Magpies are very smart and probably the easiest bird to tame. My mum used to feed them all the time with raw mince meat, they loved it. But when it got light early in the morning and my mum didnt go outside and feed them, the magpies would go around to all the windows on the house tapping on them until they woke someone up to feed them.
Adorable! What a precious thing to witness. Thank you to the man who rescued Magpie, and the lovely way he treats both his animals. There is a huge amount of trust in both animals, and that is a key indicator of their human companion's kindness. Thanks for the video!
Its really sweet of Tony to let the lil bird in his work place. Magpies remember the kindness people show them and they would ... If they could... Return the favour
Oh my oh my!!! so gorgeous a baby Magpie*****how wonderful you people are for giving it food and all the love it needs to be even more magnificient ******* clearly fell from a nest and found a new home with you? ******xxxxxx you are amazing and total love and respect all the ways***************
Thank you for your comment. I created the video after filming my visit. I was later told by Tony that the magpie fledged successfully and joined the local flock.
A lot of commenter don't know that this is a juvenile bird and it's why it makes a lot of noise especially when fed. In the wild the clutch has 4-5 eggs and they have to be noisy so the parent birds keep feeding them all day long. The adult bird has a richer variation of chirps and would not be noisy like the young. They are very intelligent birds. There was a a pair raising chicks near my window and they attacked anything that is a threat for their chicks including big crows. They even land right next to crows and wait for the crow to take off as they're faster and more agile in the air they can easily pluck tail's on the crow's tail while flying. I swear they knew i was no harm to their young and would treat me peacefully even with curious and intelligent looks. When I saw how hard the parents work to feed the young returning to the nest every min or two with food the whole day, I developped respect for them. A month or more later i saw the youngs flying around and acting like children very sweet and cute, and still getting fed by the adults . They look bigger than the adult because their feathers are still fluffy. The adult look more streamlined. This video reminded me of them.
That was great to read. There is noway those birds would have laid those eggs there if they hadn't the same respect you had for them. I get a lot of the same crows/magpies (afaik) that seem to just love chilling out on my fence as I work around the garden. Birds appreciate chill good vibes.
Maggies have guts, that's for sure, we have heaps here and they attack the hawks, goshawks and even the eagles to keep them away, which is great for us, because it keeps them away from our pets too. Is amazing to see a dozen magpies all work together to chase off a full sized eagle...
Juvenile male about 4 months old I estimate. I have many who come to my house. Lol, one of my sons says. Dad you will be get a bad review off them They like prompt service. Check out the Magpie Whisperer on TH-cam. Very informative and many great videos.
Wonderful Story Stephen Powell....tony is an awesome dude AND Magpie has him just where Magpie wants tony to be...LOL...The Dog is so sweet too...great disposition ! Cheers Everyone
Just like traveling over to Australia. This brings out so much h happiness. A true individual with a heart of gold. Thanks for uploading this and look forward to flying back soon from the United States Of America. 🇦🇺💙
Wow, I love this sweet, happy, talkative little bird. She or he would be nice company as s/he is so happy. Birds live in flocks in their natural habitats, thus they get lonely easy, thus including this little magpie in all of the family activities, or just hanging out in the same room with her/him is really good for them as they need the attention and companionship.
Listen. What makes you think he's so happy?? Just because his call sounds happy to you? The bird is hungry "all the time" like it says in the video. It is asking to be fed most of the time. See the downy feathers? It is a fledgling and cannot forage for food yet. Don't anthropomorphize.
"You can tell a lot about a guy by the way he treats animals!" I'm serious, I was thinking the exact same thing when I was watching this. Tony's a good guy in my book. For those who don't know, birds are some of the most affectionate pets you can have.
And the fact that doggo has a complete tail and complete ears, and has not been mutilated to make it look more aggressive. (That may be the law in Oz, I suspect it is.)
My heart is full and I'm all warmed up inside. God commanded us to do many things and one of the greatest was to care for all of the creatures on the earth . I truly am thankful for those responsibilities. My mother used to get a big smile about all of the critters that I would bring home. I loved them all. I even had a pet crow at the same time that my best friend did.(from diff. places) Smile & much love to all.
Thank you for your comment I posted the video to share the encounter with the world. Wildlife inspired a good part of my life. Artist, photographer, and Africa tour guide. www.stephenpowell.com.au
People say Magpies are bad, this isn't true. They're apart of the same genus as the Crow and Raven. Essentially, they're extremely smart. And they do have memories of who treated them right, and who treated them badly. They're awesome birds.
Birds are amazing--just another reason for me to not eat eggs (as I have a family history of Cancer the choline in eggs is the other). Charming video--Thank you
I had no idea how my interaction with the magpie was going to go, I just kept filming! I was pleased with the outcome, enjoyed the experience and uplifted by the kindness being shown. In the end the story and the content has mad it popular despite my rookie video skills.
Not surprised the Rottie was so gentle with it, mine scares all others human and canine with his apperance, but is as gentle as anything. He even kept his temper when attacked by a female Dobie .
Magpies are the best, i have a cat that tried to get a big one that was sitting on the roof, he snuck up on it for a good 2 minutes then last second the magpie turns around and charges him hahaha

