As an Illinois farmers wife, I know what the No Drift sign is all about. It refers to the weed spray for GMO crops that are applied with large sprayers that may indeed drift, usually due to wind.
Thank you for confirming my suspicion. I live in Indiana and have grown up around farms all my life, but I don't recall ever seeing one of these signs. That being said, my suspicion was pesticide and/or herbicide spray drift.
Bioluminescence was one the greatest ideas of whoever or whatever created the universe. I’m so grateful to live where the lightning bugs are crazy beautiful.
Yep, I live in a neighborhood where nobody sprays chemicals to kill the bugs, every evening this time of year, and for most of the past month it's always nice to see the nightly show.
Been watching since I was recommended the Indiana to Illinois video. I guess the algorithm knew I like adventures and live in Illinois. Went back to the beginning, am now up to around Athens, OH and will watch the Mississippi trip next. I live next to a creek that feeds into a tributary of the Illinois and have always dreamed about a home to gulf journey. Thanks for the journeys!
No bulls in a China shop here... yes Corn corn corn corn Beautiful sky's at sunset, not many bugs ? You two compliment each other well on the road/ trail.I think I'd be worried sick if I didn't see my hiking partner for 1/2 hour while road walking...the difference between seasoned veterans and newbies.Much respect
We generally set rally points on trail so we don’t get too far separated. Here we often have longer visibility and also cell coverage so it’s easier to stay in touch if we want to walk apart and listen to audio books for a few hours
Right at your correctional break w/turtle Fives started laughing w/Jen...and ...all cuteness stopped when I rewind the vid & say ACTION ! I'll get her yet !!:)
Another channel I watch is heavily involved with activities at Fort du Chartres. Fun crossover for me - your channels couldn’t be more different. Early American is a cooking/history channel.
Matt, I can definitely see a consistent uptick in your moral since Jen rejoined you. Just as you were telling us you couldn't capture lightning bugs on the camera, one flares right in front of you.
50 years ago....50 years?......gees I'm old....anyway, 50 years ago I went on my one and only bicycle trip, which at one point a kid in a passing convertible said, "Look mom...a hippie!" Must have been my long red hair, and I couldn't help but laugh. Anyway, on the way back I looked for a place to pitch my tent and decided on an access point to a......cornfield. There was no gate or fence, had plenty of long grass to cushion the tent, and late enough that nobody protested. All I was looking for was a place to lay my head.
There were all sorts of nice folks up there who came looking for me or stopped as they were driving by. One guy was delivering organs or something and stopped a few times to bring me sandwiches and such
According ti Google -"A "No Drift Zone" sign is a sign that alerts people to the presence of specialty crops that are sensitive to pesticides. These signs can help increase awareness and communication between growers and pesticide applicators."
recently i was staying at open arms hostel and a hiker recommended to me best thing she found was coconut oil helped with schaffing issues. enjoy all ur videos n seeing all the areas happy trails to u both
I’ve found that at least for me chaffing solutions that work in one climate often don’t work in a different one. So I often have to try new things as I’m traveling to different parts of the country
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes She has no culture, Matt. 😂 I have been a ninja watcher of your channel since the Florida trail. I really enjoy your videos.
The obvious solution is we need to get Ryan George to do a children of the corn pitch meeting. That channel is pretty much the primary way she consumes old movies.

I agree! I get to enjoy it underwater often enough but lightning bugs are just extra awesome
Love it when Miss Taters uses “ish” with her words. So cute 🥰
What a stunning home sweet home.

Fort De Chart is the general pronunciation, 😊 and yes, I’m looking at your back catalogue
Thanks, fun video. ✌🏻👊🏼

Did anybody else think that long bridge was kinda hypnotic? Very nice B&B!

So glad you get to see so many fireflies! So beautiful!

Awe! It makes me so happy to imagine that anyway! But I hope you get it on video at some point! ❤
I'm glad to hear the weather has given you a bit of a break, I'm sure it is still hot. Good luck and thanks!

As I recall you had remarkable luck in Canada with local motorists giving you beverages

Late start but a good day! No dogs and a bar with at least some kind of food. Hike on! Tortoise

Have you eaten any restaurant corn in your travels?
Not yet … for how much corn is out here, there’s not much in stores or restaurants. But maybe we just need to wait until harvest time in September?
I feel like you meant to say someone decided to put the toilet in the bedroom 😂
Roll over Beethoven! 😜
Are you guys still in the area? I live in Monroe County IL which you will be walking through along the bluffs on your way to St. Louis
No, the videos are about a week behind. We’re through St. Louis and on to the Katy trail now
Fried frog is absolutely delicious! 🐸
Tell tators to try scratching a turtle's back, from what I understand they enjoy it.
Does Jen know about the Children of the Corn?
I was tired of her not understanding my reference’s so I showed her the original trailer but she just looked confused

@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Either that or we get a bunch of turtles to reenact scenes from the Children of the Corn.
❤
Sure hope you made it through East St. Louis. Nasty place!
Hey Y'all, one foot in front of the other, repeat. And look, there is more corn to come!

A+ to that AIRBNB architectural hack. Stay cla$$y AIRBNB!
That wasn't an air bnb dude, it was a regular bed and breakfast.
Seems to be a trend. We’ve stayed in a few where the bathroom was just separated by a curtain instead of any sort of door
