Some "big brands" could learn something here. I always thought it couldn't be that difficult, here is the proof it is not. Excellent product. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I'd definitely be interested in one of these. I've been thinking about buying one of the ones you have already for a watch I have on a sail cloth strap. I don't know about anyone else, though, but I personally think I'd rather see it just in stainless steel at a cheaper price than all the super lightweight materials.
Unbranded in 18,20,22&24 would be fantastic. Even branded in those sizes would be pretty nice, I really like this clasp and the way it works. Well thought out.
$85 is actually pretty insane value for what it is and the engineering and multi-process manufacturing that goes into making something like that. As others have said would definitely buy an unbranded 18mm version, especially if they had polished and brushed buckle options.
I purchased ones from you and love it. The fact that it's so light and has the micro adjustments makes it practically perfect. It would be great if you did get some unbranded and in all black.
Wow, wow wow!!!! I was going to contact you before and say you should start deployant clasps that can take 4mm thick straps. It is very hard to find. I like that it is carbon fiber because I am allergic to stainless steel and even 316L in the summer. So the carbon fiber is perfect and with the micro adjust.... Oh man this is so awesome. Need to make it in all sizes and rose gold, gold, pvd black haha. Keep the signature, it doesn't matter, because they will be the top dog of deployant clasps, and that will be the new status name hahaha. Thank you so much for showing this and I will be checking how many 20mm I own and get them from you. Thanks again Marc and cheers.
Ooh, YES. 22mm for me please! I don't mind whether it's signed or not, and I'd be content with an all stainless brushed finish if the price came down to 40-50.
Thank you for this video. A few months ago I looked at it and ordered the clasp directly from Formex. I put it on Tudor Pelagos' original rubber band and I'm impressed. The micro adjustment works excellent and is very comfortable to wear.
Definitely interested in a 22 mm size, much like one of the other comments in steel possibly if it would be a little bit cheaper. Awesome item though thanks for the video!
I’ve never paid much attention to clasps because I have bracelets on my Omegas, with backup Omega leather straps, and all my other watches are on NATO straps. It was really interesting to learn about these clasps.
Absolutely yes to a non-branded, 18mm Formex clasp! Been thinking of a new leather strap for my Alpinist and possibly my Oceanus. I'd love to add a Formex clasp to it!
The best adjustment I've seen is on the Oris Aquis rubber strap. Similar concept, but the pushers and track are more exposed. Sadly, it's only on the Aquis 43mm and not the 39 - argh!
This is fantastic! My wrist always seems to be between sizes on buckled straps and this would be the solution to my sizing issues. I went to buy one but it is out of stock. Will get one as soon as you restock. And I would for sure get non-branded versions in 18 and 22 mm.
This looks like the perfect upgrade for my 22mm Hirsh caoutchouc band which is a tad too short for my 8.5" wrist. Will order as soon as I see it on the website!
Depolyants are so convenient but most are cheap and those at the higher end still compromise some level of comfort. I’d like to see an unbranded clasp to accommodate both 20 and 22mm band widths, reduced down per usual by 2mm at the buckle end, I believe these personal and simple customizations not only provide additional income along the supply chain but, if well marketed, open opportunities for other modding, perhaps at point of sale (digital or in person) by sellers and buyers. I note you are out of stock so waiting for mine.
Yes please!!I would love this in 18mm and 20mm. Good deployant clasps are hard to find. Also the micro adjustment is the icing on the cake. Amazing! Any plans for a 22mm version?
I'd like it in gold, but can you lose the tongue if you want to? The whole pleasure in a deployant clasp to me is not having to deal with a tongue. And I like seeing the clasp if the metal coordinates with the watch.
I was hoping for a clasp that would get rid of the actual "clasp" part of a watchband when I read "most comfortable" (since my hand is resting on top of it) but instead it's even more bulk added below the clasp...
omega, breitling and iirc oris and heuer style (all with plenty of cheaper aftermarket options) deployant clasps all have the "holes-end" of the strap under the actual clasp, and some of them (for example breitiling) are held by friction, so they don't even need holes
