I was hoping they'd tell him he'll get a big salary increase so he doesn't need to work 2 jobs, and that's 100% of his son's tuition will be covered.

Scholarship without a definition is lame. Saw plenty of $50 "scholarships" where you had to show up across town to take a photo with the owner (time and gas costs could easily exceed the scholarship amount) which was nothing more than a joke.

This Boss was driving & see an employee & family eating grass on the road side, seeing how hungry they all was he stopped his car, picked them up and drove them to his massive mansion. He took them through his banquet hall and out into his huge 2 acre garden.. “here you go guys… eat as much grass as you want”

Seems to me like the CEO was TRYING to help. The golf cart was to help him work, the Scholarship should help relieve some of the financial burden. Also bringing the property up to code should make the work easier.

Ok this ceo is cheap. Give Ricardo's son a full scholarship. Give this employee a substantial raise so he could quit his 2nd job. Why didn't he ask the General Manager why, even though the property has just been taken over, he hasn't contacted the new owners which the guy in the suit represents for help in getting the property up to standards but instead of obviously ignoring it? The less money he spends on upkeep (the General Manager) the bigger bonuses he gets?
That's exactly why, he keeps them fat bonuses himself and does absolutely nothing. Most upper management are just people who play kiss ass

Ive had various two jobs in the last 5 years. Guess what happens when they find out. Oh you're overworking yourself, or you're exhausted. Next thing you know Im down to one job. I learned real quick to not mention a second job to coworkers.

A scholarship for his son to enable him to become a Doctor. Such an excellent investment in the lives of this man's family, and into the community where his son makes his Practice. In Australia, GPs don't make anywhere near the amount of money Doctors in America can. His son will be able to support his family well, because his dad works so hard to put him through University. A great investment.

So everybody has second jobs. I've been working two jobs for 22 years now. That's nothing new.
Med school is hundred of thousands, and people are thinking that’s not enough of a gift
That's just the thing a scholarship is not always a full ride. It can be for elite athletes, but if a company is awarding a scholarship that is available for all employees nationwide it can be as little as $2,000. Most people I know that have an advanced degree have been awarded multiple scholarships and grants...and still have a ton of student debt.
The CEO deliberately picked that phrasing. He didn't say, 'we are going to pay for your son's med school.' He said we are going to open up a scholarship that is available for all employees and I want your son to be the first recipient.
All scholarships have requirements, maintaining a certain G.P.A, how the money is going to be issued and on what time schedule, etc. By the time they setup this nationwide scholarship open for all employees and their children, the kid is going to be done with med school.
I thought the CEO was going to offer him a job where he would be doing the exact same thing, but be working for parent corporation so they could give him a raise.
On the brighter side, I think it will be easier to get the golf cart for the hotel. Maybe next fiscal quarter.

Weakest effort to improve an employees life I have seen. It doesnt really help the guys situation. Replace his boss and give Ricardo that job and make sure he never has to work 2 jobs again and that his son goes to school without cutting into his own pay. The golf cart makes his job a bit easier but also allows him to do more without getting paid. Pathetic imo.

Saying scholarship without defining that further is a joke. Seen plenty of $50 "scholarships" in my time. If he wanted to make an impact he could've said full tuition scholarship for his son. But he didn't specifically to reduce any real cash outflow. Golf cart is stupid - that's a company asset, it's like saying he's buying new toilets for the workplace. Who cares? It's his basic responsibility to provide that infrastructure.
