    It's a shame to see 747 numbers waning in the skies as airlines switch from 4 engine liners to 2, but I'm glad to see it will be such a marvelous aircraft stepping into their shoes.

    Cool plane, but with the current state of the world and airline industry, it seems like a whole lot of eggs in a basket that suddenly got much smaller. Makes me wonder if the cancellation/refounding of the NMA project last year might mean the 797 looks more like an A220 or CRJ than the 737's it was originally intended to replace. It also makes me wonder if Gulfstream might be seize the opportunity to tool up for the new commerical aviation market and provide smaller "right sized" alternatives to regional jets.

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Airbus won’t survive without EU backing that’s something to watch out for with the WTO ruling in Boeing’s favor.

    The eventual logical successor to the Airbus A340, A380 and Boeing 747-400. With a two engine design that provides less fuel consumption, flying further distances, as well as accommodating slightly more passengers then the current 777 series, this plane should do very well once the covid-19 pandemic is solved. Of course, Airbus will not sit by idly, and will probably come up with their own model to compete with the Boeing 777X, if that doesn't already exist in their A350 series.

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm curious, why doesn't the 777x have updated cockpit windows like newer planes? I'm thinking like the 787, a350, a330neo, a220, etc..

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nisomer, the reason is, it’s the same body design, if they made changes to the design, for example the cockpit windows, it then changes the shape, and the know aerodynamics. Under the FAA it would then not be a 777, but a new aircraft type. The same reason why the 737 has the same fuselage design, except minor tweaks to it. A330 and A330 Neo have the same window design, it’s just blacked out with a mask. 787, A350 and A220 are all new designers and didn’t have previous successors

    I was just wondering if you know how much larger is the 777x than the 777-300ER?

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diane Schroeder around 10 ft longer. There is a design that makes it even longer by another 10 ft or so than the 777-9, but there isn’t a market for the aircraft

    What if the wing tips do not extend? Does the First Officer then come out a hand crank?

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Parker, I have no idea. That would double a sight though to see the FO hand cranking them. I’m assuming they can manually be unlocked and dropped, sort of how landing gear can just be dropped by gravity

    • @yoyoyoyoshua
      @yoyoyoyoshua 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then it will go somewhere where it can fit with the wings extended. Honestly I'd be more worried about it not extending than not folding.

      @@yoyoyoyoshua That's exactly what he said tho, the wing tips would extend like the landing gear.

    Why incur the extra mechanical complexity, weight, and operational points of failure vs. fixed vertical winglets?

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lohphat, the wing tips aren’t meant to be winglets. The reason why Boeing decided to fold the wingtips is to it meets gate size at smaller airports. With wings folded it can fit into the same gates as the 787, meaning airlines that ordered the 787 would want to order the type since smaller airlines and airports will be able to hold it

    • @lohphat
      @lohphat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Delta One I know it was due to wingspan accommodation, but then just make it a fixed winglet and eliminate the mechanical points of failure.

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lohphat, if they would of made it a winglet, it would cause drag, making it not as fuel efficient

    • @lohphat
      @lohphat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Delta One But winglets are designed to reduce wingtip incipient drag.

    • @pnraviation520
      @pnraviation520  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lohphat they were designed. The new design which is raked wingtips or curved wingtips work even better. Such as the wings of the 747-8, 787 Family, 767 with Raked tips, 777 with raked tips. The 777x takes the end of the 787 wing and a blended curve up of the 777x wing, thanks to carbon fiber makes it more efficient than adding a winglet. Future of flying is blending the wing better, to have the least amount of drag, in which Boeing has done with their Wide Bodies