Wow I wonder what happened to her mom and dad...most babies with no parents would die, but how lucky this youngster was that her temerity/intelligence and those people's kindness/patience coincided! I have a cat like that, a street cat that we rescued and once she figured out we weren't going to hurt her she never shut up in her quest for treats. My husband calls her a "troublemaker," I say, "she knows how to get what she wants...you give in to her every time!"
This little buddy sure is talkative! Seems like it just fled the nest, its beak has a lighter shade on the insides. Probably hasn't learned to be cautious of humans (and dogs) yet.

All credit goes to Tony! He was caring for the magpie in his shop!
Magpie babies are so funny. Love them.

Aww what an awesome bird. I love his lil squeaks lol
Wonderful
Birds are underrated af, they're essentially small dinosaurs.
Compare a T-rex and a magpie. I wouldn't say that the magpie is underrated, it's simply nowhere as impressive as a real dinosaur.
They're more intelligent though. Eurasian Magpies are almost as intelligent as humans - and more intelligent than dolphins.
+Chilapa - compare a cassowary to T-rex and then you will find the similarities. Cassowary is as dangerous to human as a T-rex would be.
Cassowaries are a large bird and can be dangerous if cornered or threatened as with any wild creature. Some are regular and welcome visitors to some peoples gardens. Welcoming a T-rex, I think not!
dinosaurs never existed
Great Video.

gorgeous rottie, rad bird.

Wonderful. Auto shops in US have pets cats and dogs. In Australia they get resident dinosaurs!
I remember having a kazoo as a kid that sounded just like that.
Perfect name for this magpie. Kazoo
Bravo Monsieur , c'est très beau , merci.
Nice to see two different animals getting on well.
Very heartwarming video... Please consider treating farm animals well as well by refusing to pay for their slaughter.
Nah. Like the bird in the video I get hungry.
I will however not support halal, kosher or buy American meat.
Made me smile , thanks....
Animals make people better humans, reminds them they have a heart.
Someone needs to dub over the magpie.
"Someone answer the phone! ... Finally! ... Are you serious?! What? Are you too good to answer the phone?"
Superb! Onya Tony. My fiancee and I love our maggies...great video thanks.
Thank you!
Are magpies as mischievous as the cartoon characters Heckle and Jeckle?

Is it coincidence that the magpie sounds like a tire gun ?
lol
True. I thought at first it was the telephone, and that he is just an immature bird. But you are right, it is the tire gun he's mimicking. Good call!
That's the reason the guy liked it in the first place:)

You don't have to get it from a vet but true its very important.
