I'm definitely struggling. I'm pumping and breastfeeding and supplementing with formula. I had to because my son lost too much weight and that was really scary. With the price of formula and the shortage/recalls. I wish I could just make more milk. But they say some breast milk is better than none. It's been 2 months and I don't want to give up. I wish I could just stay home and breastfeed all day! I do on my days off. It's my favorite thing to do
My daughter didn't start feeding well until she was around 3 months. Before that she'd sleep too much and not want to eat from the breast, only bottle. Every kid is a whole new puzzle to figure out but you'll get there!
NICU lactation consultant explicitly told me my daughter being 10 weeks premature and IUGR had nothing to do with my low supply when I asked. She didn’t know about flange sizes either, said low supply wasn’t really a thing, and flip flopped on a lot of other things she’d told me. I resent all that misinformation she dealt out for how much we struggled both with supply and my daughter not eating (ending up with a g tube to go home).
I’m so sorry to hear about your experience! Having a baby in the nicu is such a challenging thing to navigate, you deserve to have good help you can trust 💕
I think I had low output and letdown with my first 2 children. My breast did get really large and heavy, but my baby would still drink a full bottle after breastfeeding. So my lactation consultant wanted to check how much I could pump. With the pump I only got really small amounts of milk, maximum of 5ml. So it looked like my children just weren't getting enough milk. Meanwhile my breast kept getting larger. It was very confusing. My lactation consultant didn't know what to do when my breasts started to get really engorged and hot. I decided to quit at that point, and luckily my breast went back to normal. Breastfeeding was never painful and I actually enjoyed it. Pumping on the other hand was very painful and destroyed my nipples. She gave me different sizes to try, but it was always agony. I wonder if my body is just not able to breastfeed efficiently. Or if maybe it will be more comfortable for me to try hand expressing next time, to hopefully get things going. I'm pregnant with my third, and would love to finally be able to breastfeed 😢
This was helpful… as a hairstylist.. it is so hard to get back into the swing of things and to get a consistent pumping schedule going… I have noticed a significant decrease in supply… I feel might have come back too soon
It is so hard! Finding a good schedule and sticking to it as well as making sure you get all the milk out that’s available can be a lot to manage on your own 💕
I get that! I’m a hairstylist too. I’m still on leave but I knew a friend who came back from maternity leave and her schedule was getting messed up just because she was so busy and getting behind schedule with clients. 😣
I don't like breastfeeding at all and decided to try pumping, but I got an once on both for weeks and now with PPD I'm just getting a few drops. With PPD it's causing me not to feel hungry at all.
I’m struggling also. I’m trying so hard to keep pumping but I only get drops. I think after listening to your video I have poor pumping output. But I would love to talk to you about everything to see if there’s anything else I can do to help my supply
Great video as always. Have you considered doing a video on breastmilk donating? I've always wanted to donate breastmilk, and now that my first baby is almost here, I finally get to see if it's something I can do.
That would be so generous of you. My baby was in the NICU living off of donor breast milk until I was well enough to start pumping. I always wonder about that lady out there that made my baby's first meal 😊
Oh my goodness. I knew there were different flange sizes, but I didn’t know it really mattered. I have been using the wrong size and thought I had to buy a better pump. I haven’t confirmed that that’s exactly my problem, but I’d rather spend $20 rather than a couple hundred.
A thousand thumbs up for this comment “just stay home and breastfeed a year, 2 years and keep your job keep getting paid…” like WTF man, I just popped out a little human that needs to be fed to survive go figure- AND I have to do that round the clock while also going back to work? Come on…

