- Here we have it, the climax and possibly final story battle of FFXIV 1.0!
This battle is actually fairly challenging for a story fight. You have to be on your toes and learn the ins and outs of everything Nael does. It's hard to explain in text, but the video shows a good position for everyone to be in. In the first phase, all you'll need to avoid is his linear attack. Just get to the side and a distance away and you'll avoid it. When you see a mention of Lunar Debris in the log, send a BLM up the stairs to kill the meteors that fall. If you fail to, your group will take massive damage. That's about all there is to the first phase.
After this, he gets serious. He adds another move to his mix, Lunar Dynamo. To avoid this move, you have to be within the circle he projects right before using it. As you can see though, this circle is not entirely accurate as several of us get hit while still inside it, so play it safe. He still does Lunar Chariot as well, so pay attention. Usually, he'll port away before using Chariot. If he uses Dynamo, he'll port to the same spot. This isn't always the case, however. Deal with the Lunar Debris the same way you did in phase 1. Otherwise, the most dangerous thing he does is where he will do two aoe knockbacks followed immediately by a Dynamo. if you're in range of this, you're pretty much toast regardless of where it looks like you are on the screen. I get hit by this here trying to get Ballad on someone who died. As you can see, it didn't matter where I ran, because I was in range for the first knockback I got hit by every attack. There's one other thing to note that we didn't encounter but I heard about. Whatever you do, don't let someone with hate on Nael go on the stairs. He'll apparently teleport to them and hit them for 9999. We never saw this however in the few runs we did for various people.
Once you get him down to about 10-15% of his HP the final part of the battle begins. He'll port up to the top platform, and will summon golems and then rain meteors down. Everyone has a different job here. Ranged characters, including WHMs, should stand on the stairs and focus on killing the meteors as they fall. Split your ranged up so that both sets of stairs are covered. A BLM and WHM duo can usually cover this, but I stayed with a pair that was having a little trouble to help out. If 3 meteors hit the ground, Nael will 1shot your party, so don't let any through.
Meanwhile, the melee dispose of the golems. MNK is great for this, as with Fists of Wind they do crazy damage to the golems. As soon as they're done, they join the tank up on the platform and begin damaging Nael. This phase ends once a certain amount of damage is done to Nael, after which he'll do a 2000ish damage Mega Flare, and then port back down. Everyone should run down the stairs as fast as they can to resume the fight. He can get more aggressive here with his AoEx2 to Dynamo combo, so be prepared for that. At this point, just try to burn him down as fast as you can while staying safe.
That's all there is to it! Dalamund is stopped, the world is safe and we celebrate our victory.

Not sure if you check this video anymore, but all I can say is that I hope the new final fantasy is 100% like this. This is what I loved...loved about final fantasy 11, group focused content and missions with epic boss fights. One thing I hate about modern MMO is that they feel like a solo game with a glorified chatroom. I may be crazy, but I honestly miss the day of needing a party to exp and do anything significant outside of raid content.

I would have loved to play 1.0 if for no other reason than this fight and the end of an era.

Seriously, though. Nice end to the story and final battle. Seems like a pretty good wrap-up in transition for 2.0.
I preferred a lot of the menu and spell sounds from 1.0. If only there was some way to incorporate them into 2.0.

Its interesting that while ARR after some time got better textures than 1.0, the game significantly pales in comparison when it comes to shaders. Lets hope the new shaders fix this.

true, to be honest sometimes I forget I'm looking through the lens of someone who likes exp parties that was a Red Mage when he first started FF11. People would be lining up to name their first born child after me just for a bit of my sweet, sweet Refresh lol. However, someone who was a melee damage dealer in old FF11 could spend days without an invite. So yeah...think your right, a medium is best for leveling.
BTW I take it you played FF11?

One thing I hope for is they keep expanding on the story line, and for when 2.0 is out, that you can do all the things from the 1.0 story.

I miss this game so much... I can't believe they took this game away from everyone who loved it. The combat was perfect, the graphics were unbelievable, the content was spot on. The open world feel of the game made it so easy to immerse yourself in it.
Same! FFXIV is definitely the last Final Fantasy for me, I quit ARR because it was disappointing as hell and now I just don't trust Square Enix with the games they make (I mean 13, 13-2, 13-3 as well.. not my games haha).

As a fan of FFXI who played it for 5 years on and off, and maxed every job, with 2 accounts. FFXIV 1.0 (the supposed spiritual successor) was a disgrace to anything FF, and burned to the ground as it was meant to. There was nothing good about the game, you clearly didn't play it from the start if you felt the 1 minute lag opening a menu, or a game with no maps, no transportation, no complete story, or repeat maps and one single content leve's was "perfect"
I don't care how old these comments are, the sheer ignorance from them is actually shocking. You can like what you want, for all I care love it... but to say this game had perfect combat, and an "immersive world" is just blasphemy.
Moreover, to the comments about Yoshi.P. making the game worst, just an FYI for the morons. It was HIS TEAM, that completed 1.0 and gave it content. All the "story" and battles you got a chance to complete was because of what they did.

It would be a damn shame if XIV doesn't recover. So much potential would be flushed down the drain. The next few months truly will decide it's future though.
Watching that ending to this video felt like a piece of me died knowing how hard this game has been panned, even shunned. If they just listened to the playerbase...

Seems kind of boring for a final story quest battle. People just stand around and spam skills and that's that. I guess it feels more Final Fantasy because it almost feels turn based and like one person could be controlling the whole party. The White Mages look asleep for most of it lol. People really do look at 1.0 with nostalgia goggles.

Fast Paced Action Based = More on your muscle-bound muscle-memory reflexes.
"Turn based" = More on your tactical decisions.

I heard that the devs for 1.0 were forced to use XIII's crappy old game engine. But holy shit it's really amazing how much the got out of it!

This game was better than ARR. We didn't have so many scrubs and trash casuals infesting the game. Everyone knew the basics and beyond. They cared and put effort. Now this garbage ARR is totally the opposite and will die a beautiful death soon. Subs are bleeding like a woman on period, So yeah. later scrubs, enjoy Final Fashion XIV while it last.
