Superbooth 2023: Arturia - Microfreak Stellar - New Firmware Adds Sample Playback and Granular

- Edouard from Arturia unveiled the new firmware update for MicroFreak boasting a range of new features such as envelope snap mode, random key tracking, and 64 new presets for free. The firmware update also extends the preset memory from 300 to 500. The biggest surprise is the new sample engine, which allows users to use built-in samples and import their own samples into the machine through the utility. The sample engine has four modes, and the first mode enables users to browse through with the start position, play the sample in reverse and loop it, and two new granular engines further expand the Freaks capabilities.
Arturia has also released MicroFreak Stellar, which is a limited edition with new iconography and is designed to encourage sound exploration in a playful way.

Microfreak. The synth that keeps on giving. So refreshing to see that Arturia continue to invest in this piece of kit.
This also means the hardware was really well spec’d to begin with since they seem to have enough horsepower and memory to keep adding functionality 👍🏽

I would buy this device again just for the granular matrix-style vocal effect. I could listen to that all day! But I bought the microfreak a few years ago so I guess I’ll just install update. Thanks Arturia! Awesome products and sweet update!

Nice video (as per usual) • Big up Sonic State! I was lookin’ to cop a MicroFreak since it dropped, and was hoping for a new version to come out after almost grabbin’ the first one and later on the Vocoder Edition. But never got around to doing so. This Stellar is definitely something I would wanna get. Shoutouts to Arturia for the continuous firmware updates as well…..one of the better companies around!
kudos to Arturia for keeping up the updates and making the already great little synth grow in its capabilities. This update - even more so the granular feature than the sampling one - changes the whole workflow and the value of the synth in the current setup. For a few months I was looking at getting some small granular unit, maybe microgranny or 1010music lemon, but now not only this fixes my G.A.S, but also saves space and desktop resources for FREE. Thank you Arturia! ...PS: ever since they added the vocoder function, it makes me wonder if the Stereo Out capability is already built in, but not enabled yet - this would make it an instant miniUDOSuper6 😃

I wish they could do something about so the encoder parameter could be adjusted quicker. Example Elektron Analog Four you can push the encoder to move parameter quicker so there is less knob movement when I want to make bigger parameter changes.
These updates make the MICROFREAK the Tardis of synth engines.

Honestly if they looked like this when they first came out and had this capability I would have bought one right away. In the meantime I bought some other gear so Now I have to think about it.