Hey! I’m a new mom. Baby will be 1 month tomorrow. I am breastfeeding, pumping (trying) , and doing formula. My problem is that when I pump I only get 1-2 ounces out and to me that’s discouraging. When my baby was 2 weeks I was increasing ounces when pumping (up to 5.5 ounces) but that dropped 3rd week. Idk why. Just learned about the flanges so maybe that’ll be a difference because I was using size 27mm and when I measure my nipple it measures at 18mm. But anywho when I breastfeed I can see all the signs that my baby is getting milk (long sucks, hear him taking deep swallows, milk around the lips) and he even gets the “drunk “ look after feeding lol but it’s discouraging when I only pump 1 ounce now. I pump because I just would like to have some milk stored for the days I choose to sleep in bc this is tiresome.
Hey girly! I’m a similar boat. I noticed it helped to massage my breast before pumping and during pumping then to hand express after as well as manual express. I’ve tried 3 different pumps in the last 2 months and that seems to be universal for all of them. Good luck!
Hi. Thank you for your videos. They've been super helpful! I am a little surprised, though, that I am not seeing other conditions mentioned. Our baby had a frenulum back tie that made latching and pulling out milk difficult, thereby causing low supply. In my search for answers, this seems to be missed as a potential milk supply issue. If the supply diminished early on because it took time to fix the tie and latch, how would one increase supply again? I've been struggling with this and never saw an increase in supply after our baby's tie was fixed.
There are SO many conditions and variables in both mother and baby, it’s impossible to mention them all! Milk supply is definitely the biggest concern for most mothers, if you want some working through it, let us know! calendly.com/d/d3c-8c2-jvj
I’m so glad you made this video! Two years ago I was super struggling with breastfeeding and pumping at work. With baby number 2 we are having such a successful journey. Thank you for making this video I will be sharing it with my mom friends!
I got a baby Buddha through Insurance and my issue is I can’t get a small enough flange size and I also have not ever been able to get a let down. The first few weeks I could pump 2 oz a breast and now I’m lucky if I can get half on oz combined. But my baby can nurse and be fine. I’m so so frustrated and I can’t really afford another pump to see if that’s it.
Ok maybe i need to move on from my zumme bc I had notice that it is not the same as my lancinoh 2.0, i was looking for a hand free pump but now i end up with low milk supply and think its that. I came from the video were you said tha if we have low milk supply we can use hand free wareble pump. Thanks, i'll try to chance to my lancinoh and see how it's goes. ❤❤

Thanks for making this helpful content! Question about increasing milk supply: I’m a stay at home mom…. I started pumping because my baby was consistently falling asleep at my breast every time I tried feeding him. I didn’t want my supply to dry up so I started pumping. Now I pump about 8 times in a 24 hour day. My supply is not enough for my 2 month old so we are supplementing formula (75% breast milk 25% formula). Should I continue with the pumping, or do you think it’s possible to switch back to exclusively breast feeding?
I would work with an IBCLC to help get baby back to breast if that’s a goal for you. It’s not too late, but it can be tricky, so I’d recommend getting some help :) good luck!
The question I have is, my son is 2months old. I am nursing, pumping, and storing milk for when I return to work. I will nurse him, and than pump afterwards to get any milk left out. Is it normal to pump from both breast and get nothing from one. Then one breast maybe à ounce. My breast are soft so I figured he drained it while nursing. I looked it up and found little information. I don't believe I have a low supply. If I pump before nursing him I get 2-4oz. I have quite à stash on the freezer.

However, it takes 30 minutes on 54 cycle speed at 12 suction with the S1 spectra pump with full breast massaging to get this output (I used to only get .5-1.5 ounces the first 4 weeks). Just seemed like the pump wore out after a a week or so. I changed out all of my parts to make sure that wasn’t an issue either. I feel like I’m just wearing out the pump.
I feel like my supply is low from how much my baby stays at the breast or I have to switch sides so baby gets enough. When I was pumping I would pump for 30 mins to get the amount baby would drink. I do have added stress going on right now so it could be contributing to my low supply.

