They're burning billions of dollars per year - they're on pace to run out of cash in late 2025. They lose money on every vehicle they sell, and that's before they pay operating expenses or corporate overhead. This GA factory ain't helping either. They've already had an IPO and raised a staggering amount of money, then they also issued more debt. It's not looking good.
@@johnsonjjohnson100 Clearly you didn't understand my comment. I'm simply stating that the sign at the start is planted by the locals, which in turn almost always complain that jobs are being taken away from them and America in general, but then go and oppose this plant being built.

Ugh, not an engineer, but that standing water can’t be good. Looks like some more grading and reservoirs are needed. Once that part is done, it will be impressive to see how quickly the actual structures go up. This part is critical and takes the longest.
Awesome! Love to see Made in the USA. What I don't like are tax subsidies to make this happen (not sure if that is the case here or not). UPDATE: "The Rivian plant, which state leaders attracted with a reported $1.5 billion in incentives, is one of the biggest economic development deals in Georgia history with the promise of 7,500 new jobs." 😳
cfountain72, Update: Not one Rivian car will ever be built here, they will struggle to survive 5 more years. Like all other car makes they dramatically over-estimated EV sales and popularity.
I just read about the financial dealings on this plant. Wow. The State is giving them $1.5 billion (plus tax breaks, etc.), and the four counties are backing $15 billion in bond sales as a loan? Has anyone from the state or county looked at Rivian's horrendous financial situation? Do the locals have a plan B for this plant? I wish them the best, but I have seen this movie many times before and it hurts the citizens when the company goes away, and they are left holding the bag.
It’s a giant business campus. Across the highway there is a pharmaceutical factory and a Facebook data center. There is also a second data center being built. Plan B is just lease it to some other industrial use.
danlowe, NO the state and all backers and all involved have screwed up. EV sales are declining dramatically. They will struggle to survive 5 more years. They will never make it, not a doubt in my mind. EV car boom will go down as the biggest blunder in history. Tesla will be the only one to ever make money at it.
Hard to believe this site was announced back in fall 2021. Here we are about to be in spring 2024 and no buildings up yet. And rivian has burned about $14,000,000,000 in cash since this factory was announced.
You obviously haven’t been following the (many) legal challenges Rivian has faced since announcing this factory, which was actually December 2021.. not “the fall”.
the cash burn has been dramatically decreased since then, if you have a close look at the update surveys ,of course lots of investment but well fundamentals necessary to really ramp up production ,owners are really happy and excited ,and most of new clients are referrals, I beleive they made an amazing product ,really hard work throughout very complicated times ,and it will be a matter of time ,that they will get where the deserve.
@TheRutledgeEagle. - So much water, why did they choose a location with a dozen stream heads, three named rivers, and on top of substantial groundwater recharge area?
@@Eric-xp1kl They're losing more than $1B per quarter and flat sales, that $8B will be gone in just over a year from now. That's before they even start spending on the R2 factory.
Rivian will never assemble one car here. They will barely survive 5 more years. It might have helped if they did not try and make 40 k profit per car like all other car manufacturers. Now all of a sudden all EV makers are slashing car prices by 30 percent and more. Price gouging will cost all of them billions. If just one of them said wait a minute lets sale our cars 20 percent less than everyone else they would be leading the market and have thousands of loyal customers.

Quite a feat.
When did they break ground? How long is it going to take ?
A lot of infrastructure work ($$) necessary before they can start building the factory, then building the assembly line. Excited to see the progress!
Yeah baby

This has been a painfully slow build process...Hope Rivian can get moving at speed or this plant will be too late.
They can't afford it, already losing tons of money before even starting to build the factory which is a huge expense.
