Yeah this was a tough one to watch. I'm just glad he didn't resist and risk serious injury to himself. I had a cop roll up on my buddy and I (I was 60 and he was 45 at the time). The lying cop said that he got a call that said I was doing donuts in the pickup truck parked nearby. Any problems with that? Of course. 1. The truck belonged to neither of us. 2. The hood was cold and the truck had not been moved. 3. The back of the truck had work equipment that would have been thrown around. 4. There were no tire marks or smell of rubber in the air. When I wouldn't give him identification he said "Do you want to go to jail?". I said, "Yeah, I want to go to jail" and walked off on him. Guess what happened? Nothing, that's what. I went inside. The clown was just looking for something to do and didn't count on this old man telling him that he was a g d liar. That got me started filming everything. Now, I never leave the house without the phone being fully charged. Plus, I will film everything, get their name and badge number, ask for a supervisor, and then go file a complaint afterwards. If his father-in-law's medication had been Oxy or Vicodin, enough of it could still be fatal, but it could have been that he just wanted to get high. The fact that it was medication to lower the blood pressure, however, ruled out wanting to get high. A person with normal blood pressure would only take such a medication for one reason, to restrict the flow of oxygen to the brain resulting in fatal hypoxia. And Constitution or not, he was rude to walk away from ANYBODY who was obviously still speaking with him. No Constitutional Right trumps courtesy.
The officer stated he was arrested for not giving his id, but says in the same breath that they knew who he was. That's pure abuse of power. The goal wasn't to get his name, it was to make him submit to their authority.

Scotus ruled that a 911 call alone does not give an officer probable cause it only gives them reasonable suspicion and it is the duty of the officer to develop their own independent probable cause for a stop

So, let me get this right. They have a man with potential mental health issues and could be suicidal. The police then escalate the situation, cause additional stress and tell his employer who then terminates his employment. That's not a lack of training. That's an utter lack of common sense when dealing with someone believed to be self-harmful. How helpful would it be to someone like that to be arrested? There are lots of places someone can believe is rock bottom, but adding an arrest to any of them would make things substantially worse. That's a lacking in the human decency department.

I had something similar. 2 police came sneaking up my driveway. I was told my half sister in Alaska had called saying I was suicidal. I had not seen or spoken to her in over 6 years and I lived in Oregon. I was detained and handcuffed, then the one cop called the VA hospital and said they reported I was in the hospital the day before and left against consent. Not sure what patient they spoke to but the VA does not give any information over the phone. I informed the cop that was false as I had the plane ticket in my shirt pocket that I had just returned from Orlando Florida 7 hours prior. No good. They took me to a hospital some 140 miles away, where I spent the weekend. In less than 2 minutes of a doctor entering the room he was signing my release. Same cops had to return and take me home. The one in the copilot seat was writing a novel about me wanting death by cop. I told him to remove that nonsense and he refused. Before taking me to the hospital I asked him to turn off the water to my travel trailer. Instead he disconnected the power. So everything in my refrigerator went bad while the frozen plumbing exploded. He had failed to lock the door as well. That was 2007. My mother died in 2009 and all that nonsense by the half sister was to cut me out of her will. Well done. I didn't get a cent, not even things of my own left with my mother due my traveling. In 2013 I permanently left the US and police and relatives have been of no further problem. That half sister, another half sister as well as a half brother are now all dead. The half brother the first to go ibn 2014 while I was mountain biking in the Andes of Ecuador. Both half sisters died in 2015 while I was living in Nicaragua. So all turned out very well. Greedy bastards. I have a completely tax free income exceeding $2.6 million a year along with my wife who has no desire at all to even visit the US, nor do I. I had lived alone and had no friends as 3 friends had died so no one to come to my assistance. Sure glad I will never have to deal with Nazi US cops again.

@gavinwigg8057 HIPPA applies to any PHI (protected health information). When I was a volunteer firefighter, we were warned against the information shared when telling stories. Telling a family member about a call you went to and being vague is ok. Saying it was John Doe who lives on Main street was having a schizophrenic break is against HIPPA. This applies to firefighters and EMS, I'm not sure if it applies to police, but it should.

That’s not true. My mom called one of these on me when I was in college and not answering my phone. The encounter took two minutes, was totally safe, and the police were cordial. That’s what happens in 90% of cases. What you watch is the minority of interactions. This is the reason it’s recorded and we watched it.

This misconduct went beyond getting an arrest. They wanted some sort of additional revenge on him for “inconveniencing” them and revealed case details to random people. Almost felt like they were looking for approval by making him look bad in the conversation.

it goes even deeper, many feel that just because they say so, you are required to do so. and will enforce that misguided feeling with force.
I had a cop roll up on my buddy and I (I was 60 and he was 45 at the time). The lying cop said that he got a call that said I was doing donuts in the pickup truck parked nearby. Any problems with that? Of course. 1. The truck belonged to neither of us. 2. The hood was cold and the truck had not been moved. 3. The back of the truck had work equipment that would have been thrown around. 4. There were no tire marks or smell of rubber in the air. When I wouldn't give him identification he said "Do you want to go to jail?". I said, "Yeah, I want to go to jail" and walked off on him. Guess what happened? Nothing, that's what. I went inside. The clown was just looking for something to do and didn't count on this old man telling him that he was a g d liar. That got me started filming everything. Now, I never leave the house without the phone being fully charged. Plus, I will film everything, get their name and badge number, ask for a supervisor, and then go file a complaint afterwards. From here on out I say FTP.

