I flew the 777-200ER about a decade ago as first officer until 2012, with + 19000 plus actual flying hours , I can tell you . This is not an airplane. Its a STARSHIP.
So from 2011 to 2012? How'd you rack up 19,000 hours? A normal work year is only about 2,100 hours and there are only 8,760 hours in a year so even if you flew 24/7 that would be a little over 2 years and at a standard work schedule that would be about 9 years. This feels like one of those confusing math problems in a test for math class they use to throw you off and make it impossible to get 100% on the test.

@Earth When you try to take an airliner and force a modification it can't handle you run into problems. You'll run into more when you try to make it to behave like it's predecessor. Reality of the max: You marketed a plane that was supposed to operate like a NG, but the aircraft was outdated design wise when they came out with the classic that faced a similar problem.
@Earth Reguardless of what they did, they should not have used an already outdated frame to modernize to compete. They would have been better off starting from the beginning. I understand using a proven design was their idea but that obviously it backfired. Instead of designing a new engine or new airframe they decided to use an engine that obviously wouldn't work then give it a new computer and slightly modified gear.
When I was a boy I was about to fly on one of the first 747 commercial flights out of London to New York. Unfortunately, a mistake by a flight attendant just before take-off cancelled the flight and we reached NYC with an old stretch DC8.😥

Even before any upgrades, this design has NEVER looked dated! I expect that this 3rd Generation (X), will be the same and look beautiful for years to come.
This triple 7x is just beautiful.perfect symetry.and for a jet almost 80 meters long that's no easy feat.don't get me wrong the 350-1000,&787 are super jets to but the nose & tail on the trip 7x looks much better in my opinion.I hope the airline industry can bounce back from this covid.

Boeing could really use Alan Mulally right about now, former CEO and program manager for the original 777. There’s a great Discovery documentary that features him and the story of how the 777 was developed. On a different note I wonder how feasible a twin engine 747 with new GE9x engines could be or if it would have any advantages over a 777-9x.
Cant wait. I want to eat, then sleep in a lay flat and wake up at my destination. Thanks Boeing, I've been dreaming about the triple 7 for a few weeks now.
@@TheJoeSwanon I guarantee that I did not create this name. With at least 20 family members that share this last name and a bunch of other unrelated folks, I am sure you have, even though it is a rare coïncidence
That's the last plane I worked on at Boeing... software I wrote is part of the IFLS (in flight library system). There's a certain amount of pride knowing you were good enough to be a small part of of the creation of such a magnificent machine. 😁
That avionics suite looks awesome. You can never have complicated stuff too intuitive, and it doesn't get much more intuitive than a touchscreen, keyboard and mouse.
America has it's faults but they've always been the global leader in aircraft design even today. All the major breakthroughs in stealth technology, many of the breakthroughs in jet technology, and many of the speed records just to name a few of the things America brought to the world stage. Despite China's insistance they're going to be America's competitor they have to copy almost all of their aeronautic/aerospace technology from the US and Russia (who in turn have had to copy the US as well) just to try and close the gap between themselves and the rest of the world. Even European nations and Japan, who are often innovators themselves, often work with the US, license technology, and/or buy major components from the US.
