I got to 602 subs a while back. I wanted to do the 602 Mario Speedrun to commemorate it! This is the third game in the run: Super Mario Sunshine! We get 120 Shines in this one before moving on to Super Mario Galaxy 2!

I think this sums up why SmallAnt's streams/videos are so nice. Despite being fast, there's definitely a casual feel to them. He doesn't push himself too hard, and plays at a pace he can handle. He also accepts failure when it occurs, and takes it in his stride.

I feel like Sunshine cares the most about continuity and consistency out of all the Mario's. Like outside of the sub worlds, everything make sense in-game. You wouldn't ask questions like "what is this 8-bit Mario reference did Mario used to canonically look like that and it wasn't just a technological limitation of the time?" or "why are Shine Sprites the objective now, didn't they used to be an invincibility power up" or "why does Princess Peach's castle have all these portals to seemingly random places, shouldn't they be nearby to some extent?".
Granted that doesn't mean inconsistency is bad. Some of my favorite things about Galaxy and Odyssey are just absolutely game-breaking/lore-breaking things that only exist because they're fun.

Tbh, Sunshine is still one of my favourite 3d marios.
It had such a great atmosphere, no one can deny that.
And I really liked the hub world. Just so much to find there and explore.
Overall, I find all levels to be really beautiful and well crafted. Its just... fun to be in them.
In terms of controls, its really fluid and just feels nice. While the skill floor is pretty medium/low(especially due to hover nozzle), the skill ceiling is really high.
The game definitely has its downsides. Development was noticeably rushed. Its actually surprising Sunshine came out as good as it is. I'd love to see a direct sequel to it.

the "20 more minutes" bit is my favorite so far

My first time playing sunshine, I did Pachinko on second turn. Got it as part of the All-stars Collection, took me soooo many more trial and errors.

It makes my heart happy that he too dies in many of the areas I died at both as a kid and going to replay it on Switch. "Wonky" is the best description I can make for as to why Sunshine is as difficult as it is. Camera is wonky, controls are wonky, but its a lot of fun if you can get used to the wonkiness

Shadow mario has specific places he can die, its like smb 1 frame rule, you miss the death spot you have to wait for the next.

I grew up with sunshine, such an unforgivable but fun game. Made me rage alot as a kid and could never 100% it xD But i think a good game to learn game mechanics with as this was one of my first games ever that i owned.
