Omg I can’t believe that I’ve “known this” without knowing this. Let me explain.
Since I was a teenager I refused to take ibuprofen or ketorolac when having very bad cramps because I NOTICED that it would “pause” my menstrual bleeding and instead of having a normal lasting menstrual bleed for me (5 days) it would drag it up to 7. So I would prefer (and still do) to suck it up and live through the pain instead of having to deal extra days with my bleeding.
Edit: by “pausing” I meant that it decreased drastically the amount of bleeding (and pain) I was having, but still had it. I don’t know if my perception of it just being like non stop but rather rationalized the big quantity on lighter but longer days.

You don’t have to suffer through unbearable pain. You can have a condition like PCOS or endometriosis (even if you’re twelve years old) and would need scans and possible treatment. 99% of the time, it’s not just bad cramps, it’s an actual condition. And these conditions can affect fertility and even cause hormonal disorders if they’re bad and left untreated.
I learnt that ginger quickens my days a LOT (by one or two days). You can take ginger tea or ginger ale (but if the drink is carbonated, that can be uncomfortable for cramps).
Ginger also increases blood flow and increases pushing toxins out of the body, which is period blood too. The blood flow can also ease cramps because a lot of cramps are caused by dehydration and lack of blood flow. Period cramps are the body’s way of trying to rid itself of toxins (preventing you from going septic and dying) but they still can be helped along the same way you help other cramps, by hydrating and taking proper nutrients.
Drinking lots of water (even eight glasses a day) doesn’t always help if it increases bloat and gets you more uncomfortable. But sometimes taking different drinks like ginger tea would have the body absorb the nutrients from the drink and lessen bloat.
Hope that helps. I grew up in Guyana and many women don’t like taking meds. But I learnt that there’s no shame in using them if you need to while using natural things as well to help your body out.

Magnesium bisglycinate 320 MG, vitamin d, and omega 3s taken daily are AMAZING for preventing cramps and heavy bleeding. I'm so grateful for advil, but that trio is a life saver.

It actually decreases bleeding. It doesn't draw it out so it's the same amount over more days. You also need to take a lot of it starting before your period even begins.
So you clearly noticed something different. Maybe the few times you did take it, you just had a longer period, and so you refused to take it but your period evened out to less days and you attributed it to the ibuprofen.

Be careful ibuprofen will damage your liver, it's not worth it. Take birth control or another treatment for PCOS

Sometimes I go slightly numb with the sheer rage of how much is kept from women with severe periods. I basically figured this (large doses of NSAIDs ) out for myself after getting worn out fighting for my Ponstan X prescription when ALL the doctors wanted to do was give me birth control. No one said the word “prostaglandins” to me ever, I learned about those while lying in a ball on my bed during my honeymoon having just spent hours puking all over the bathroom thanks to my period. That was when I was 29, about 10 years after I first saw a Dr for my period pain

I take ibuprofen to "normalize" my period. My body likes to get my period over with in 2 days. Heavy flow and painful cramps front and back (my uterus is retroverted, it flops to the back). When i take ibuprofen it lessens the strength of the cramps and prolongs the flow. I don't like the longer period but I can function/get out of bed while on my period. I don't have PCOS, vein congestion syndrome or endometriosis. I have 3 kids and 48 years old. It's just how my body is and there's no sign of stopping.

i thought lightening flow is what leads to cramping? i would love to be educated more

Cramping is contractions trying to dialate your cervix to release blood and clots. Whatever helps with labor and relaxing the cervix will help with cramps. Think opening up and relaxing on the toilet, dates, raspberry tea, etc.

BAHAHA!!! I have been taking significant amounts of ibuprofen and then naproxen for migraines and pain since I hit puberty. I am now 40. I had an emergency hysterectomy 3 Christmas's ago. I had a LIFETIME of heat AF periods. I'm also very skinny naturally. Explain that. 🤔😐

True. My period is always lighter with ibuprofen. Oh, Yeah, and the pain gets to almost a negligible point.
Without it, the pain is terrible. (well, not endometriosis kind of terrible, but it gets me rolling on the floor in fetal position feeling like someone wants to severe my lower body)

If it decreases bleeding, what fresh hell would I be drowning it if I didn’t take so much of it? Damn.

Relaxing on the toilet to release the larger clots and heavy bleed days(for 24 hours that's approx 15 toilet visits for a short few minutes) has incredibly changed my life. Being in labor helped me finally realized this with our monthly little mini labors.

Just because it doesn’t work 100% of the time doesn’t mean she’s lying when she says it CAN help. She never said it WILL ALWAYS help in 100% of cases, no exceptions.

it worked for me, I just had to stop taking it bc I didn't consult a doctor and fucked up my stomach
it's not a lie if it doesn't work for some people, and I don't think she's trying to convey that it does
