressy than the standard Professional.

    I agree its pricey for the OEM Omega but if your already rocking a pricey watch, a pricey strap is hand in hand.
    With that being said, sure the cheaper one looks great.

    Hi Dave! Thanks so much for the great review of the watch straps. I’ve been looking for a decent one to accommodate my Hamilton Field watch for about 2 months now. I ended up picking a couple of Bob’s straps and if they turn out as good as you’ve reviewed them, I have a couple of other watches I’m going to grab a few for. Thanks again.

      @starfluke 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Claus Frølund. Your point is well taken. My experiment with the $54 Strapie on deployant has convinced me to do the research to see if there is an Omega rubber strap with curved ends to snugly mate with my Moonwatch on an Omega deployment. I can report that the Strapie curved rubber hugs the Moonwatch case beautifully but the provided Strapie deployant is obviously inferior, thicker, less secure, and has a shorter swing arm and therefore requires hand contortions to slip on and off. Failing that I’ll try to fit the Strapie curved end rubber strap to an Omega deployant clasp.

    • @matthoffman6962
      @matthoffman6962 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, if a leather strap only lasts 2-3 years is it worth it to spend $700 on it? I mean as long as the integrity of the strap is going to be the same “the watch won’t fall of your wrist and break” why would you not get an aftermarket strap?

    I can get a very nice pair of boots made from Horween chromexcel, or shell cordovan boots in a size 13 for the price of that Omega watch strap new from an AD. I get that Omega demands a premium, and is made exceptionally well, made from high grade materials and high end hardware... But still...

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! It's one thing to overpay for the watch. But when they ask you to pay a ridiculous price for the accessories, it just feels insulting. Especially when I think of paying $400 for the Omega clasp that goes with the overpriced strap.

  • @starfluke

    Compare your OEM alligator with the OEM alligator that came on my modern Hesalyte Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. My gator LACKS the elegant curved ends that hug your Coaxial Speedy case at your 21mm lyre lugs. Yours is a different, smoother, unified look. Having seen the smooth blend of your OEM curved ends on the lyre lugs I am envious and but will soon receive a 20mm Strapie (via instagram $54) curved end rubber on deployant. There are other pricier buckled curved end rubber straps available from Zealande and Everest but I’m not sure if these can be made to curve snugly on my Moonwatch since they seem focused on marketing to other brands. Further, I strongly prefer deployant to a buckle and tang. I may even switch out my Omega signed OEM deployant clasp to the Strapie rubber replacing the Strapie deployant clasp that comes with it. Thanks for your excellent and useful review from the diffused light on your comfortable Pennsylvania porch. It’s given me just the information I needed to move forward with a good plan. Reminds me of our family farm in Arkansas.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the curved ends. They really make a difference in the visual aesthetic and lines of the watch. Good luck.

    • @starfluke
      @starfluke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave's Watch Love The $54 Strapie on its deployant is a mixed bag. The rubber is soft, supple and comfortable. It curves beautifully onto the Moonwatch case. The Strapie deployant clasp is thicker than my OEM Omega clasp attached to the OEM gator strap, is less secure, and has a shorter deployant arm so that my hand must contort to slip it on or off. Now I’m motivated to find an OEM Omega deployant clasp that will fit the Strapie.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The black alligator strap with the curved ends is a genuine Omega strap. It's made for one of their other 21mm models (can't remember which), but it worked for my Speedy. Not sure if there's an aftermarket model with curved ends. I've not seen one.

  • @Lee_K_5555
    @Lee_K_5555 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Aww jeez -- The Speedmaster co-axial strap is 21mm wide? I didn't realize that. That's really disappointing as it's an odd size with limited aftermarket solutions and I'm sure Omega did that on purpose to direct people to their own strap offerings. Glad to see you were able to squeeze a 22 on there.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. That is indeed the case. In fact, besides the coaxial Speedmasters, many Omegas like the Planet ocean have 21mm lugs. I'm surprised there aren't more 21mm aftermarket options out there to respond to the market.

    • @Lee_K_5555
      @Lee_K_5555 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! Not the Planet Ocean too!? You'd have thought after all the lusting I've done over the sapphire sandwich Speedmaster and the Planet Ocean that I would have known that measurement by now. Oh well -- it is what it is. Thanks, Dave!

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stand corrected. It's not the Planet Ocean (most are 20 and 22). It's the Seamaster 300's that's usually 19 and 21mm. But with Omega, you never know when you'll discover your watch has an odd lug width.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Though the good news is, the Moonwatch Professional Sapphire Sandwich has the 42mm case and 20mm lug width. So your day isn't completely ruined!

    • @Lee_K_5555
      @Lee_K_5555 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whew! That's good to know. I can see a Planet Ocean in my collection one day in the future and with a 20 or 22mm strap size I have a ton of options ready to choose from. Bracelets are just not my thing, with all of my current divers mounted on sailcloth, rubber, perlon, or NATO straps. Thanks for the update!

    Where do you find an OEM strap that fits the case of a specific watch? Looking on their website, I see no mention of straps being made to form fit to specific models of theirs. Your looks fantastic by the way.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to search the Omega watch forums to match this one (Ref # 98000349) to my Speedy. You're right, Omega's website doesn't help much. When I needed to match a curved strap to my Hamilton, I called the Swatch Group in New Jersey and got good info. That's an option too since Omega is in the Swatch Group.

    Sir sorry to disappoint you but that is not a genuine omega strap. The serial code on a genuine omega strap is much higher where the clasp itself does not cover. I do notice you have a different clasp but even with an omega strap on, the serial number should be seen even when close. Also another to note is the font of the numbers from both numbers (different direction) should still be the same size font.

    The Omega strap seems very stiff, and doesn't fit the wrist properly. (just look at the gap at 0:30)

    • @DavesWatchLove
