    Absolutely wrong. The interview you showed is essentially marketing speak for “we don’t want the iPad and the Mac to have too many overlapping features because we want our costumers to buy both.” Apple has not been listening to us at all. The iPad, especially the Pro, is ridiculously expensive, and at such a heavy price point, there is no reason why the device should be lacking so many software features. People want macOS because it would immediately solve most if not all of the issues people have been complaining about for years. And yes, it would take some adjustment to allow it to be controlled via touch, but I think it 100% is necessary. Either that, or a full revamp of iPadOS is necessary. They say that the iPad is magical or whatever and can become anything, but I disagree because it’s software is so limiting that the only things is does best are watching media, gaming, and using the Apple Pencil. The hardware is world-class and it could become the magical product Apple says it is, but the iPad gets macOS or something similar, it will forever be an accessory device.

      Bro it literally is so dumb that iPadOS isn't more computer/mac-like because it's so powerful and now costs Macbook level amounts. Even with iPadOS being like a mac in this hypothetical, PEOPLE WOULD STILL BUY BOTH AS APPLE WANTS BECAUSE IPAD PROS ONLY HAVE THE BASE LEVEL CHIP AND LOW RAM! Mac sales are already constantly lowering. Instead of trying to encourage mac sales through stupid iPad bottlenecking, they should use iPad as a gateway to MacOS and replace the declining mac sales with ipad sales while making more updates to software that will be on both platforms, that way they can neglect ipads about as much without leaving customers without updates.

    I don’t want macOS on my iPad, but I want iPadOS and iPad apps to be more capable.
    I think it is definitely possible to make the app really capable while having a touch-first interface, Serif done it with their Affinity suite so I believe it could be done. A lot of app developers (including Apple themselves) don’t really see iPad as a pro creating tool, but more of a pro consuming tool, and it shows in the app they created, just look at what Adobe has done with Photoshop for iPad. Final Cut Pro for iPad doesn’t even play along with Final Cut Pro for mac, you can only “hand it over to the mac”. And when the project sent to a mac, I lose the ability to use AI soundtrack and live drawing. My point is, I hope iPad could be more capable by itself, and I hope it work better with my mac. They don’t have to replace each other, they just work differently.
    I love my M2 iPad Pro and I really would love to work more on it, please let me.

      You’re missing the point of a portable tablet like device. And the convenience of a portable computer like device. Two different tools. Computers are always going to be better at computer things that’s just where our technology is right now for another 20-30 years maybe. The human race moves slowly to adopt new ways of computing. Most of the older generation is used to using a mouse and keyboard. That’s why businesses and most systems use this traditional method of computing and why software developers are still making the best versions for this type of computer. iPads could be the next generation of computing and computers but it wouldn’t be adopted by most because it’s not familiar and requires learning curve and just doesn’t compare to this fast work style and flow they’ve created over decades already. So Apple keeps the iPad as a tablet and knows this demographic. People who need to manipulate content and creations on their huge advanced touch screen. If you use it as a Netflix device or try to do traditional computer work like editing videos it’s not going to be a very memorable device. But if you’re making digital art and animations with the Apple Pencil and using it as a MiDi controller for musicians or even digital art it shines. This device is the best in its category and that category your work might not be in there.. Does that make sense? Yes it can do a lot of things like edit videos and file mange but you’ll have to make compromises because it’s a touch based tablet. Made for drag and drop and other ways of doing things.

I don’t want my iPad to become a computer, I want my iPad to work better in an iPad-way, and I want iPad to work better with mac. Like I mentioned in the comment, I think it would be more interesting to use final cut if I can send the project to my mac for fast editing and send it back to my iPad (or just connect final cut for iPad to my mac) for AI soundtracks and live drawing. I understand that they are different tools and would perform better in different work, and I appreciate that. I enjoy working on iPad and I wish it would be more capable in its own way.