I recently flew on the A380 to France. One thing I appreciated is the fact that all passengers could stand up straight under the upper baggage storage without crouching down.
One thing he didn't mentioned is that the 777 was Boeing's first aircraft to be designed completely digitally--all previous airplanes were based on paper blueprint drawings.
It was the first aircraft they designed since the early 80s, and the first real widebody (the 767 has two aisles, but is not that wide). It was a new construction, not a usage of old parts like the 707 fuselage which still lives on in the 757 and the 737.
Wow! Still enjoying your videos. What a good job you do at covering literally everything with clarity! On this one you seem particularly enthusiastic which is fun, we can hear it in your voice. Question: since we all love the 747 so much, could they not put GE's huge engine x 2 on it? I thought they were phasing out the 747 because it was a 4 engine plane. Thanks again and cheers!
If any airline wants to give me a 747 I'll be glad to take one. The 777 has been a workhorse for the industry. I can't wait to see this beauty in action.
It's a shame they will now be delayed at least two years because of a failure during testing Dec 2020 with pitch up and down similar to the MAX. Unstable using a MCAS like system maybe. Boing is the king of careless these days.
This is almost an advertisement for the 777X. Unfortunately for it Boeing have again messed up on their project time lines and the pandemic has killed aviation demand. There is currently very little demand for the 777X with airlines. I hope it is successful but I would say the jury is definitely out on that.
I do love the 777, but I don't want to call it the king yet. In concept, the 777-9X is a great design but it needs to proof itself first. Ask me again in 2030. I'm afraid the markets will continue to become smaller for this size of an airplane and it could become the A380 flop of the year 2035. But, again a huge 777 fan here. I started following aviation in 1994 on the 777's first flight and have followed it's entire history and I'm still fascinated by it. (777-8 flop already... 777-300ER, now we're talking! Doesn't get any sexier than that).
The problem with the 747 and A380 in the modern era isn’t their enormous capacity, it’s the fact they use 4 engines, which obviously uses way more fuel than twin engine air liners. The Triple 7x will be a solution to this problem while also being able to serve routes the older triple 7’s were already flying.
@@theread3480 There are still other ,,problems'' with the 380. The wings are one, it's designed for 650 t MTOW, but the -800 has only 560. Because of the needed size (850 sqm) it's aspect ratio (7.8) is too low to be optimal, it should have had 90 m of wing span instead of 80, which costs 10 % of fuel efficiency alone. The -800 should have been never launched with these wings, they should have brought this aircraft as a - 900 or as a -800 with proper, smaller wings for it. The -800 is in this case a shrink (compared to how the structure was designed for), and shrinks are usually inferior in competition.
Point well taken! Rumor is, that the 777-9 has to be filled with more then 80% of it's max. capacity, what is around 330 passengers, to break even and it has to be full to reach the advertised fuel mileage per seat. It will be attractive for the largest airports, but the rest is going point to point and there the 787 or A350 are a superior solutions. Either there will be a surge in air travel or the 777X is going to be a relict like the A380.
Great The "Classic" Yokes. No "Nintendo/X-Box style" Joysticks! Extremely Well that fuselage is Still All Metal! Carbon fiber and composites, Cannot Withstand bolts of Lightning. Metal Fuselages Dissipate Lightning bolts Back to the surrounding atmosphere.

