- There's a Guidebook for FE7 by Nintendo Power.
Could it be even worse than the dreaded Fire Emblem Wiki?
Let's find out!

Reminder that the FE9 guide has the best simile ever "Sink faster than a third class ticket holder on the Titanic"
*laughs*
Wait, you're serious?
*laughs even harder*
Does it actually say that ?
I don't remember any specific jokes from the Nintendo Power Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door guide, but I do remember it being funny as hell.
Does anyone have any scans of that guide? I wanna see it
21:30 - I see nothing wrong with this, best guide ever.
Except it mentions keeping Pent close to her, right?
Well, this guide is going to have a few faults somewhere
Also the super secret unit Mangs and his S support with Louise hadn't been discovered yet
I actually own this book randomly. When I was a kid playing GBA I actually got a good amount of use from it back then.
Louise is an excellent waifu
Louise is so awesome she doesn't go to chapters, she goes into "missions"
Wow, this guide came out so long ago that Renault was still a soldier!
I still think that's a great explanation for his stats when you consider how FE7 treats magic swords in terms of a strength user's "magic" stat.
The Louise entry definitely sounds like something Mangs would write.
"... This is better than the Fire Emblem Wikia."
What isn't though?
That's not saying anything...
Reading the Wikia is a pitfall
A guide on ign for fire emblem fates is the worst guide I’ve ever read. Read chapter 10(relies on a small chit chance to beat the chapter on hard) chapter 11(tells you the chapter is impossible without having replicate along with a super high level unit)
Mangs
At least Mangs does not use Est
Guy has incredible strengh but karel's is kinda low. The writer probably got super rng blessed
Guy's strength is mediocre.
bobosmith101 yet the writer wrote that he has an amazing one
Guy only has a high critical damage with killing edge worth it a little
My first playthrough's Guy was actually super blessed. I wasn't expecting to use him all game long, but he leveled strength practically every level, so he nevee actually fell off. I think he may have capped by the end of my game.
Anyone noticed how Florina has magic weapons listed instead of the physical ones? Errors yay
And Renault has physical
Comentário Aleatório that's one heck of a way of accidentally referencing his backstory
I noticed Renault, but not Florina.
Renault has Lances and bows, eh Guide? That's an interesting combination.
Renault is a Fates Merchant
Mekkah out here looking for tips on how to beat Lloyd in his negative growths run
I actually own this guidebook myself, there's a funny error where Heath's bases are Harken's instead.
That'd be broken as fudge
move aside, melady
In defense of the "don't use several of the same unit" thing, for a first time player it seems like a good idea to try different unit classes, as you won't know what's good and what's not, and also you don't know how many of each promotion items are available and when, so it's better to spread out, as the game is likely to give you a mix of them early on. For an experienced player focusing on the good stuff is obviously preferable, but I do think the "diversify" advice is good for new players.
I've been playing Fe for years and I can't imagine ever making half of my army paladins, that's like the one thing that rubbed me with the vid.
Magikarpador Yeah, I would not do that either. It sounds quite boring :P As a new player, I would probably not have got more than 1 paladin, these days I would get 2-3, but I would not go much higher than that, simply because it would not be as fun.
@@AFnord playing fe11/12 hard 5 and the surplus of Cavaliers made me field almost all Paladins and Wyvern Knights. The move is so useful when one stray hit can kill a unit and make you restart a chapter
@@DaKrimch I haven't played hard 5 for Fe 11 but I played in hard 4 and finished it the only units that I got past chapter 3 is Lena, Abel, barst, Cord, Marth, Gordin, and Navarre (I did lose jagen ceada and Cain though)
@magikarpador off course you need some Falcon Knights and Wyvern Lords as well :)
To be fair, the death animation DOES make it look like the characters just disintegrate on the spot.
8:56 I didn't know Florina came with a D rank in light. Shit I've been using her wrong this entire time.
24:10
"I'm sorry Lara, your form was fantastic, the enthusiasm was there, but I'm just not feeling it today." -Pahn after Lara failed a dance.
You know Renault, with that great A rank in lances and bows.
i didn't know renault was an fe11 general
Wonder if those are renaults real weapon ranks from when he used to be a soldier lol...
Need a fan pic of Renault using a lance as an arrow with a big ass bow facing off against 3-13 archer
No mention on how Florina has a mastery in LIGHT MAGIC?
Also noticed that Renault can use lances and bows... Wtf?