didn't buy the deployant clasp from you because my strap is about 4.5mm thick. A Hadley-roma kinda fitted it (still too small space where you mentioned), but after a week I notice that when you fold the clasp the inside sharp edges cuts into the inside surface of my leather. This looks pretty rounded on the hinges.
Thanks for the review Marc. I have one on my Essence and will probably buy another one in black titanium for $85.00. Unlike anything I have for straps. I'm basically a bracelet guy, but this clasp not only wears well, but saves wear and tear getting the straps on and off.
Hey Marc, I put a velcro strap on my recently purchased 38mm Islander. As nice as the bracelet is, the velcro is going to stay on for most of the time. You should look into those. The good ones are pricey, but it's the most comfortable I've worn. I do expect that adjustable deployant with a good leather strap will top it so when you get a size that'll work for me, I'll be on it.
Super cool. Ingenious. Can the extension piece be a point of failure? It looks kind of thin. But it is a really cool deployent clasp. Make it and I’ll buy it.
Would ABSOLUTELY buy this in unbranded, 20mm and 22mm (maybe 24mm). I at first though that it looked nice - but then when you showed the microadjustment - you got me there.
Really neat contraption. Does it add a lot of thickness to the bottom of the strap? I love the idea of a deployant with the possibility of small adjustments. I think they will sell well.
Besides sizing, a leather strap would last longer or at least, it will not start to crack on the stress points from a regular clasp. You should your own model, Mark, cheaper it would be great :D
I thought the clasp was going to be exposed while worn, I think that aesthetic would look great, even on a dress watch, but it's still an interesting product nonetheless.
It looks like a great clasp to replace a buckle, but why would they use it on a new watch? The single-hinge design is much simpler to use, so if you're not constrained by the length of the strap that would be the one to go with.
@@islandwatch I've got Omega deployants with a single hinge though. The adjustment is a great innovation, but one could be built into a single-hinged deployant. I bought my first butterfly style deployant last week (after watching your video about them, thanks!) and the first thing I noticed was how much more fiddly it was than the Omega ones. It just seems odd to choose one of those when the other type is an option.
Formex have unfortunately discontinued this clasp and now only offer clasps designed for omega-style straps, where the end with the holes go on the inside (so if you have keepers, they're left dangling)
If you carried deployants clasp that can do 5 mm thick leather bands, I would buy MANY! Very hard to find for extra thick leather straps! Also, if they could make this so it does NOT need a pin to connect, that would be great as well!. The prices are VERY cheap- you want to be shocked, go price out a Breitling deployant!
Oh, I *hate* being the party-pooper here, but: *love* the idea of the clasp's micro-adjustability-almost worth the price of admission itself. Two things bug me a bit, though: first one's a small issue, and that's the carbon base of the clasp, with is about the same size as the other clasps you offer (one of which I bought for my Seiko Alpinist, and still love), with the likely result that the strap doesn't quite "hug" the wrist as much as I'd like: mind you, this is just an aesthetic thing, since the comfort level is still great. The somewhat bigger issue is the tongue/tang, which resembles that of a conventional buckle arrangement, which *might* put a bit of a crease in a strap, as opposed to the vertical post in the other buckles you offer, and one of the big reasons for switching to a deployant buckle in the first place. Of course, I'm just speculating here: hopefully the manufacturer has thought that one out. Otherwise, the thing looks terrific.
Nice product, great review. Is it available in black DLC finish? Application for an Oris Pro Pilot Air Racing limited edition triple black I’d like to put on a Horween Shell Cordovan black strap. Thanks. Ciao.
I'd absolutely get an unbranded version of this in 18mm and 20mm. No doubt about it
Thanks.
What he said. Would love to ditch the few butterflies I have. For $85 each...no sweat on value there. However, they'd need to be unbranded.
And 22 mm.
@@islandwatch Hi Marc! How about the Oris rubber strap and clasp? I think it's brilliant and really comfortable
Or perhaps a laser engraving service to add the brand of choice/logo and quick release nub to ease changing