Your detail is appreciated. I am very impressed with the professionalism of this TH-cam journalism. The world needs 2 extremely advanced and viable airliner manufacturers. You don’t become a “ king “ overnight , the 777X has to earn its crown , and nothing these days is guaranteed .

I was unable to attend the next day due to a previous engagement, and had to watch the maiden flight via TH-cam live stream, which was really disappointing considering I live in the area. Since then, I have seen either prototype 1 or 2 just after takeoff. Thanks for putting this video together!
Yeah i don’t know about this plane considering the fact that it has already dealt with issues of body structure test. Not so sure. The last thing they need. We can’t afford anymore air desaster in the skies🤞🏿
The plane was supposed to withstand 150% of the maximum load it was designed for, and during normal operation it'll experience no more than about 50% of that maximum load. During the test, the plane failed at 148% the maximum design load. That's 99% of the test loads, so because of the only 1% difference, the failure was deemed tolerable, and the plane passed. For reference, the A380's wings broke at just 145% during its tests, and the current flying A380s are identical, because they didn't change a thing to get it certified. I'd say the 777X did good enough, considering it did better than the A380 that no one complains about.

@@arthas640 You clearly misunderstood him. It had been a decade since he flew the 777. He's not saying he gained the 19,000 hours from 2011-12. Obviously that's impossible. He clearly had many years flying airliners.
The 777 is honestly the most sexy airliner ever. Wide body, huge engines, even the name. Perfection.
The Queen of the Skies 747 finally has a worthy successor to the thrown. Long live the King 777!
747 will always be the king. I have flown in both extensively over the pacific. No question, 747
I agree with you
I’ve been on a 77W many times on transpacific flights between San Francisco and Manila. It is a really great plane.
True but it’s not as good as A380 flown both
Daniel Lantos Yes, the A380 is wonderful. It’s my favorite plane to fly on.
@@daniellantos26 a380 was good but honestly i enjoyed being on the 777 more
The A380 now makes all kinds of weird noises, what a disaster
"Weird noises" being a disaster? Makes no sense
The engines on the 777x, the ge9x, broke the world record as the most powerful jet engine in the world
Very comprehensive review of the 777 in all its former and current iterations. Enjoyed it!
Having similar cockpits on 777X and 787 will be very convenient for all airlines
Just more convenient for the pilots, the 777 and 787 already had a shared type rating, which is all the airlines care about.
Awesome. This will be the world's flagship airliner. Let's hope we get over this wretched pandemic before too long.
Probably the best aviation news channel I've watched. Mystical symbology made me smile. Half hour and I didn't get bored or feel like you were just regurgitating press articles. Breddy interdasting.
Those hinged winglets are amazing. DNK about that.
Am I the only one who thinks that this will go on to be the Queen of the skies incarnate? There can only ever be one queen of the skies, of course, but I do have a feeling that these birds will go on to be quite popular, and will be in the skies for a good long time. I'd love to fly on both. Haven't flown on a widebody yet!
I’m looking forward to this plane, but I really hope Boeing doesn’t screw this up!
Bring Alan Mullaly back!
In modern Oregon fashion airlines would riot wreck and torch the Seatlle plant when Boeing F.cks this up .
Just give them time.
I would have been so pissed you got screwed over for a dc8 😔
I still hold a place in my heart for my “main girl” the 727 it’s the first aircraft I ever went and worked. The 777 is a remarkable design and this will definitely place Boeing in the stratosphere now, it’s amazing
If it’s Boeing, I ain’t going..!
@@SKYLANDBAK Ok cool
Man I can’t wait to see the Beautiful Big bird in the Emirates 🇦🇪 Livery 😍
It's taking a long time for Boeing to launch this 777X... Is this X in Roman numeral meaning how many years we still have to wait?
Thanks for making this hard days a little bit better with the videos!!! Greetings from Mexico.
Well, I've seen her fly, a few times. The 777x will blow your mind. You can't understand what a game changer this thing is until you see for first time. The new "Empress of the Sky" in '25!
The weight of the 777x is same as the 77W so it doesn’t have restrictions on airports it can operate out of like the a380. (Runway, taxiway, etc etc).
Who doesn't love a sexy 777? She's a proper beauty, I love the raked wing design, her fold up wing tips and truly monstrously epic GE-9X engines....... I can't wait to hear these engines at an airport near me in the not too distant future.......
Even before any upgrades, this design has NEVER looked dated! I expect that this 3rd Generation (X), will be the same and look beautiful for years to come.
Oh, that’s a huge video about this plane. Awesome)
The narrator cracks me up. Keep him!
What a crazy comprehensive and informative overview of the 3rd Generation triple sevens. Awesome
Skyship the wait was worth it,
Excellent video showing the new King in all it's Glory.
I have flown on 777 and 787. They’re big and they pack people in like sardines. The Asian airlines give you more room and provide excellent and courteous service. ✈️
Thankyou! oh and let’s not forget the first triple seven engine was tested on a plane known as the city of Everett or the first 747!
The 747 is not dead, she is still being built as freighters......................Long live the Queen of the skys.
747-8: im the king 777x: move out 747-8: you were not supposed to do that
I Love those two Gigantic turbo-fans of the triple7, I think those are the biggest in aviation !
Thanks Boeing, I've been dreaming about the triple 7 for a few weeks now.
the Queen will be greatly loved and missed. long live the King 🤴
Lol "the queen" yes a victorian queen maybe. The King is the A350.
This plane moves at unbelievable speed. They also tear down and rebuild them after short flight hours. I want to fly the 1,000 before I go home!
Great detailed video. I love your passion for jetliners, it comes through in your videos.
I swear I’ve seen a last name similar to yours 😂
@@TheJoeSwanon I guarantee that I did not create this name. With at least 20 family members that share this last name and a bunch of other unrelated folks, I am sure you have, even though it is a rare coïncidence
That's the last plane I worked on at Boeing... software I wrote is part of the IFLS (in flight library system). There's a certain amount of pride knowing you were good enough to be a small part of of the creation of such a magnificent machine. 😁
hopefully its nothing like the 737MAX ...
F IN THE CHAT FOR THE 4 ENGINE PLANES