@@markyjoe1990 not mentioning that magic doesnt exist.
I mean, it makes a good accidental reference to Renault spending more of his life as a mercenary than a bishop.
Hax characters!
@@D.Dragon mercenaries can't even use either lol
At least it don't says that Eliwood is the father of Luchina and can also be related to Sue
To be honest, what can you expect from an official guidebook, it is obviously going to be very loose and not opinion based for reasons such as this, really it is just there to give players first starting off some insight into some of the characters
Exactly what I was thinking. The guide isn't aimed at hardcore FE players since they most likely weren't all that many. Besides, I doubt the people who wrote it had that much time to play the game, which resulted in a biased and personal player's guide.
Yes because they also wanted to release it as soon as possible so just played a really casual play through to get info on each character
I agree on this. For a first time guide, this was surprisingly on point. At best, they must have had 2 playthroughs of Lyn to Eliwood, and Lyn to Hector, which would explain a lot of the small errors that are lined into the few lines for each character.
Like for Guy and Wil, it must have been real STR blessings because of how they where introduced.
At the end of MY second play-through, I thought it was *normal* for Erk to have 14 defense after promotion on Hector normal mode on chapter 18
@@percher4824 Also I'm fairly sure that all of the reviews of characters are by necessity pointing out positive traits. When Mekkkah points out "maybe this entry should just say warriors are shit don't use this unit", I can tell he wouldn't get a job writing those descriptions. The majority of his criticisms are based on 'give a full well rounded essay on what purpose this character serves'.
When I was a kid I had guides for most N64 games and I thought they were indisputable words of wisdom from God. Even when my own in-game experience created contrary evidence to things the guide was saying, I deferred to the guide being correct and that I just wasn't doing something as well as I could be.
I'm kind of tempted to scan and upload some of the pages from my copy of the Sacred Stones guidebook and the Radiant Dawn Premiere Edition PRIMA guide. This was a fun bit of content to watch.
Do it if you can, please !
do it do it do it do it do it
does it have pole dancing ?
Do it!
Dew it
I CAN'T TRUST ANYTHING ANYMORE!
It's okay as long as you build an army
Be wary of muttons though...
The oswin entry sounds like a 2008 Mekkah TH-cam comment
9:00 I use Florina in every playthrough and I never noticed she only uses light magic. Thanks fire emblem guide book.
They thinked that guy have alot of strength because of the killing edge
The article on Louise... Why does it feel like Mangs was an editor on this?
This guide is why I always give boots to a general in fire emblem now.

8:50 Wait, can we just talk about her weapon ranks being displayed as magic? Florina has D rank in Light Magic, y'all!
They probably forgot that it's only her affinity is Light.
And Renault has an A in lances and bows.
@@growasowa3444 well he was a warrior in his lore
Who doesn't run monk Florina
Mage killer Harken
I think some of the affinities were wrong. Also, I like how it used the "sword/lance/axe/bow" weapon rank graphic for Renault. Nice to know he has A rank in lances and bows.
The dude was a FE11 general before he became a bishop. Who knew?
The way Mekkah said "Fimbulvetr" is so satisfying for me.

I've seen worse. I've seen the FE9 guide.
Ephraim225 I'm really curious about the FE9 guide now.
The FE9 guide is a masterpiece.
Wait, FE9 HAD a guide?
FE10 has a guide too. I own them both.

Good
I think some of the language might be weird because this was the first Fire Emblem game to come to the West. The way some of these are written makes me think that they wanted to make it more understandable to people who were used to conventional jrpgs
So this is where the Wiki got it's ideas from...
Time for some of us to edit those pages better in the glorious name of Mekkah! :v
This is better than the wiki though
Hey Mekkah! I'm the one who posted the guide on Reddit and I just wanted to say I'm really happy it inspired you to make this video!
28:44 I didn't knox Renault could use bows AND lances, I didn't know he was so OP!
he is actually the legendary founder of frelia.
Bows with 12 strength on the 2nd to last chapter? That’s a pass for me. Florina with light magic would be crazy though
I like these videos where you just talk over some chill music.
I think the reason they mentioned the shield for Heath and not the pegs is because he actually has the defense to at least partially tank and thus the Delphi shield gives him more options than it gives the others, who have to watch themselves even WITH the shield.
I didn't know Renault had A rank lances and bows.