One of these clasps in steel(so it would be cheaper) and in some othe sizes would be so cool!

Mark - Please get more of these in stock! I need it!!
Everyone looks at me like a tool when I say 'deployant' (including spellchecker)!
Yup. Just know you're right.
Sometimes they say to me "Tish... That's French!". :)
Yes please Marc, I’m definitely interested in 20mm and a 22mm ....another great video ... thank you
Thanks!
This is truly brilliant. So please make one in 18mm, I would buy it instantly😊
Ok, thanks.

Hi sir. I would definitely end up using the 20 and 22mm clasp if you got those in stock.
Definately an 18mm and unbranded or reverse name for those that wear opposite side!! Great clasp, I have already two!!
Awesome, thanks.
Marc, do this! That Formex clasp is not only cool but functional as well.
Nice! you got a version without the branding now.
Terrific idea, and one that I've been waiting on. I'll be a buyer when they're made for 18mm ends.
I’ve never paid much attention to clasps because I have bracelets on my Omegas, with backup Omega leather straps, and all my other watches are on NATO straps. It was really interesting to learn about these clasps.

I'd rock it with the brand logo too, but more size options would be killer!

I love the idea of a deployant with the possibility of small adjustments. I think they will sell well.
No, it's tucked away nicely.
100% would buy a couple of these, i almost got a formex just for the cool features
Thank you
Besides sizing, a leather strap would last longer or at least, it will not start to crack on the stress points from a regular clasp. You should your own model, Mark, cheaper it would be great :D
Great tip! :)
This is extremely similar to the clasps used on the Montblanc 1858 Chrono.
I am very interested in it branded or not sadly they are 98 now.
I know this is an old post, but did they make this clasp unbranded ?
Thank you
Yes it is always true, the really cool stuff is out of my budget. What about carbon clasp too?
I might bring that in too.
I thought the clasp was going to be exposed while worn, I think that aesthetic would look great, even on a dress watch, but it's still an interesting product nonetheless.
OMFG FORMEX PLEASE MAKE THIS IN OTHER SIZES THIS IS INCREDIBLE
Ok!!!!!
Incorporates what appears to be a pin buckle. Unlike traditional deployants, will that cause the strap to be marred?
As long as you have flexibility in the tail, no.
Looks really well designed and made,. If my house doesn't get burned down by rioters tonight I'm totally getting one of those.
Stay safe
LOL. I hope.
Would definitely purchase that and would love to see them in the 3 sizes
Thanks.
I’d take one with or without the branding
Thank you.
I bought a 20 & 22mm off of aliexpress back in January. Work great on both watches. Can't beat the price of 9.99 USD delivered.
What's it called?
@@sammy0167 don’t believe that moron.
May I kindly ask for the link too thanks!

Did they ever make a non branded version of this?
Really like that clasp!
Did the no branded version ever make it to market?
Unbranded version for a 18mm,20mm and 22mm would be awesome
Wait a minute. I want to know more about the flightmaster Seiko 5 bracelet. How exactly did you make 22mm that fit? No that would be a great video.
Ground it down with a Dremel

Will we get to see Islander watches on your watch your way anytime soon?
Eventually
Yes please do the unbranded ones. I would buy
Will that clasp fit my panerai alligator strap? If it does , I’ll have one please.
Hi marc do you sell case backs? An exhibition case back for a watch with a solid case back or a vice versa? Great vid as always 👍
No, sorry
Could you recommend a deployant clasp for a 22mm Hirsch Aryton strap? Thanks!
I would buy this in 20mm and 22mm in an unbranded version.

Yes
Would buy without a doubt in an 18mm unbranded version
Thank you
Looks awesome. Count me in for a 20/18mm!

Hi mark do they work on a steel bracelet
I'd buy one(or three), but only if unbranded.
Unbranded Version Would Look Great on a SKX007. Yes Please I'm in
Genius mate! Love it.
Glad you like it!
I tried to buy one from the link but it’s sold out. When are you getting more?
Give me a week or so!
It should be a requirement to list what thicknesses it can be used for. Many sellers do not include this.
