Okay, I just have to take a moment and say, your videos are excellent! Not because they are perfect, or 100% factually correct, but because we can feel your passion for analyzing video games and what makes them great, or terrible, or anything in between with every line you speak. Even though I don’t agree with all of your opinions, I can’t help but respect them because of this. Your effort and honesty do not go unnoticed, and I thank you for such a breath of fresh air in this at-times suffocating community.
I feel like the theory of looking back and rating a game based on its ratio of $1/1h isn't the best, just look back and enjoy the time you did spend on the game and think positively However, I do completely agree with the topic, its just that us normal people shouldn't rate it and leave it to the experts. Like Meraki for example. I'm not saying anyone is wrong or anything, that is just how I feel- It has been wayyyyy too long since the last video >:O
was just reading through other comments and someone said basically "its not about the money, its the experience". I totally agree with this, while still being one of those people who refuse to buy games in order to save my limited money from summer jobs :_)
I usually use the 1 euro rule as well, but the thing is, one of my absolute favourites Gris, took way shorter than 1 dollar, or even 2 dollar for me to complete. But I would still say it was worth it wayy more than most titles I put 10+hours into. Simply bc those few hours were so much more engaging, better and more emotional than what I get for less money. I like the 1 euro rule for generel orientation, but it completly misses how that time was spend. And since I got a job and money is still an issue, but not one as big, I am starting to value my time way more. So I want quality games, maybe even with less time. I want them to be a good time, engagement, money deal.
Never really thought about it like that. Some games really are there for the looong experience, but most are just "do whatever, saving the world can wait" nowadays. And there's nothing wrong with that.
@@danuvip oh. I make a new account everytime I get a new appliance cuz I forget my log in data every time. But let's roll with the "new around here" story. Less enbarrassing that way🙃
I honestly feel like it's better for a game to be slightly too short than slightly too long, a long game can leave an impression of tediousness, while a short game just leaves you yearning for more; or at least it's short enough to not annoy you too much if it's not that good. Though I'm biased, my favourite singleplayer games are probably the Portals and Return of the Obra Dinn, all three are 10h experiences and one has zero replay value to that
As for me it is not accurate to align a game price to its length, for me it’s more about entertainment, it should be like x2 time to an average movie length (considering the time u master a gameplay), I would prefer a 4-hours game length of something I really enjoy to a 24-hours game length of something what I don’t find entertaining
Never thought I'd not be the only one using the 1 euro/dollar rule, even if I see it more as a quota : I made a good deal if I have more hours of games than euros spent. Following this rule, I made a good investment for most of my games, and so did I (most of the time). But I must say that, in the end, I don't really care ; there are games that I loved but I didn't spend many hours on them. So yes, you don't want to pay the full price for some games, but there are other games that are, by far sometimes, worth the full price.
Yeah I think a game like journey or stray, while short, are phenomenal and I think absolutely worth it. On the opposite end of the spectrum a game like assassin’s creed or watch dogs are absolutely not worth it despite the length. Take a game like hollow knight, $15 and could be beaten in 30 ish hours is a great deal, but the quality of the game and the polish it has is more important than the price to time ratio
I have something like 3000h on Minecraft for 15€ back in the day. (Must have been a good deal) So paying annualy 20€ for TrackMania 2020, seem way to much. In addition, now that i am an engineering student i don't have that much time to play too.
I liked this video and you put a lot of work into the research but I couldn't stop thinking in the back of my head how similar the humor was to NakeyJakey's
the game that got me really thinking about this again recently was bonelab. great game but the campaign took me maybe 5 hours? and one of the primary mechanics that separates it from boneworks is introduced so late in the campaign that i feel like it didnt provide a sufficient amount of opportunities to make use of that mechanic. and while theyres a lot more modes than just the story and theres already plenty of community content, as a lover of long winded story games that are open-world and usually take me way longer than most people, this was really disappointing for me
I strongly disagree with all this price/hour theory. I can make a game with no graphics where you just have to move a square from A to B... for 1000+ hours. Should it cost 1000$? You can't measure emotions with money. For me Stray was totally worth the price because I enjoyed a lot! Then something like COD... I won't waste my time on it even for free.
Missed this guy. This was a topic I really enjoyed because I find myself contemplating this a lot. Thanks for another great video Meraki!
thanks digi
HE'S BACK Y'ALL!!!
I have been watching the genius and return on the regular. 2 of my most favourite videos on the platform. Suprised and pleased to see this come up.

thank you snake :) i really appreciate the kind words
For me the quality is what makes the price worth it. Not the play time.

I THINK IT'S NOT ABOUT THE DURATION, BUT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE!
This! One minute of your favourite game will worth more then 30+ hours of something you hate.

Omg cant believe I missed this upload xD I must say the editing and the humor has skyrocketed . Amen .
hahaha thanks catherine :)

I can't believe you got me with the fake ending. What am I, new on TH-cam?
Great video, as always
youre account has been created at the end of 2021 so.. you are still kinda new to TH-cam lol

thanks asti :)
Do you have any plans for more videos about music from iconic games like minecraft? That videos were awesome!!!!
about botw music would be fantastic.
The only thing I ever say about paying for games is to never preorder. Just wait a day or two to see if the game is good then buy it

I think some people forget that most older games took maybe 20-25 hours long and cost around $90 *cough* Chrono Trigger *cough*
HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT
Nice video man!
Another great video. Love to see it
I liked this video and you put a lot of work into the research but I couldn't stop thinking in the back of my head how similar the humor was to NakeyJakey's
i take that as a compliment!
Minecraft be like:
20$ = Infinity Play Time
Based on the theory, a brand new game on the switch will get you 2 and a half days of gameplay
the game that got me really thinking about this again recently was bonelab. great game but the campaign took me maybe 5 hours? and one of the primary mechanics that separates it from boneworks is introduced so late in the campaign that i feel like it didnt provide a sufficient amount of opportunities to make use of that mechanic. and while theyres a lot more modes than just the story and theres already plenty of community content, as a lover of long winded story games that are open-world and usually take me way longer than most people, this was really disappointing for me
Holy shit hes alive
It’s a Mario!
idk guys but i think 5min is REALLY long like everybody should be happy with this mhm yeah
By the €/h theory, a game that's just a 60 hour timer is worth 60€
Meraki dropped oh shit

I strongly disagree with all this price/hour theory.