My milk supply is low, pumping more frequently isn't helping. I have had to add formula to supplement so my baby is fine but I would like to increase my supply until she is at least 4 months. Any actual tips for that? There are so many pills/ supplements out there, latch tips, etc, but those and keeping a schedule are not heiping me at all.
I have low pump output BAD I’ve been able to sustain three babies with breastfeeding them talk to me about pumping? I get drops. I’m currently relactating and taking domperidone and I can tell it’s helping but I’m still only getting 2mL and breastfeeding isn’t really an option 😫
I have a lactation consultant here and she just said what size feels right which helps me none 😫 my nipple is around 17mm pre pumping/feeding (I think there’s not a clear end to the nipple and beginning to the areola if that make sense). What should I try?
Did you stimulate yourself before measuring? If your lactation consultant can't measure for you and suggest where to start I'd get another opinion. Assuming you are 17mm I'd suggest you try 19 or 21 mm. Google "symptoms of too big flange vs too small" there's lots of good charts to help you find the right one!

Can you give me some pointers? Im exclusively pumping every 2.5 hours. I do supplement with formula and im a c section mama. Thank you :)
We’re you able to boost your supply? I’m in the same boat. 10 weeks pp and get an oz combined each pumping session. I pump every 3 hours but don’t nurse due to a tongue tie reattachment.
What about if they only eat for 5 mins between both breast & still crying after? Would that indicate low supply, or meaning that hes a hungry baby lol. Hes also bigger for 6 months, hes been in 6-12 months for 2 months now was in 0-3 at newborn lol, then 3-6 at 2 months. I had an oversupply then it stopped by 4 months once he was on solids. Hes 6 months now and its dropped alot. I can only pump maybe 1oz or a half a oz between the two breast, but before i could pump 6 oz on each breast.
Have you got about Can you express milk from only one breast? What will be the consequences of this I ask because I take a maximum of 10 ml from one breast. Another is 20-50. And i pump for 15min for each one. I think maybe i will pump much more the breast where i got more milk.

It’s alot do juggle I know. It’s always hard to know what’s a normal output when you’re both pumping and feeding at the breast. If you want some help figuring it all out, you can chat with us! We help moms exactly like you pump fast and efficiently to protect your milk supply 💙

I have nipple thrush and my son has it in the mouth as well and that is affecting our feeding and my milk supply. 😩
My baby cries after brest feeding for an hour.. so I have to give her 2 ounces every feeding
I was told I have insufficient glandular tissue I’m using goats rue to help my supply
My milk supply is low, pumping more frequently isn't helping. I have had to add formula to supplement so my baby is fine but I would like to increase my supply until she is at least 4 months. Any actual tips for that? There are so many pills/
supplements out there, latch tips, etc, but those and keeping a schedule are not heiping me at all.
I have twins and it’s so hard to breast feed and care for the other baby.
Yes!! A whole new level of coordination and logistics to consider.
Is it possible to increase milk supply after 4 months of baby birth?
Yes! It will be easier/harder depending on what has happened so far in your journey and where you’re at, but should be possible in theory!
I have low pump output BAD I’ve been able to sustain three babies with breastfeeding them talk to me about pumping? I get drops. I’m currently relactating and taking domperidone and I can tell it’s helping but I’m still only getting 2mL and breastfeeding isn’t really an option 😫
Hi. Can I ask how many times did you take domperidone per day?
One side seems to feed her fine but I don’t get any milk out
I had a horrible time using a breast pump! When I expressed it by hand I would get plenty of milk.
Pumping is hard! You’re not alone there..
@@NewLittleLife it was much easier to not leave my baby and forget dates with my husband. I nursed all my children for 2 years and the youngest for 3.
It can definitely be easier to feed long term if you don’t have to be separated from your baby. Well done on meeting your feeding goals!
Thanks for the video
whats your opion on reglen
That would be a conversation for your primary health provider. It has a place but not in most circumstances.
I cant sleep I'm beyond exhausted trying to exclusively pump im depressed and losing faith
I am so sorry you’re struggling so much. Motherhood is NOT easy, pumping is not easy, it’s all a lot 💙 who do you have available to help you? It’s probably time to reach out.
@@NewLittleLife thank you and for your advice let's keep going mamas!!
I am pumping enough milk now for my baby but how do I know when to pump longer or more based on babies feedings as they get older? I am exclusively pumping so I need to make sure that I have enough milk put back for when I go back to work. How do I pump more at a time to make sure I have enough for when she is demanding more milk at a time?
I would love to chat with you about this! Sounds like you’re at the perfect time to make sure everything is going right before heading back to work when it gets much tricker. Here’s a link if you want to chat with us about getting your questions answered calendly.com/d/d3c-8c2-jvj
Nobody explain why im still able to pump 5-6oz after a breastfeeding session. Did my baby feed enough? Its almost impossible to keep a dbf baby keep sucking.
I have 4 different pumps.
Philips Avent simple electric pump, Philips Avent manual pump, haaka recolector and nuliie s32 portable pumps... Maximum 20ml a day... Kill me. My baby is 26 days old and I'm stressed.
Something isn’t quite right! Are you working with a professional?
Hi quick question if I have not been consistently pumping and I do not breastfeeding I had noticed a huge decrease. My daughter is 2 months now. Can milk increase anymore or is it done? Thank you!!
It is possible, I would do some research on relactation as that’s probably where you’re at now!
@@NewLittleLife thank you so much for your time in responding and your videos!!
This was right on time for me.
So what do you think? Are you struggling with one of these?
@@NewLittleLife I am struggling with low pumping output. I know I make enough for my baby. He is growing well- but it doesn't make sense to me that my breast will only make 2 oz every two hours and he eats 3 oz every two hours

