I was wondering why I had to crank the vacuum up to 11 or 12 when I received my replacement….the old one I could do 6 or 7… 8 max. I’m glad it’s not just me. I was thinking I was crazy and something was wrong with my nips 😂
That's a crazy move on their part. Choosing between motif or spectra was the hardest thing for so many. Now it seems to be a much easier choice. Having to turn up the pump for the same amount a suction of the previous model puts more of a strain on the motor and longentivity is put into question.
It looks like this video was made in 2022. Have there been any updates since this video? I am trying to decide between Spectra S1 Plus Breast Pump: $64.95 or Motif Luna with Battery Breast Pump: $24.95.
I’ve been trying to watch all your videos. I can’t choose the correct one. Can you please suggest the which one is best as a first time mom. My insurance covers Motif Luna Motif Duo Spectra s2 Lansinoh SignaturePro Medela Spectra 9 plus double Zomee Z2 Double Electric
The suction has stopped working on 2 different Motif Luna’s within a 5 week period for me. I can’t seem to find others this is happening to. I had to go out and buy a Spectra as a back up!
Unfortunately I’m hearing this a lot about the newer Lunas. I’m sorry! Keep working with motif to get it sorted, they need to know that users are struggling!
This is happening to me! Two have died on me now. First after 5 weeks as my sole pump (exclusive pumper here) and then again after about 3 months as my secondary pump. Both just stopped suctioning altogether out of nowhere.
This also happened to me! First one just stopped turning one. The second just stopped suctioning today😭 ordered ANOTHER replacement because i really do love the pump, however, i wish i had seen this video before.
which pump would be better the spectra S2 or the motif Luna because I’d be breastfeeding for the first time & those two are the ones my insurance covers. Which would be best? Thank you
I am SO glad I found this video because I can't seem to find anything about these changes anywhere else online. The Motif Luna was my primary pump for my first born in 2020, and was between getting another Luna or the Synergy Gold for #2 due in April. (Also getting a BabyBuddha either way) This kind of sealed the deal for me. This is so upsetting though.
I got the Luna 18 months ago on your recommendation because it was free with my insurance. During my pumping journey, I also got a Spectra as my secondary pump. I think even before the changes, the Spectra was a better pump. Even though my output was basically the same with both, the Spectra just seemed nicer. Like the whole unit was just higher quality and felt "tighter."
It's funny you say this because I also received a motif and spectra s2. The Luna was definitely more powerful and had better output and I preferred it 100%. I also hate how big and bulky the spectra is. This baby around I will not be getting a new motif because I have heard so many bad things.
I'm a FTM due in June and have been researching breast pumps for months now. Just when I think I decide on one, I get recommended another great option and get thrown back into indecisiveness! Considering I have no previous breastfeeding or pumping experience, I think I may still go with the new Motif Luna because of the lower cost (for battery powered with insurance) and size/portability, and I doubt I know enough to be super disappointed. The only remaining concern is longevity... have there been lots of reports of the pump dying/giving up due to the lower suction when double pumping? And at that point, would something like the Medela Pump-in-style be a better choice (for me the same upgrade cost as Motif Luna)? I'd really love not to have to buy another pump if I use insurance for the Motif Luna then it fails...
That’s a hard one. We have had lots of reports of the pumping dying, if it’s within the warranty the company should replace it for you. I still like this pump better than the Medela pump in style, but the nee update it hit or miss!
These changes are disappointing. I am using both my old pump (2021) and new pump (Nov 2022) for this baby. The increased massage mode is pointless. The vibrations with the old model is amazing, makes pumping more comfortable and way more efficient at expressing milk.
So, I’ve watched this video and the upgrade fee on motif is 24 bucks and on S1 it’s 64. I work from home and plan to BF mainly along with pumping so we can introduce bottle as well. Im still thinking of getting Luna.
When purchasing online or anywhere from another mom or whatever ask for the weight on the box, the new ones are 1.6 pounds the old ones are 2 and 2.3 with battery. I just scored a new in box old style motif for $25 on Mercari. I went on there to get new attachments for my spectra and it was actually cheaper to get this whole other pump and it would’ve been to get the whole kit for my spectra.
