My folks have moved 6 times throughout their 60 year marriage. Dad would get promoted and moved to a new state. My Mom only asked for one change each move, " I'll move into this house if you add a screen porch." So, my father has built 6 screened porches and we have loved them all. You're going to really enjoy it. However, my Dad always added a ceiling fan to move hot air in summer. You all might want to consider hiring an electrician to put one in and wire it for this Spring. Down here in Nashville a screen porch is a necessity because of the mosquitoes. I love mine. Happy Porch Sitting, Arika.

Dear Marion, you did GREAT!! Even gave yourself TWO thumbs up! Nice! My husband said he is "NOT A PLUMBER ZIA!!" when he installed a new wax ring for our toilet, discovered the flange was broken on one side, (we have steel pipe), repaired the flange with a kit and a little rigging, bought a new plain wax ring to replace the fancy all in one his wife bought because "that one was dumb." HAHAHA!...all because his wife NEEDED the caps replaced (bolts were basically trash)....AND THEN...installed our new vanity which also required adjustments LOOOOOTS of frustration for him. I cheered. I brought water. I gave him a break when the frustration level spiked to the red zone. haha. Where would we be without our non-XYZ husbands? Y'all are the best!!

I remember you saying several times how you would love a screened in porch, so I thought for sure you would definitely have one. I love them, no matter the weather you can still sit out on the porch. Y'all make a great team.

How wonderful for you to have a screened in porch! I have always wanted one on my house too. You will love it. Kudos to Marion for his building skills and for teaching Jackson some skills! Nothing worse than being all ready to do a home project and then having to do way more than expected that ends up holding up the project. At least you guys have a strong sturdy porch for many years to come. Great idea for a screened in porch. They are wonderful and no mosquitoes in the summer!!! It is such a blessing to have a spouse that is very handy around the house. Marion deserves a huge steak dinner. Lol. Looking forward to the next video.

My goodness Arika! That porch will be out of this world. And you know years down the road you can always add windows if you wish. My best friend did that and she even put the blinds like you put on sliding glass doors all around hers for privacy. It is really now and extra room for her. She has real living room chairs and a loveseat in it with a coffee table and a couple of end tables. Great job my friend, and the paint job just made it all come alive. I can’t wait to see the rest of it.

Because we live in the mountains the only place for a porch is the front. We have huge concrete back steps. So we feel like you and we’re going to do what our family needs. Right now it’s just a deck, so we have a lot of work to do!

I just love what you all have done! You are going to love a screened in porch and it will be beautiful! I have a screened in back porch and I can say it is so nice to have.....so cozy and relaxing. I love that your space is now sturdy and safe. I really think you are going to like the 4 steps. We own my childhood home and years back my son built my mom a staircase coming in to the house with the shorter steps. Now as my husband and I are getting older I realize what a blessing they are. Your space is so beautiful so far and I can't wait for your next video.

Looks great! I live in Louisiana and have lots of mosquitoes! We have a screened in patio! I love, love it! The only way to be able to sit outside with our pool! I would consider screening my front porch! My husband and I did a lot of our home projects when we were younger! Wish we could still do them!

I am living to see Part 2!! So much good stuff - don't you love when you can hire GOOD contractors who know what they are doing and do a great job in a timely manner? I am amazed at how quickly they had your porch in tip-top shape. I was already admiring Marion's skills just watching him paint the ceiling - wow! did that make a big difference - but him tackling all that rebuild and framing was Superman status. You were no slacker, either, BTW! Love the new porch lantern and mailbox.

Oh girl we have a 20’ x 20’ deck overlooking our beautiful river in northern Indiana, and I would love to have an all purpose room over part of my deck, but of course, the lack of time and money always wins in the end! Great porch makeover. I love your channel. TFS sharing your life with us. ❤️

I love a screen porch! My house is the only one on the block without one. We just removed two deck to get an in ground pool. So maybe a screened gazebo.The bugs are so bad here. We are on the edge of the woods with a creek, so mid day is fine but morning and evening are very buggy. You will absolutely love it.

Awesome Job! and your husband is such a good guy. I had a 10 x 12 cover built for my back patio for about 1700 dollars. granted I have a metal roof and they used the same type for the roof of the cover so it would all match, but I love it and feel it is worth the money. Is nice sitting in the back yard with family, even in the rain.
Ok, so when you said you were screening in your front porch, my first thought was “oh no, don’t do that!”, but as I watched the progress, I found myself becoming more intrigued by it. Love the screened in porch! It will be beautiful! My sister hung bamboo blinds in her screened porch for times when the sun gets too hot or just a little more privacy is wanted. They look great! Can’t wait to see the next video!

I live in northeast Ohio, and there are many houses with screened in porches in the front of the house. They look fine. So you go for it. I’m sure it will be so awesome! And also fun to decorate

I can’t wait to see the final reveal, oh the reason we (southerners) paint the ceilings outside or underneath our porches blue is because of bugs if you paint them blue bugs think it’s a sky and they won’t build up or land or stay on your ceiling . Arika, I have a suggestion for covering the hole in your wicker couch. I got the idea from my own wicker bedroom set with carved wood handles. You can find decorative unfinished wood decor pieces at Michael's , Joanne's or Lowe's in various shapes and sizes . They tend to be thin , as well and inexpensive. All you need is some wood glue. Paint it black and voila! Extend the life of the couch a little more since it's already a pretty and comfortable piece.

We had a patio when we moved in and a couple of years ago we screened it in. My one and only non negotiable, refused to compromise on was a screen door. I love the sound of a screen door opening and closing. (Guess it's the Southern in me too!) We did ours in the dead of summer (and being from Texas you know). We use the fire out of it and my cat loves it out there.

But your house is a little bigger,because we're in Louisiana,and we don't have basements...but everything we do here is like pulling teeth. We had our back patio closed in by Home Depot...about 5 yrs. ago. Love my all weather sun-room. Had to have an air conditioning/heat vent put in. Have you thought ahead how rain water will drain off your porch? I noticed your husband did a really good job of sealing the bottom with wood (at floor level). I'm sure all this has been planned out. We had to put in 4 "French Drains" through out our back yard....water seemed to "pond" between our garage and sunroom. Always something....excited to see the end result.
I knew it!!! I just knew you and your hubby were going to put in a screen for your front porch. My in laws had done this too many yrs ago and it was just beautiful. They also had 2 screen doors one on each end of their porch.

Your going to find yourself on the porch alot. I have to clean my screened in porch every other day. It gets dirty fast because everyone uses it to come in and out. But I love it so much I don't mind cleaning it.
