    Honestly, I just started but what surprised me the most is the attention to detail my coach has. I really like it though because it makes it easy for me to adjust to the right things because he’s like that. Mannnnnn I have been doing multiple different sports most of my life but nothing made me as sore as wrestling

    The biggest challenge for me was learning to remain relaxed while selling. In a match, the outward shell has to project pain or intensity via facial expressions and body language; while simultaneously remaining relaxed and pliable. Whereas, with acting, you allow your whole being to get immersed in the moment. In month 1, I was so tense that I would gas out in 3 minutes. Now in month 5, I can relax enough to go 15.

    It may sound stupid, but I was really taken aback when people started selling and overall getting in character during training. I mean, it absolutely makes sense - this is also something you need to practice and as a rookie hands down one of the most weird things to practice. The first time I tried selling myself, I felt so strange. There is no audience, there is nobody telling you to do it. But the second I started trying it, I also started getting feedback on it like "Hey, this was the first lock in the sequence, so don't oversell" or "Keep showing your face, even if the natural instinct would be to curl up".
    And I absolutely agree to No 4. My first training had me sore for 4 days. I only learned the week after that there are actually two sessions per week. Took me about a month, now the soreness usually only lasts for a day or two.
    Thanks for all the insights! Your channel is such a great resource and you are a really good teacher!

    I just started training pro wrestling September 27th. It definitely makes me respect the sport more then after. The soreness is so worth it, I learn more about myself every time I train. I also talk to other experience pro wrestlers to get advice from them.

    If I wasn't in my 30's, I would definitely take up training. I was a competitive kickboxer for 8 years, trained BJJ that entire time, and wrestled from 6 years old through college. I'm 6'5 and fairly strong (I can deadlift over 600 still). But, time is a bastard lol. Oh, I also did theater for most of my schooling (from a small kid up through high school) too. I think it would be hard as shit, but I think, enjoying both sports and acting, I would have a blast. I don't think I'd be super good or anything, but I think I would have so much fun training and wrestling in smaller shows.

    All of these definitely ring true to me.
    I started training in September. I had never once considered the foot work. I'm fortunate that I've watched so much wrestling that I've grasped a lot of the moves fairly quickly from the waist up, but foot work? That was a real blow my mind moment when I realized my feet had to be in certain positions for even simple moves like a lock up or head lock.
    Also, preparing for the pain. I'm 6 weeks in and still have soreness if we have a bump heavy session. Which really sucks when you're day job is physical labour for 12hrs a day, 5 days a week like me lol.

    We have some papers with different phrases and sayings that are useful to keep in mind posted up in the training area, and one of them specifically stands out to me in relation to what's discussed here: "Footwork gets you noticed...one way or the other." It's easy to remember that having good footwork in a benefit, but at the same time it's surprisingly easy to also forget that bad footwork makes itself very clear, especially to an experienced coach's eye.
    Some aspects of the psychology of selling, too, definitely took some time to grasp. Finding that middle ground between staying down and selling a beating, but still being in the fight enough that the crowd is going to still want to get behind you is quite tricky. I find myself using a "rope scale" to help aid myself in how "up" or "down" I should be, where different levels of heat should have me being in line with one of each of the three ropes, depending on what the demand for that part of the heat might be. DEFINITELY not something a person coming in is likely to realize until it's explained to them.

    • @TilWeMakeIt
      @TilWeMakeIt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Rope Scale" and later "Life Meter" as ways to gauge your selling are really helpful for beginners to internalize. I wonder how many other variants on these ideas are out there...

    Great video and great info! I can attest to number 4, because I did both powerlifting and martial arts for many years and neither of them fully prepared me for the rigors of the ring!
    Also, can you please make a video on what's the best way to decide who is going to go over in a match, if the promoter leaves it up to the wrestlers? I've been caught in this situation a few times recently and don't really know the right way to respond.

    I started training back in March of 2024 and one thing that caught me off guard was the amount of conditioning floor exercises i had to do. The biggest thing was that with a simple workout, i was struggling. From hindu pushups, to doing a bridge. My arms was killing me. I am afraid that my fitness level is not up to par. Right now im taking a break to tend to other things in my life but once i return, i hope i dont feel discouraged again. I can do a better job with my diet too. Maybe that'll help. Feel free to drop any tips anyone!

Once I transfer colleges and finish, I'm thinking about enrolling in Ricky's school but I was born with a physical disability so I fear I might likely got fetuses in needed, but could I still do it? I started class and for three weeks following day after practice my next is so stiff and sore. I belive it's when I take my bumps I tighten my neck each time. Any help? Coach says my neck will get used to it. I can't move my head for 3 days. Thank you and live the videos.

    • @TilWeMakeIt
      @TilWeMakeIt  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes! Do any neck strengthening exercises you can to overcome this. Some you can do at home. For example, lay on your bed, and hang your head over the edge of the bed. Use just your neck muscles to lift your head up until you can touch your chin to your chest, then lower it back down. Do sets of 10. Hold your head up, and do around-the-worlds in both directions. Again, sets of 10 (each direction.) Keep the whole rest of your body flat for these, so as to isolate your neck muscles, forcing them to do the work. Just moving something the weight of your head will start to build them up!
