RavenEye, this is DJI’s new wireless image transmission system. In this video I go through the set up process to work with the DJI Ronin RSC 2 and a Sony a6600 camera.
The point of it is to work with their new RS 2 and RSC 2 gimbals to send the picture directly from your cameras sensor to your phone, where you can control the gimbal in a variety of ways as well as set up active tracking, look at the zebras, focus peaking and control a bunch of camera settings. In this video - Im going to go over the setup process of RavenEye to work with or without your gimbal.
The RavenEyeImage Transmission System comes with a lot of cables and while the instruction manual isn’t impossible to understand, its not exactly perfectly clear either.
Here’s how to set it up with a Sony Camera. And this will be mostly the same with most cameras, its just that there are a handful of different ports, hence all the cords you get in the box - Micro-HDMI, Mini HDMI, HDMI, microUSB, miniUSB, USB type C, and the Sony Multi-cable.
First step - slide the RavenEye itself onto your gimbal on the same arm but under where your camera attaches. Theres nothing to tighten, it will just slide and click into place.
next, DJI suggests that you should point the antennas away from the gimbal motors.
For the cables, and this was the part that tripped me up because it is not clearly explained, if you have a Sony a6600 (Ive read that at this time of filming, this is the case for other sony cameras as well but who knows what a firmware update could bring in the future) - there are two camera data cables in the box that will both plug into your cameras USB-Micro port - the USBmicro AND the Sony Multi-cable. In the case of the Sony a6600, youre going to want to use the Sony Multi Cable (when using USB micro, youre allowed to access camera settings, but you cant see a picture or take control of the gimbal. That cable goes from the RSS / little camera icon on the gimbal arm itself over to your cameras data port.
Next, figure out which version of HDMI port your camera has, the a6600 is a micro HDMI port, so that goes from the HDMI on the RavenEye to the Micro HDMI on my camera.
And finally, from the USB type C slot with a roman numeral I and this little icon here, to the opposite side of the RavenEye from the HDMI. You’ll see that has that same icon, plus a thunderbolt 3 icon - this is also the port you charge it from. The RavenEye has its own battery that gets charge from the gimbal, or you can charge it independently if youre using it just with your camera.
Now this thing is mounted, and all the cables are in the right place. You have to go over to the Ronin App to get it set up.
But First, go into the settings of your camera, and again this is in the case of Sony Cameras - in the yellow briefcase menu - USB PC Remote has to be selected - then head on over to the green globe thing and make sure control w/ smartphone is off.
With your gimbal and camera powered on - press and hold the power button on the back of the raveneye until three white lights make their way to the left and a red light comes on. Once that red light turns blue, it means wifi should be on. Open the Ronin App and at the bottom, select ‘connect to raveneye.’ That will take you to the raveneye settings menu in your phone and what it wants you to do, with basically no direction, is to turn off bluetooth while youre using it. Then back out into your settings, go to your wifi, and thats where you’ll see the raveneye network..
The raveneye network name and password is printed really tiny on a sticker right on the back of the thing. So write that password down ahead of time. Enter the password in and connect to raveneye’s wifi..
When you go back to the Ronin App, it might take a second, but BAM - now you see what your camera sees and can take control of the gimbal.
This is super handy just for framing so you dont have to get up and walk over to your camera.. And there are a number of little helpful displays - you’ve got your zebras for exposure, false color for showing highlights and shadows, focus peaking - you can add a LUT in real time, and maybe someone can tell me what this is for, but you can see everything in RG or B or BW..
In addition, with your phone, now you just touch and drag a box around something or someone to start an active track and your camera will follow the thing or person.. Or if you want to use a joystick which can be very helpful for reframing your shot..

Hi Nicholas, nice video. I've been trying to find out if there is a correct power sequence for DJI RS3 Pro + Raveneye + Sony A7RV? I can get my setup working, but sometimes the RavenEye just stays with red light when I power it on, never goes to blue. After some fiddling with power on/off from each and then open the DJI app it eventually all works correctly. I'm sure it must be some type of "sequence" to power on that I might be missing?

Shoot, im really sorry but Ive only ever problem solved this thing with Sony Cameras. If you can control settings thats a really good sign, and I would look in your menus at the HDMI settings and see what you have there for options. On some cameras, by turning off the 'view info' you'll be able to get the feed out of the raven eye.