Should I give up on pumping? I want to continue until my baby is 2 but my older 2 kids keep me so busy it’s hard to have time to pump plus my baby is a bitter so I can’t put her on my breast
Only you can answer this… it’s so hard, I know! Take some time to consider your motivation for pumping, your lifestyle and baby needs, and your mental health 💙 I hope you find your answer!
Can you give me some pointers? Im exclusively pumping every 2.5 hours. Im using what i believe is the correct flange size, drinking a ton of water, eating well and also taking the liquid gold supplement. Im only pumping at most 1.5oz from each breast. I do supplement with formula and im a c section mama. Thank you :)
Im 9 weeks PP
We’re you able to boost your supply? I’m in the same boat. 10 weeks pp and get an oz combined each pumping session. I pump every 3 hours but don’t nurse due to a tongue tie reattachment.
I did have some success with switching pumps. I was using the pink spectra and switched to Medela.

I'm definitely struggling with low pumping output. I really need help figuring this out.

This is definitely something that needs a full evaluation from a lactation consultant and/or peditrician. I would schedule an appointment.
Have you got about Can you express milk from only one breast? What will be the consequences of this I ask because I take a maximum of 10 ml from one breast. Another is 20-50. And i pump for 15min for each one. I think maybe i will pump much more the breast where i got more milk.
Why don’t you give examples of pumps
I feel sad that women in west have to go to work after giving birth 😢😢😢
They don’t have luxury to stay at home and take care of baby
Why they have to have two income to run the house
That’s actually sad
It’s definitely too short of a maternity leave. The US system has some flaws, like all governments, but this is a big one.
Do you accept BlueCross Blue Sheild? I had a lovely IBCLC and I'm thinking she is not covered now that insurance changed April 1. Adoptive Exclusively pumping. Drops each time 1mth in and no meds. But no increase. Help!
I was extremely anemic, a little bit of a traumatic delivery, after giving birth. It took about 14 days for my milk to come in and I am now almost 6 weeks pp and, now thankfully, getting about 1.5-3.5 ounces every 2-3 hours when I pump. However, it takes 30 minutes on 54 cycle speed at 12 suction with the S1 spectra pump with full breast massaging to get this output (I used to only get .5-1.5 ounces the first 4 weeks). I’ve been to an IBCLC and made sure my flange sizes are correct, and am waiting for pumpin pals to come in the mail to see if it’s an elastic issue. Is this normal? I feel like I didn’t have to massage as much when I first started pumping and now it’s every pump. The same thing happened when I rented the Medela symphony. Just seemed like the pump wore out after a a week or so. I changed out all of my parts to make sure that wasn’t an issue either. I feel like I’m just wearing out the pump.
