FFXIV - The Raven, Nevermore (Nael Deus Darnus Hard Mode Battle)

  • The hard mode of the fight from the mission "To Kill A Raven", from a DRG PoV. Party setup is PLD, MNK, DRG x2, WHM x2, THM x2. The cutscenes are the same as the normal mode, so they're not included.
    I hadn't forgotten about doing this fight! Things were just pretty busy for a lot of us irl so we weren't able to gather together to do it. Since I was so late to upload it, I'm sure anyone wanting to attempt it has read up on strategies. Besides, the DRG PoV really doesn't do justice to a lot of the complexities of this fight like the meteors and such.
    This run is actually pretty messy overall with a lot of deaths, but the battle is so long that you can recover. The key to this fight is being able to make it through a few key things. The first is making it through his initial Megaflare via Lunar Curtains or Battle Voice if using a BRD. The second is interrupting his Dalamund Dives in phase 2. Solid DDs will have no problem with this. The third is making it through the phase in which he summons a ton of golems. The MNK and mages should handle those while the DRGs push his HP down. The last is the meteor spam phase. This is probably the worst part, and relies heavily on having super skilled mages/ranged attackers. I won't even begin to explain it as it's complicated, I'll just link BG's strategy which explains every facet of the fight really well.
    bluegarter.guildwork.com/forum...
    As an aside, yeah I know I died 2x in this video. The first time, I pulled hate... I got him off of me, but he hit me then aoed, not much I could do. The second, I'm not sure what happened. 99 and I were both behind him, and we were somehow still hit by his beam. It might be because he turned just a little as he fired it, I'm not sure, that was the only time anything like that had happened.
    Anyway, it's looking like this is about the end of 1.0 content. I will of course be uploading videos of the final end of the world events, and I plan to make a little compilation video of FFXIV 1.0 as well~
    Thanks for watching!

    As someone who never played 1.0, was there no concept of aggro? The lancers (dragoons?) are the first to start the fight and nowadays that would lead to a lot of twisted panties.

    • @Klefth
      @Klefth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There was, and if you watch, one of the DRGs gets killed at some point. Managing your aggro was an important part of DPSing, and tanks actually had to TRY to maintain aggro too. To really DPS efficiently, you had to make smart use of aggro reducing tools and also space your burstier combos more intelligently, as well as actually have a good tank; a bad tank meant you had to constantly hold back your DPS to keep from pulling the boss. Nowadays there IS no concept of aggro whatsoever in XIV, just put on tank stance and keep it forever pretty much. They made it so the only time aggro is even relevant is for tank swaps.

    • @Longlius
      @Longlius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dragoons opening was considered fine because dragoons in 1.0 were a kind of weird hybrid job that wore tanky armor so they could eat a few autos for the privilege of getting to start damage earlier.

    • @TrueChaoSclx
      @TrueChaoSclx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Longlius This was still kind of a thing in 2.x as well, with many armours being tanks + dragoon and having higher armour. I think they abandoned the concept finally in Heavensward, or very late ARR.

      Fights back then took a lot more awareness, though. First of all, you actually had to manage your TP and use your stuff efficiently to avoid any downtime whereas these days downtime doesn't exist as long as the boss is in range (or if you can slidecast as a mage), then you had to consider that animations were locked, so you had to be aware of what the boss was doing when choosing how to actually attack because some animations were longer than others, and then you actually had to be aware of what the boss itself was doing to dodge accordingly. Fights back then couldn't be boiled down to a literal flowchart as easily as anything since 2.0. Sometimes you're lucky if a mechanic just has a couple permutations, like the latest savage fights, but that's about all you get. It simply became a game of memorizing where to stand, while pressing a series of buttons that never changes no matter what (ideally anyway), without a care for timing, aggro management, and barely a care for positioning til a mechanic simply requires you to stand on a specific spot. I still have fun doing savage content these days, but it really isn't the same.

      @Klefth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@haaliaateden4821 If that's how you were playing, you had zero clue. You don't see that in this video either. If you knew how to manage your resources properly and had a good tank, you could combo nonstop. 1.0 had a higher skill floor where if you didn't know how to play your job well, your gameplay would pretty much come to a grinding halt, as opposed to ARR+ where if you have no idea what you're doing, you can still roll your face on the keyboard.