    • @Realdaveromero
      @Realdaveromero 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vincentchou2252 it does work well with Mac already! And Apple is working on a Mac version or Final Cut Pro right now with AI and a version that is more easily exchangeable with iPad Final Cut Pro projects it just takes time my friend. And the reason you can write on the screen with iPad Final Cut Pro is because it’s made for that and it’s made for a quick on the go version of video editing. If you have Final Cut Pro for Mac why would you want to use a quick option to write on the screen rather than use a professional font and font animations? Are you a professional video editor? What do you do for work?

    • @vincentchou2252
      @vincentchou2252 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Realdaveromero the reason live drawing is awesome is because it’s stylish, it makes your video unique with your own handwriting or drawing, which no existing font can provide. It is a creative choice. For most NLE on a traditional computer, it is a very time consuming process to achieve what live drawing on iPad can do in seconds, creators that have tried to pull this off on a traditional NLE would agree with me. It is not just for quickly putting words on the screen. It is called “Live Drawing” not “Live Writing”. Putting words on the screen through typing is not that hard and time consuming on iPad anyway, Apple did already support various fonts in FCP for iPad.
      This is actually the perfect example for what I mentioned in previous comments. The iPad is a great tool for the drawing part, and mac is a faster, more familiar editing experience. Just let iPad does what it does best and mac as well. Let them join forces and be great together. Don’t force me to use a traditional way that spends so many time, while iPad has live drawing but I just can’t access it if the project is already on my mac.
      As for the future updates you mentioned, they are not officially out yet so I can’t comment on them now. For now, it is just super hard for iPad to do what it does best to help the project once the project is sent to a mac. Also, if Apple really is developing updates that makes them work better together and can exchange projects, doesn’t that just prove my point?
      It is fine that you think there is nothing more to be desired for the iPad, good for you. But there are some people out there, hoping for an even better iPad experience because they love to work on their iPad so much. You don’t have to be so aggressive about it.

      @@RealdaveromeroExactly. I think that the nice thing about having an iPad is that when you need a laptop, you can attach a keyboard to it and when you need a notebook you can take it off and use the Apple Pencil. Obviously their is no right or wrong opinions on an iPad and if someone wants to have a desktop os on a tablet they should get a Surface Pro. But if you want a better touch screen experience, an iPad is also a good device and more apps are optomised on the iPad than on Android Tablets. And plus with a MacBook, you are stuck with the keyboard you get. But with an iPad, you can choose what keyboard you want to put on your device to make it more personal. And personally, all I do is use Microsoft Edge the on the iPad Pro, play games, study, and annotate. And I cannot onnotate on the HP laptop that I have with a stylus. And I use my the same way I use this iPad that I am typing on minus the annotating. For me, I don’t feel like getting a laptop over an iPad would benefit me that much.

    3:44 "The ipad is a tablet when you need it, a laptop when you need it"
    Yeah, no. The ipad is a tablet full stop. It's a good tablet, but a keyboard and trackpad does not a laptop make. Ipad os is far too limited to be a full laptop replacement. Trust me, I tried to replace a laptop with an ipad and kept running into limitations where I would have to grab my PC, macbook, or even my android phone, because Ipad os wouldn't let me do what I needed to do. I've downloaded apps and created shortcuts with the shortcut app to try and fill in the gaps, but it's just a stop gap measure. You can't even rename a photo in the photos app. I had to create a shortcut to copy an image to the files app, rename it there, copy it back to the photos app, and then clean up by deleting the now unneded copies. My main use for an ipad is drawing in procreate. This is unacceptable. I swear, if procreate ever releases on android, ill never buy another ipad.... unless of course I could run mac os on it.
    The reason they don't let you dual boot into macos on an ipad is because then you won't buy a macbook.