Smh, didn't mention that Louise is a Mage Killer.
Thats... Sniper class in general
At least that's what Rebecca does for me.
I think mekkah should do a playthrough of fe7 but he is only allowed to use 1 of each type of unit (cavalier, healer, flier, anima Mage) stuff like that
I remember getting this book at Target a while ago. It was on the clearance shelf for like $3 I think, basically just begging somebody to take it. Before anybody asks, yes, I still have it. I looked for it and found it on my shelf after I found this video. It makes me laugh at how bad some things are.
Another note that probably is more evidence they didn't have time to play the game when they wrote the game, there is pretty much no notes or additions to how to tackle Hard-Mode. No additional notes to say the unit changes (including enemy stat increase or promotions), unit bonuses, or extra reinforcements for each level in Hard-Mode either.
25:02
Well, that didn't last long
Even Marcus' base description is top-tier
Peg Knight brings much dirtier image to my mind than Pegasus Knight.
Huh my FE7 Rom must be glitched since my Florina has D rank in lances instead of D rank in Light Magic
Hmm that's quite strange, have you tried turning it off and on again?
I have been waiting for this for too long. Let the pitfalls commence
>Kent is better than Sain
REEEEEEEEEE
I wonder if they even considered the concept of stat averages or just went entirely from personal experience. I’m definitely leaning towards the latter
Did the authors have access to units' bases and growths? (Could they, like, analyze the ROM?) If not, there's no way they could know what the averages should be.
The Louise Entry was totally made by Mangs.
Most of Jaffar 's crits are scripted, I think. That's why it gives the impression of having high critical, but once he joins, you find the sad true that Jaffar is not really that awesome.
Most? the only time where a script silencer is used is agains't leila
No my jaffar criting Maxine was not scriped
Anyone notice how they gave florina proficiency in light magic instead of lances?
Edit: and they gave Renault lances and bows... The hell?
8:30 Florina gets Light magic? Sick
I still have this guide and it actually really helped me fulfill the requirements for the side quest missions and recruit other characters I didn't know you could recruit. Plus I loved the artwork from the guide as well it was lit👌
Florina apparently has access to light magic who knew
I got the FE8 book last christmas. Being by the same people, its pretty similar.
I remember having the Nintendo Power guidebook for Path of Radiance (lol). I forget what exactly it said, what lies or rumors it propogated, but I do know it at least had tips like "don't have Jill talk to her dad unless she has A rank support with Lethe or Mist."
Is that the one that said Titania is a pole dancer?
Renault coming in with that A rank lances and bows apparently
33:58 even though Karla is only available in Hector Hard Mode, the graphic for her default stats shows stats for Eliwood's mode as well. They should have put a divider there.
Florina's entry has magic instead of weapons. Flying Monk?
Oscar Boscar that would be cool, pegasus knights already have pretty solid resistance
29:43 He's a good friend, sure, but a much better unit than me?!?
I did know florina started with a d rank in light magic.
I still own this guide book. Helped me a lot in recruiting the units
This is far better than i thought it would be
Renault’s entry says he uses lances and bows, is that some sort of hint at his previous work or is it just a typo?
Florina also has the wrong weapon set, so it's more likely than not a typo.
fe11 generals but from like 2002
You keep shit talking the Fire Emblem Wiki, but I feel that in recent years, it has cleaned up it's act a fair bit. It obviously still has PLENTY of room to improve, but it has risen above the meme-hole it once was.
If you max out Canas. He becomes a walking tank like Markus
18:02 Generally, I like to imagine sword masters as a unit that I can rely on to kill on unit if I really need someone to do it. I know it’s a bit sketchy but usually, if I have a problem with a certain enemy, my killing edge Myrmidon or Sword Master can either take care of it, or deal reliable damage, since it is kinda rare that a mrym/sword master has a bad hit rate.
Remnants of a simpler time when information wasn't as plentiful and the fan base was near to non-existent. It's fascinating to see how things change over time. It's obviously geared towards new players (as all guides are now that I think about it) who are more focused on making a 'balanced' army of one or two units per class rather than using what's purely the best. Entertaining going down memory lane though!
renault has a rank in lances and bows? bishop sounds pretty solid.
Hey, I actually saw this post and read through it myself. I find old and "bad" guides (especially published ones) really entertaining to read.