F , the 747-2 will always be my favorite
747SP, all the power of a 747, but it soooo cute!
F
nitehawk86 They called the 747 SP the Pocket Rocket! It had awesome performance for such a large plane.
I think the nose and the cockpit windsheild style of the B777 is so SEXY looking ! It kind of reminds of the DC-10/MD-11.
The 777 is just grow on me 💘
That avionics suite looks awesome. You can never have complicated stuff too intuitive, and it doesn't get much more intuitive than a touchscreen, keyboard and mouse.
Great explanation of how US airliners industry is always in foward motion. Great historic moment to reestablish a leading edge. Great Job!!
The 380 is (together with the 350) relatively silent in the cabin. The 777-300 ER is popular on market, but it's way louder. I flew all three of them.
One thing he didn't mentioned is that the 777 was Boeing's first aircraft to be designed completely digitally--all previous airplanes were based on paper blueprint drawings.
Please don't be so stupid. You're actually very embarrassing.
@@龙源探索 he's right
It was the first aircraft they designed since the early 80s, and the first real widebody (the 767 has two aisles, but is not that wide). It was a new construction, not a usage of old parts like the 707 fuselage which still lives on in the 757 and the 737.
Seven paces from one side of the cabin to the other. THAT'S pretty damn big !
I think GE's test planes were able to fly with only 2 GE90-115B's some time ago...
If any airline wants to give me a 747 I'll be glad to take one. The 777 has been a workhorse for the industry. I can't wait to see this beauty in action.
As always, another excellent presentation. Concise facts and comparisons, great video content and a little humor mixed in. Well done!
The lightweight frequency and Turnage of your aluminum extremely strong with push paint and thrust to avoid magnetic attachment
That's a real Beaut right there ..One of the best Aircraft family out there 🔥
It's a shame they will now be delayed at least two years because of a failure during testing Dec 2020 with pitch up and down similar to the MAX.
The latest GE engine, even moreso than previous jet engines, boggles my mind in so numerous ways! Its reliability notwithstanding. It's incredulous.
You do such a good job, I think you were on hiatus I kept looking for new vids. I hope you get more subs! Thanks
This aircraft will be the most beautiful thing on the sky !!!!!!!👏👏👏👏. I can’t wait to see the first in service!!!!!!!
0:44 It looks like the face of the plane is just following you lol
maybe boing would sell more planes if they made a new model with a new model number instead a 777X
Good luck saving fuel and having a quiet cabin. I can see from your comments you haven't flown a A350. Don't compare passenger comfort with purist delights.
Your detail is appreciated. I am very impressed with the professionalism of this TH-cam journalism. The world needs 2 extremely advanced and viable airliner manufacturers. Competition keeps the technology growing. I think it will be years before the Chinese join the top level. Although I never underestimate their ability to steal technology and reverse engineer things.
Love Sky’s storytelling magic. 💛🙏🏼
Glen M. Danielsen it’s amazing how good computer generated voices are these days .

Cartoonman154 . The “ queen of the skies “ will still be plying the airways in 20 yrs time , ok in small numbers . The 777X hasn’t even entered service yet and is not guaranteed to be a success story at all . If it was the “ King “ , how come airlines are deferring deliveries and reviewing the orders . You don’t become a “ king “ overnight , the 777X has to earn its crown , and nothing these days is guaranteed .
I was there the day before the maiden flight in January. They scrubbed it due to high winds. I was unable to attend the next day due to a previous engagement, and had to watch the maiden flight via TH-cam live stream, which was really disappointing considering I live in the area. Since then, I have seen either prototype 1 or 2 just after takeoff. Thanks for putting this video together!
Superb episode! One of your best!
747, the type I first flew on ever; 777X, the type I look forward to flying on next
@@RazvanMaioru you would have to put the 777X into a nosedive in the middle of a category 5 hurricane for it to reach that stress