    If an iPad user wants a more pro file manager, then just download filebrowser pro from the app store. Also there is an element of user education as well, the built in files app is far more capable than people think. I agree a touch first device should have a touch first OS, and a desktop device should have a desktop OS… If you mix the two, that’s when you get a hideous Windows 8 user experience! You clearly get it ;)

    I don't agree with you. As some people mentioned in the comments, iPadOS lacks many features that macOS would completely fix. Definitely, macOS on an iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard would be an absolute MacBook Air killer. In that case, the MacBook Air should either adjust its specs to justify a higher price or lower its price to under $1,000. An iPad with macOS would be the ultimate Microsoft Surface Pro killer. For $1,400, having a machine capable of running a desktop OS, handling a pencil (and no one beats the Apple Pencil), and having a touchscreen would be an absolute game-changer.

    For people who dig deep into this it’s blatantly obvious that iPadOS is actually the more modern and far superior operating system, I go as far as to say iPadOS is much better than macOS and just has a few bugs to be fixed, for example true desktop sites for some apps (this is already the case for most apps) and the ability to allow for heavier background tasks as long as the compute cannot be done safely in the cloud

    iPadOS does not use the full potential of the hardware. iPad could replace the MacBook with a touch friendly MacOS but Apple doesn’t want it to get in the way of MacBook sales. So with the iPad you’re paying for an unnecessary spec of expensive hardware severely limited by software.

    Hot take here: I actually prefer the iPad desk setup over the Mac. It seems to me that iPadOS renders text and images better on external monitors than macOS; they are less pixelated. Also, the floating app windows combined with fluid animation make the whole experience more futuristic. I feel like iPadOS looks better than macOS.

Windows certainly has hybrid laptops and tablets that have both a touchscreen tablet interface as well as full windows capabilities. If Mac OS didn’t make sense on the iPad, you wouldn’t have so many people demanding it, Apple won’t do it though because it would be the end of their MacBooks. People would be buying 1 expensive item (ipad) instead of 2 (iPad and MacBook) in order to get one job done.

The only reason Apple is not doing this, is because it will jeopardize the sale of Mac, which even 16G memory will cost you additional 200 bucks. Both the iPad and the Mac are general purpose computers. They are not the same type of general purpose computer. I refer to the Mac as a conventional general purpose computer. The iPad is most definitely an unconventional computing device. It is different, idiosyncratic, atypical and all but eccentric. It still, however, a computer. A bicycle for the mind as Steve Jobs once described computers.
    I still use my analogy of transportation devices. Think of the Mac and the iPad as transportation devices. The Mac is like a Toyota SUV. The iPad is like a BMW Motorcycle. They are both vehicles, just as Mac and iPad are both computers. Ultimately the SUV is far more powerful than the motorcycle in terms of what it can do, but some people only need and prefer the motorcycle. Some people buy both, and use the one they need at the moment.
    Now think about what a motorcycle would look like if you tried to make it comparable in features to an SUV.

    Great video Nikias. I think so many people in the tech world try to paint this picture that the iPad needs to do more because it needs to fit their needs. But the truth is, the iPad was not made for the workflow of many tech reviewers. It was made for students, musicians, artists, doctors, pilots - the sort of professionals that need extreme mobility and the sandboxed nature of iPadOS. MacOS on the iPad would simply slow down their workflow and make for a more complicated experience. I myself am a musician, with both an iPad and MacBook. I reach for the iPad 9/10 for live music mixing, creating/reading charts, and even editing videos because everything is just so easy. Like you said, macOS is not made for touch and would slow down the artistic process for me and so many others. I agree 100%.

And there are things that the Mac can't do that the iPad can do like drawing and taking handwritten notes. And for casual web browsing, it is perfectly fine to use, and I never have more than two windows on the iPad screen ore my laptop screen. Apps on the iPad are perfectly optimized for the Apple Pencil and a big touch screen unlike an Android ablet that normally has big stretched out phone apps. And if you have a Mac or Windows laptop, why do you need a desktop os on a tablet?