29:00 you can see that the guide messed up on Renault’s mastery levels, saying that he has rank A in spears and bows
what it should say with Renault: yoink his fortify staff and give it to pent
"'destroyed' like her body disintegrates..." Well what else do they do when they die?
I would say this was unnecessary but then I remembered this was Mekkah
So apparently Florina is a light magic user. Huh, I guess I've been using her wrong all this time.
29:00 Didn't know Renault has A Rank in Lances and Bows. You learn something every day.
i have the book and it was not bad as frankly it was made long before people really meta gamed the hell out of it
28:15
ummmm yep ... yep .... yep
her Strength isn't that impressive but with high luck and skill she can be a walking crit machine while dodging everything you throw at her
not because you're an FE7 archer you're automatically bad
Mr Bilter well you can also just put her big bro in front of her(preferably with supports) and let the sea of crits and massive attack stats rain on the enemy horde
i was never a fan of Dart since Hawkeye exists and i almost always sell the ocean seal to get Farina but imma try that
Have anyone else noticed that Florina aparently have light Magic now ?
Hey Mekkah, the entry about Oswin mentioning the boots reminded me of something: I wanted to ask you if giving the boots to your Dancer/Bard is viable in your opinion.
Thats also a decent use for them, but in GBAFE and others you can replicate that kind of extra movement for your dancer through smart rescue drops, meaning they can be kind of wasted. In games that lack rescue, that is probably the best use for the move stat booster, especially FE4 where your dancer can also get canto through the knight ring.
Yeah I do exactly that in FE4, it's really great!
People used to say dancer boots is a good idea but other than in FE4 I'm not a fan. Dancers generally can't afford to move very far in and have to stay protected, and they also can't ignore terrain like fliers can. A flier moving up to 10 squares every turn is going to get further than an 8 move flier being helped by an 8 move dancer taking all of that into account.
reyson can fly and canto though
You can't make an argument out of one piece of evidence. Reyson is the ONLY flying dancer. Literally every other dancer is infantry.
Heroes does not count either.
Never knew florinahad d rank light magic
Oh and Rebault cab use bows and lances. I should really use him never seen that weapon combo in fe7
ikr lol.
I never knew Renault had A rank in Lances and Bows I've been playing him wrong with light magic all these years
Plenty of it's wrong, but some of your issues with it are just due to your playstyle and mentality, like the preference for pushing ahead so larger focus on bases, canto etc. Also the wikia seems fine to me, the version of it when you reviewed it was horrendous but it's improved a lot, like with the character bio and removing header videos. I tried using the .org site but it's so frequently lacking in map and unit info aside from sheer stats so I just defaulted back to the wikia in the end.
I like how there was no mention of the guide showing Florina using Light Magic on her entry.
This guidebook truly is... spectacular
I loved this as a kid simply because it had a lot of the art and I had little access to the internet.
In Soviet Russia, boots move you
At least it doesn't say some unit is randomly immune to silver weapons.
With the sain entry, I’m pretty sure they were referring to their characteristics, how sain doesn’t act like a soldier, but Kent does
It says florina has a d rank in light
29:03 Apparently Renault uses lances and bows
i wonder if there's a rom hack out there that adds fatigue system
Renault has an a rank in lances? I used him wrong this whole time
Vaida is tough enough to take an arrow or two. Just not in the knee
Have you mentioned in another vid why you call Guy "Gee"? It's not a big deal, it just kinda threw me off the first time I heard it since I didn't realise that people pronounced it like that.
It's the Japanese pronunciation. There's no official English one to go by.
@@Mekkkah Well that's how it's said in the French where the name comes from.
"But its hard to rescue drop Hawkeye..." jesus Mekkah, very few people even used the rescue command in the first few games let alone rescue chain people to bosses to clear a chapter quicker.
Ostrava of Boletaria you're already aware of mekkah's content and ideas being centered around the goal of optimal play, right? obviously fire emblem doesn't absolutely need to be played at this level but some people do it anyway because it's fun to theorise and put this stuff into practice, or at least for them. so, of course the intricate details of con, aid, or whatever other part of the rescue mechanic and its applications is something mekkah's gonna discuss.
Refer to the very next sentence where I acknowledge this. I give this guide a lot of slack in this regard.
29:10 renault is my fave lance and bow unit the only one that can do that in the game I think
I think Florina is better, since shes a flier who can use light magic.
What ever happend to Mekkah that he is not like this anymore? Who dame you soo much that you change? We missed this Mekkah
