    They only way the use of the word "they" in exclusive classes like Journeyman and Dancer makes sense is if this guide predicted randomizers.

    • @slanax97
      @slanax97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Alternatively, the guide adheres to the concept of parallel universes in that every new playthrough is a new universe, and is talking about all the different incarnations of Ross, Tethys and whatnot. It's not just that the one Journeyman you get is weak, it's that all Journeymen from all universes are weak.
      ...am I giving the guide too much credit? Probably.

      According to a random GameFAQs guide I found apparently the Great Shield takes precedence since how Pierce works is it ignores Def whereas Great Shield ignores Dmg altogether, so I guess it's like in that moment the General has 0 Def but the Wyvern Knight has 0 Atk? So it tinks.

    As for the Youthful units thing, I can definetely relate to putting them in the arena being a horrible idea. On my first playthrough I tried training Ross in the chapter 5 arena, and soon realized that was a horrible idea. He got doubled by a pirate, but thankfully dodged the second hit, so I had time to yield.

    I get that they could have said like Ross instead of Journeyman but there could be other Journeymen in the world and you just don’t run into them, so it wouldn’t just apply to Ross. And when it comes to singular units like Pirate A.K.A. Ross, there are still enemy pirates in the game you run into, so it could be referring to them as well.

    You would think this "guide" would be for helping choose a promotion, so it would talk about caps and usable weapons or something. So bishops could look something like "Light magic coupled with the slayer skill makes bishops extremely effective at combating monsters. Just remember, like all magic users they are vulnerable to physical attacks, so be careful!" or something along those lines.

    Idk, I had this guide when I was little, cause I remember playing fe7 and 8 when they came out, and I thought it was decent.
    What was good about this to me was just showing the visuals of what the different classes were. I already played 7 so I guess I didnt need to take these descriptions for gospel, but I wanted to see what the new units looked like before I got to them, and i guess you could say this helped deciding what characters I wanted on my team, as the character sprites dont show what their purpose is as well as showing the unit sprites. In this day and age, where the only other data on the game was the purely text gamefaqs guides, so having visual shots of the maps and the class sprites was important to me.
    Still enjoyed the vid, just didnt see anyone defending the guide in the chat, so figured I'd be that one guy :p

  • @tiarabite
    @tiarabite 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Tbh one thing that I see you repeat a lot that miffs me(dunno if thats a phrase, you know what I mean) is that an assassin crit can usually make lethality obsolete due to KOing enemies...well, 20/1 assassin colm has average str of 12-13, same for marisa and 14-15 for joshua. And I guess in this context if you count say a killing edge or shamsir then that's 9 wpn mt so at max you're doing about 24 dmg total, so against bulky axe users even a crit(unless it's double crit) wouldn't defeat them or would just fall short of it.
    Also Riev has surprisingly high defence, with 16 base def at lvl 16. Even if you promote Artur or Moulder at lvl 20 and grind them to 16, their avgs are still short of Rievs by quite a bit. I'm guessing the guide makers were impressed by that aspect of Riev and it influenced the entry.

    • @Mekkkah
      @Mekkkah  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's some enemy types you don't ORKO with a crit + hit, but they are generally the ones you do not want to face. Other than maybe Cyclopses, enemy axe using classes tend to have low def. Generally, if Assassinate is needed to do significant damage, you probably shouldn't have fought that enemy to begin with. Or used Audhulma.

    • @tiarabite
      @tiarabite 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I stand corrected. Looking at the stats of enemy axe users, yeah they aren't as durable as I remembered. I was thinking mostly of cyclopses. I also assumed OHKO but ORKO makes more sense I guess since assassins have pretty good spd.

    You ask repeatedly what the point of this even is, and I think it's simply to list the weapons, max stats, etc of each class. That's useful information (although it would've been nice to know base weapon ranks as well...) The short description is pretty much just there as fluff text or to mention some non-obvious trait.
    Now, the fluff text definitely could've been better written, but I don't think this section would make sense to combine with the character guide.

    I'm going to argue in favor of a class guide, especially for newer players. Deciding between promotion paths is not that easy for newer players and knowing which path to choose depends on understanding the abilities of each class. I get your issues with this guide, some characters are better in certain classes and this guide doesn't reflect that plus the information is incomplete and inaccurate, but my point still stands.

    I know it's a pitfall but I like using at least one of most units (sometimes I'll skip the knight, archer, and dancer *gasp*) simply because I enjoy having unit diversity for situational control or just cus it feels good. I just dont like the feeling of having an army flooded with a bunch of the same type of class. I know it isnt always optimal but I wanted to give my 2 cents. As for the class descriptions for classes with 1 playable unit I think they were going for a very "general" (hehe) class guide that is applicable even outside this specific game. Also I think it is worth mentioning these types of guides are not meant to be taken literally even by new players, they are just rules of thumb. It feels like you have some high expectations for technical and in depth advice aimed at new players which seems a bit overkill. It's easy to critique this kind of guide as a veteran player but we have also had a long time to learn the ins and outs of the series. That's how it's supposed to be, you learn a lot over time. When you consider the guide as simple guidelines for the bare bones player I think it's pretty serviceable. That's how I see it at least.

    Mekkah says this guide is bad and he doesn't reccomend. But the guide says Paladins are the best class. So, does that mean Paladins aren't the best?

    I really hate how the guide is in alphabetical order. Even the manual for Sacred Stones shows the classes in promotion order
