    Why does the news think we’d rather listen to the reporter blather on and on, rather than listen to the judge hand down the sentence? Wouldn’t it have been a more interesting segment if we actually got to hear the judge speak???

      tampajohn Because TV is up its own asshole. It's been that way for years, but it's only stood out in really sharp contrast since the rise of the internet. They're always banging on about "exclusive" reports, special investigative stories "only on" their channel. Their station ID's are always packed with self-aggrandizement and their news promos, with no irony, pitch the anchors as somehow hard-hitting, despite the fact we all know that they report on nothing and write no copy. TV news is a redundant joke.

    After my daughter was born, the conflicts with bad drivers ended. One day someone swerved in front of me almost hitting my car, I flashed the high beams and he slammed the breaks hard, not a little, but full stop. I reached for the door to unlock it and get out and all of a sudden I was overcome with a fear that was greater than my anger and need to get revenge. What if? What if I die here? Who will take care of my little girl? who will protect her? Up until that point I never cared, I grew up in a violent neighborhood, saw friends shot and stabbed, fought almost every day with kids from rival neighborhoods, violence was a part of my life. But loving someone more than I loved myself changed everything.

      Good move, Gobo. I myself used to get into a lot of road rage confrontations when I was a young driver during the 1980s, but slowly started getting away from that as I got older and matured. Now that I'm retired, I don't even bother getting into any verbal altercations anymore with poor attitude/aggressive drivers. Just last month, a woman in an SUV driving behind me was tailgating my car, and aggressively moving her steering wheel back and forth while doing so. There was constant traffic to the right of me on the two lane road I was on, so I couldn't even get over to get out of her way. Fearing that she was going to rear end me, I kept lightly tapping on my brakes to try and get her to get over to the next lane herself. Finally, she was able to do what I wanted to accomplish, and then proceeded to pull up right alongside me and stuck her head out of the window and started screaming every profanity in the book at me - complete with several middle finger salute gestures. I just simply laughed and waved my hand at her, and she then just drove off while still totally outraged 😁😁😃😃

    • @LauraS1
      @LauraS1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, when it comes to stuff like that, I know emotions can run hot at those times but what could and will happen just isn't worth it. It's not worth getting upset with them. It's not worth wasting your time on them. They are nothing to you.
      This goes for everyone on every side, too. So what if someone cuts you off? So what if you were "right"? Does your reaction de-escalate the situation or are you just adding to it out of fear or anger or the "heat of the moment"? Think safety. You have better things to do with your time and energy than get upset about someone cutting you off or trying to seek some kind of petty revenge for something you feel wronged you. Let it go. It's not worth it. You have better things to do with your time and energy that day. Me? I laugh at people that cut me off, most of the time. I figure they must be in a hurry and let them go, even if they've placed me momentarily in danger. They're the idiot, not me. Let them go.

      That seems to be a terrible way to look at an already broken "justice" system. I am not commenting on his crime or the sentencing as I don't know enough about it (though with the little that i have gather from this video, his crime is horrible and his attitude might be even remorseless -- deserving the punishment awarded to him). However, I feel uncomfortable knowing that so many of us view the abuse of prisoners in this Industrialized Prison Complex as part of the retribution, redemption, rehabilitation, and justice process. His punishment (as decided by the justice system) is the time he'll serve in prison, and not his rape and abuse there. Celebrating the abuse, anticipating it, encouraging it, being unmoved by it, accepting it as part of the justice system -- all these things point to a deeper problem. I hope we all can move past this together.

Well, he was in because he beat up his old lady, and he was shipped off to prison from County but had to come back for a sentence modification. I’ll never forget hearing this giant dude tell me that prison *scared him* because of how built and vicious the inmates were.
