Polaris 12/38 sprocket change upgrade and chain adjustment for faster Trailboss 325

  • This is a great mod for your slow Trailboss. If you have a 40+ sprocket gear on your axle and the stock 11 tooth on your output shaft then this is for you. Not happy with your top speed? This upgrade will help add 5-7 mph to your top speed but always remember at the end of the day this is still a Trailboss, not a sport quad.
    I checked and the stock setup for the 325 Trailboss is a 11/42 sprockets and a 520x80 chain. I did a 12/38t conversion with what I believe to not be a stock sized chain.
    Make sure to check my channel for other fixes and upgrades that I've done on this Trailboss. Thanks and best of luck to you.

      Yeah, I agree. Wasn’t a huge priority at the time, and it wasn’t giving me problems for the type of riding that we were doing. Thanks for your comment.

    Scrambler 500 carries a 13/36 good for even faster. And will fit. Hope you still have it. Nice ones are gaining value every time an expensive new one comes out.

    I just completed this same mod this week and I noticed a nice improvement on the top end....no noticeable loss at the low end either. Some of the reference charts I looked at showed and expected gain of about 16% which I would say seems about right. I use my trailboss for all kinds of utilitarian stuff on my 3 acres but it's also a hell of a lot of fun in the mud. I would definitely recommend adding a winch though....I did that this weekend too and it makes me so much more confident going into a big water hole knowing I'm not gonna be screwed if the 2x4 can't get to the other side!

      Todd Staples yeah, I know what you mean, but for a 2x4 it does well if you have bigger mud tires in the rear (which also increases too end) if you don't mind them ripping up the dirt/grass also. Mine climbed a trail of boulders up hill which impressed me quite a bit. If you compare this quad to others in its class, it rides and performs like a Cadillac, but will never win a 1/4 mile race because it gets up to its top end quick but loses its breath at around 40-45 mph unfortunately. Great quad for utilitarian and novice-intermediate trail riding, awesome for what you $ for. Great starter quad for anyone that's never ridden one before too. Thanks for your comment and enjoy that trailboss, i know I do.

      Dustin Elgan I absolutely agree....i bought mine for 400 bucks at a garage sale...cant beat that for a starter quad!

      Todd Staples I got a wench in mine, we build a plate for it to sit on under the front of it and I swear I will rip the front end off before it slows down or breaks

    Hey if you still have to bike can you do a video on the bearing in the rear sproket, mine is shot and my chain won't stay tight or on

      Spudnick MORTY sorry, sold it last week. Got my two rzr 800's stolen last week and I've been selling off all my atv stuff. No longer into the sport. I'm either hot or cold toward something, this experience killed it for me. Best of luck to you, thanks for your comment.

    Was there a considerable difference?

    • @dustinelgan6070

      SHANE STARK enough to warrant the labor and cost. I also added bigger diameter tires and that made a difference worth the upgrade. Otherwise it's a slow machine without those upgrades. If you want something faster in the price range of an older trailboss look at scrambler 500's, I have one of those also, much more sporty, but less utilitarian.

      Thank you. Have you do any other mods to your trail boss?

    • @dustinelgan6070
      @dustinelgan6070  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kane Richard not too much, see my exhaust mod/spring delete, added LED lights, got bigger tires on back. Besides that just maintenance and fix things as they break. It's a great reliable machine, I actually have it up for sale now, haven't posted on Craigslist yet, I bought two rzr 800 this month, making room for those. Best of luck with your trailboss.

      This got rid of the spring install from muffler, gasket, pipe. Still have a few springs holding the assembly to the frame.