He was found in possession of a medication prescribed to his father-in-law for high blood pressure.
If his father-in-law's medication had been Oxy or Vicodin, enough of it could still be fatal, but it could have been that he just wanted to get high.
The fact that it was medication to lower the blood pressure, however, ruled out wanting to get high. A person with normal blood pressure would only take such a medication for one reason, to restrict the flow of oxygen to the brain resulting in fatal hypoxia.
And Constitution or not, he was rude to walk away from ANYBODY who was obviously still speaking with him. No Constitutional Right trumps courtesy.
The officer stated he was arrested for not giving his id, but says in the same breath that they knew who he was. That's pure abuse of power. The goal wasn't to get his name, it was to make him submit to their authority.

one cop came over to get my statement, and after, i asked if the guy would be okay. the cop is like, "i mean, he's clearly on something, he smells like alcohol and his dad says he's a meth addict. this neighborhood is horrible. this place sucks. this is the second time this month i've had to come out here."
i was like, you didn't need to tell me all that stuff about the guy, and i fucking live in this neighborhood lmfao. i just wanted to know if that screaming dude would be all right. you could just say "yes" or "i don't know."

That's not a lack of training. That's an utter lack of common sense when dealing with someone believed to be self-harmful. How helpful would it be to someone like that to be arrested? There are lots of places someone can believe is rock bottom, but adding an arrest to any of them would make things substantially worse. That's a lacking in the human decency department.

I had something similar. 2 police came sneaking up my driveway. I was told my half sister in Alaska had called saying I was suicidal. I had not seen or spoken to her in over 6 years and I lived in Oregon. I was detained and handcuffed, then the one cop called the VA hospital and said they reported I was in the hospital the day before and left against consent. Not sure what patient they spoke to but the VA does not give any information over the phone. I informed the cop that was false as I had the plane ticket in my shirt pocket that I had just returned from Orlando Florida 7 hours prior. No good. They took me to a hospital some 140 miles away, where I spent the weekend. In less than 2 minutes of a doctor entering the room he was signing my release. Same cops had to return and take me home. The one in the copilot seat was writing a novel about me wanting death by cop. I told him to remove that nonsense and he refused. Before taking me to the hospital I asked him to turn off the water to my travel trailer. Instead he disconnected the power. So everything in my refrigerator went bad while the frozen plumbing exploded. He had failed to lock the door as well.
That was 2007. My mother died in 2009 and all that nonsense by the half sister was to cut me out of her will. Well done. I didn't get a cent, not even things of my own left with my mother due my traveling.
In 2013 I permanently left the US and police and relatives have been of no further problem. That half sister, another half sister as well as a half brother are now all dead. The half brother the first to go ibn 2014 while I was mountain biking in the Andes of Ecuador. Both half sisters died in 2015 while I was living in Nicaragua. So all turned out very well. Greedy bastards. I have a completely tax free income exceeding $2.6 million a year along with my wife who has no desire at all to even visit the US, nor do I. I had lived alone and had no friends as 3 friends had died so no one to come to my assistance.
Sure glad I will never have to deal with Nazi US cops again.

Telling a family member about a call you went to and being vague is ok. Saying it was John Doe who lives on Main street was having a schizophrenic break is against HIPPA.
This applies to firefighters and EMS, I'm not sure if it applies to police, but it should.

The guy had too short an attention span to comprehend that the police weren't finished with him. He had expressed suicidal thoughts to his wife and had his father-in-law's high-blood-pressure medication. Care to guess what happens when somebody with normal BP takes medication that lowers your BP? The brain dies of oxygen starvation. The police weren't wrong for compelling his undivided attention; a suicidal person isn't competent to dictate whether they will engage with emergency personnel. The police were, however, wrong for taking him to jail instead of a hospital with a psychiatric unit.

I'll be happy when people stop throwing out "serve and protect". It's long been established in court they have no legal obligation to do either one. Time for people to STOP expecting this out of them and support ending qualified immunity.

That’s not true. My mom called one of these on me when I was in college and not answering my phone. The encounter took two minutes, was totally safe, and the police were cordial.

This seems almost as if the ex-wife wanted something on his record in regards to it being either known to be suicidal or an obstruction charge in order to gain something in the divorce, or later down the line. Why is he still looking for legal representation?! This seems pretty open and shut by the assertions in the video. He should be compensated for unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, and financial damages for that bubble head going and telling HIS BUSINESS to coworkers and any other random passerbys in earshot resulting in termination of employment. And slander! He did not break a law but she made him out to be a criminal for not wanting to (when he's not required to) sleep to her.