I thought the old model was the one without the battery option? But reading the comments I guess not. I am on the fence because I wanted to get the motif and not the spectra. There is no way I could know if I got the old version?
It is VERY noticeable the changes from the original Luna to the new Luna. I was very disappointed in the changes in the pump because I had been using the Luna since they released the battery powered version originally. The new Luna though is now comparable to the Cimilre 6s & 6s+, but I haven’t seen why they made the changes.
@@NewLittleLife I agree the faster speed is nice, but taking out the vibration makes a big difference for some moms and is a big factor in what pumps they consider. It was shocking for moms who had the original and then got the new one to suddenly discover the pump isn’t the same. I have 1 wall plug & 2 battery powered that are original (got the battery ones when they first released) so it is definitely a big change for someone like me to experience the new pump. My originals are finally at the end of their life especially when the battery ones saved my journey during our 5 day power outage Feb 2021 when I was EP for baby 5 and it was the frozen world that caused the outage.
Ohh no Why would they change it!? I thought for sure I would get this one thru insurance since they don’t offer the spectra but now I’m not so sure. I have very few options thru insurance: Ameda Mya Joy, motif Luna (without battery), and lansinoh smart pump 2.0. Would you still get the motif Luna vs the lansinoh smart pump 2.0?
What a bummer!!!! I LOVE my Luna and now I'll have to hunt down an older version if mine goes out on me. Is there a barcode or anything I can check when buying a sealed one from eBay or something to make sure it's the one with vibration?
I was just comparing my models to a friends to see it I could find an identifier but I can’t!! There does seem to be a date on the back, so far the earliest I’ve seen with the newer model changes is July 2022 (220714) (year/month/day) but otherwise you’ll have to turn it on to see if it has an 80 cycle speed option 😬 the company really didn’t want this change to be noticed I think!
Thank you for this review, I’m onto baby #4 and I need to pump a lot have for all my babies, and sadly it his isn’t working now. Nope sorry I must say I no longer recommend this pump now I am back to my medela symphony, the new versions are terrible, they do not work the same the suction is very different, no doubt in my mind. I knew something happened I called them and finally got an answer, it’s wrong not to inform consumers on these changes. Many of us go based off reviews and that’s not fair when they are a different product. To me it’s kinda fraudish I mean it’s not the same pump ..
I know, I’m sorry! They really didn’t advertise this change at all which is disappointing. It’s not a bad pump though! Just different than what you might be expecting. Assume it will work well for you until proven otherwise 👍🏼
Hi I'm a exclusive pumper and have several pumps purchased the aura and worst 400$ spent suction was horrible it comes apart easily as your wearing it and the bottles suck for poring out the milk , so much spill out trying to get it out of the sides !
Mine just got here like last week. I tested it and it's the new model. I've never pumped before so I will keep an open mind. I am a little bummed, but the increased cycle speed for massage mode sounds good so I'm still happy with it for now. I'm currently 36weeks so I can't wait to try this pump out 😁
Yay!! Way to keep an open mind :) it’s still a good pump! I hope you like it. If you find you need more help after your little one arrives, let me know!
Hi! Mommy from latinamerica here. I plan on buying my pump through ebay as is my best option. Is there a way to tell the old version from the new one? Like in the tag or something.
Yes the only way to tell is if it had a setting option for 80 cycles per minute. Otherwise they look identical! There might be a date on the back of the pump,
@@maritzasylvia I don’t think you are able to know the cycle speed though until you actually plug the pump in because I don’t remember seeing those details on the box
Hi! I used (and liked) a Medela with 2017 baby and used and did not like a Spectra with 2020 baby. I didn’t feel the suction was right for me and it didn’t seem to pull milk like the Medela. I was so excited to try the Motif Luna this time but now reading this do you think that’s maybe not the best fit? Has so much changed now that the suction won’t be stronger and different enough? Thank you!
Hmm.. this change might be better for Medela users of you didn’t like the spectra, I’m hesitant to say though because many moms have been struggling with this pump and the recent change in quality 😬
So does the old one weigh 2lbs and new one 1.6 ??? Bc I just ordered a 2lb one and the one with battery is 2.3 and the 1.6 lbs one should be the new one since it’s lighter right ?! Ugh I really hope so 😫😫😫😫
